1 Windsurf Instructor Basic Traineeship Sydney Australia or Vassiliki Greece 6 weeks The Windsurf Instructor Basic Traineeship leads to qualification as an RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor. The course is designed to allow maximum time for developing personal windsurfing skills on the water and is suitable for beginners and early intermediates. The first two weeks provide intensive foundation training, including personal performance coaching. The next two weeks are the core of the skill-building programme. You windsurf every day under the guidance of expert coaches, who guarantee to improve your performance on the water. Finally you enter two weeks of instructor training, focusing on the coaching techniques needed to inspire beginners. To gain the instructor qualification you will need to demonstrate RYA Intermediate windsurfing ability (non planing), good communication skills, an understanding of RYA training, in-depth theory knowledge, group management ability, safety awareness and an effective coaching style.

4 Start Windsurfing Week 1 Start Windsurfing is the first course in the RYA National Windsurfing Scheme. All you need is a degree of water confidence to quickly learn the basics of windsurfing such as turning the board around, sailing wherever you choose and getting back to shore. Launching & landing Starting, turning around, & stopping Steering & stance Sailing upwind & tacking Sailing downwind & gybing Self rescue Weather forecasts, tidal theory Intermediate Windsurfing Week 2 Intermediate Windsurfing is split into two sections, non planing & planing. The course aims to build confidence in stronger winds and help rapid skill progression in planing techniques. The Fastfwd coaching formula is introduced to improve acceleration, harness technique & control while sailing fast in the footstraps. 5 Advanced Windsurfing Week 3 The Advanced Windsurfing course aims to further improve planing techniques and introduce other high wind skills such as the planing carve gybe and the water start. 6 RYA First Aid Week 4 The RYA First Aid Course provides a working knowledge of first aid procedures for injuries and illness that may be experienced when afloat in small boats and on windsurfers. 7 Windsurfing Instructor Preparation Week Week 5 This week provides an opportunity to get some hands on experience instructing. You will practice running theory classes and practical sessions as well as receiving some general training in teaching, coaching and presentation techniques. In addition there is plenty of time to practice your windsurfing skills on the water with the assistance of expert instruction so you are ready for the RYA instructor course and assessment. 8 RYA Windsurfing Instructor Assessment Week Week 6 This course is an intensive period of training and assessment designed to prepare students for work as an RYA windsurfing instructor. The course combines on water practical training techniques with shore sessions on using a windsurfing simulator and teaching theory.
