2 Background No Child Left Behind Act Offers parents whose children attend certain schools access free tutorial assistance through what is known as Supplemental Educational Services (SES). California students attending schools in Program Improvement Year 2 or higher are eligible for these services.
3 Parents select from 66 state-approved vendors. LAUSD Beyond The Bell Tutoring approved for 2 years. 90,000 applications for 35,000 spaces. Students selected according to academic priority, e.g. Far Below Basic in 3 rd grade reading, 6 th grade math, 9 th grade algebra.
4 Vision Every Child will receive high quality tutorial assistance that supports individualized student achievement in a safe and convenient learning environment
5 Mission The mission of LAUSD Beyond the Bell Tutoring is to provide high quality specially designed tutorial instruction, taught by highly qualified and specially trained teachers, that advances learning and achievement in a well supervised after school environment. Motto
6 Enrollment Process Parents receive 2 Letters Welcome 1 st Letter LAUSD BTB Tutoring their provider. Call BTB if contact information is incorrect. 2 nd Letter Who child s tutor is. Tutor will contact parent to arrange sessions. Return Student Enrollment forms to Tutor.
7 Tutor contacts parent : Assessment plan Return Student Registration Form needs to tutor. HS Parents also return computer contract. once Student Learning Plan (SLP) is ready, parent must come in to sign on or before date that tutoring services can begin. Initial Contact by Tutor Record Contact on Parent Contact Log
8 Next Steps: Registration is Returned Teacher Tutor verifies parent has: Written name of school student attends. Indicated what elementary or middle student is to do at the end of each tutoring session. Signed and dated application. Teacher Tutor: Adds tutor s name to application. Faxes application to: or scans it and s to: tutor@lausd.net Mails original via school mail to: 29 th Floor Beaudry.
9 Initial Assessment Procedures You will receive with student log in & password. Complete at least one week before start of scheduled session. Should take no more than 20 to 30 minutes. Can be done before, during, or after school. At time of assessment, log on to:
10 The Screen will appear Reading Grades 3 to 12 Reading Grades K to 2 Math All Grades
11 Select Icon & Student Log Opens Teacher can help student log on. If student selects wrong assessment, user name and password will not work. When student finishes record score. score back on original with student log in.
12 Student Learning Plan BTBT gets Registration and Assessment BTBT Generates Student Learning Plan (SLP) Tutor & Parent Meet to Sign Student Learning Plan on or Before 1 st Session
13 Student Learning Plan Conference Parent & Tutor agree how Monthly Log will be signed. Elementary Parent must sign each month. Secondary parent can allow student to sign & receive copy.
14 Daily Tutoring Log Daily Log submitted with timesheet each month. One log for each student. Summarizes instructional content. Has exact start/end times of session. DUE: Last tutoring day of the month.
15 Teacher tutor: Preliminary Tutoring Schedule Lists schedule for tutoring total 30 hours. Identifies tutoring location. Obtains principal s signature. Submits to Beyond the Bell Tutoring.
16 Tutoring Sessions Begin 15 minutes after dismissal. Last 90 minutes. Follow BTB Tutoring curriculum. List instructional content and start/end times on Daily Tutoring Log.
17 Snack Students entitled to snack on days attended. Snacks distributed by after school program personnel immediately after school. Students should pick up snack and go immediately to tutoring session. If no after school program at site or issues occur, contact : Bill Baker
18 Student Attendance Matters Students only benefit if there. Tutor only gets paid if students come. Tutor contacts parent whenever student misses. Tutor needs to push good attendance. Lose/Lose/Lose
19 Can a Session be made up? Tutor Absent Must offer make up session. One-on-one arranged student absence May offer make-up session Student in class with other students Only with BTBT Approval 3 Scenarios
20 Make up Sessions Tutor/parents agree on make up date or dates. Options: Extra session or add 30 minutes to 3 sessions. Notify BTB Tutoring of revised schedule.
21 Dropping Students Student absent Tutor contacts parent Parent refuses further service Tutor unable to contact parent 3 unique attempts 2 nd Consecutive absence 1. Document on parent contact log. 2. Notify BTB Tutoring. 3. Send Contact log/daily tutoring log to BTB Tutoring.
22 Emergency Teacher-Tutor Absence--3 Calls Call # 1: Parent Advise parent of cancelation. Offer make up session. Tell parent to call school and request school staff tell child what to do at dismissal. Record call on parent contact log Call # 2: School Advise that you will be absent from school and tutoring. Ask staff to notify students of your absence. Advise if parents have given direction if tutor is absent.
23 Call # 3: Call or Bill Baker Provide the following information: Name, school site, names/grades of students. Content of communication with parents from call # 1. Advise if unable to reach parents. Exception Site more than one instructors teaching level/schedule. Tutors should make prearrangement to cover. When making required calls advise parent, school, and affected teacher of change for that day.

27 One additional half hour Automatic half hour of pay for each student for which your submit: Student Assessment Score. Completed registration form. Student Learning Plan signed by parent. You are eligible for another automatic half hour for each student who: has a Post Assessment score. Completes 30 hours of instruction.
28 Safety and Security Be professional many 1-on-1 assignments. Make sure: Your principal knows times and locations. You adhere to LAUSD Code of Conduct with Students. You conduct sessions in safe area. Staff Relations urges that you tutor in open areas. You wear BTB Tutoring ID Badge.
29 Parents receive 4 progress reports: BTB Form 5 th and 15 th day. City Span generated by teacher 10 th and 20 th day. Online training available. Progress Reports
30 Incident & Complaint Reporting If accident or incident occurs during tutoring session, notify site administrator and BTB Tutoring immediately. Complete Incident Report Form. If complaint received, use Incident Report Form to describe resolution.
31 Curriculum Inventory Control Keep track of all curriculum materials issued. Record number of items issued, items consumed, and items returned unused. Make sure that any additional materials provided are recorded.
32 End of Session Procedures At end of session, teacher tutors will return: Curriculum materials. Unused student books. Procedures & Policy Handbook. Pencil Box. Parent Contact Logs. High School Only Parental Receipt for Computer. Any lap book computers not issued to students. Flash drive with supplemental reading materials.
