2 Introduction This course provides you with the essential qualifications needed to enter the superyacht industry as deck crew. As a participant in this course you are entitled to free access to the Flying Fish online recruitment service which includes free attendance at our superyacht crew recruitment days in Antibes France. Working as a deck crew on a superyacht can be an exciting, well paid, job leading to travel and adventure opportunities worldwide. For some it can be the beginning of a well paid professional career leading to a job as first mate or captain of a magnificent yacht. Are you planning to become a professional yacht captain? If you are planning a career in yachting and have aspirations of becoming a superyacht captain you should consider a Yachtmaster/Master of Yachts Pro or Ocean Traineeship with Flying Fish. STCW95 Superyacht Deck Crew Training is split into 3 parts. 1. RYA Competent Crew - you need to know the basics of sailing and seamanship so you can carry out your daily tasks on deck. In essence deck crew need some salt in their veins. This five-day live aboard course introduces you to sailing in sheltered waters and takes you to the level required to be a useful member of the crew on a yacht. 2. RYA Powerboat Level 2 is a legal requirement to drive the yacht's tenders which is a primary function of deck crew. This two-day course provides intensive training in the practical skills and theory knowledge needed by the small boat driver. 3. STCW 95 Basic Safety Training - a mandatory safety qualification for all crew on superyachts and other vessels over 24 metres. There are four elements to this five-day shore based course. - STCW 95 Elementary First Aid - STCW 95 Personal Survival Techniques - STCW 95 Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities - STCW 95 Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting

3 RYA/YA Competent Crew Week 5 days Course introduction and outcomes This is a live aboard course on board one of our Beneteau 40.7 training yachts. The week will be broken into short passages and skills and drills in an around Sydney harbour and Pittwater. It may also include a short coastal passage North or South along the NSW coast. You will learn the skills of the competent yacht crew. This will include understanding how to steer and trim the sails on all points as well as managing the safety and seamanship issues on board. By the end of the week you will be a confident crew member ready to join a crew on a short passage. Pre-requisites No experience necessary. Qualifications RYA/YA Competent Crew.

4 Sample course programme/ itinerary NB The actual programme and route may differ due to weather and other constraints. Day 1 Monday AM Yacht brief, use of clutches and winches, engine checks, victuals (food, fuel, wa ter, gas). personal safety, basic sail handling, (hoisting, trimming, reefing, dropping) PM Points of sail brief, upwind and downwind sailing exercises. Day 2 Tuesday AM General safety brief, berthing/unberthing, ropework. Crew safety drills (MOB, evacuation, reefing) PM Shake down passage. (Pittwater or Port Hacking) Basic pilotage into port. Day 3 Wednesday AM Sailing exercises for wind awareness PM Short passage. Intro to coastal navigation. Day 4 Thursday AM Boat handling drills (MOB, reefing, buoys under sail) PM Short passage to Sydney Basic navigation exercises (3 pt fix) Day 5 Friday AM Basic rules of the road. Skills and drills. PM Arrive MHYC -Full boat clean down, refuel/gas and water. Course debrief

5 RYA/YA National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 2 days Course introduction and outcome The RYA National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 is the benchmark qualification for driving small powerboats and RIB s (Rigid Inflatable Boats). It is important for anyone planning to work professionally in the superyacht industry as they will be required to drive the tenders and support craft on board the yacht. The course includes safe handling techniques, close quarter handling, man over board recovery, coming alongside, mooring and anchoring. Sydney Harbour provides an ideal training ground with busy challenging waterways in which to develop your power boating skills. If you are completing YM/MOY part 2 in the UK you will do the powerboat course either on the Solent or at our centre in Vassiliki Greece. Pre-requisites None Qualifications awarded RYA National Powerboat Certificate level 2 YA National Powerboat Certificate if required. NSW Maritime Authority powerboat license. Powerboat drivers in New South Wales are legally required to hold a power boat license. 6 STCW95 Basic Safety Training in Sydney 5 days -Mon to Fri Course introduction and outcome The International Maritime Organization (IMO) lays down standards for the training and certification of watch keepers known as STCW95. STCW 95 Basic Safety Training is a mandatory IMO entry level safety course for anyone who wishes to work on a super yacht in any capacity. Under the MCA large yacht code superyachts are considered to be anything greater than 24m in length. On successful completion of the training you will be issued with internationally recognised, STCW95 compliant certification. You will leave the course with a good understanding of safety and emergency procedures. You will be familiar with rescue and evacuation. You will have practised crisis scenarios, handled fire fighting equipment and launched a life raft. You will have a thorough understanding of how to perform as a professional mariner. 8 How to get to Middle Harbour Yacht Club By public transport From City: Catch a bus from Wynyard bus station to Spit Bridge, Mosman (30 mins). Or catch a ferry from Circular Quay to Manly (30 mins) then catch a bus see below. By public transport from Manly: Catch the 144 or 143 bus from Manly Wharf to Spit Bridge, Mosman (20 mins). Parking: Limited metered parking is available at Middle Harbour Yacht Club. There is also a large public car park across the road. There are excellent facilities at Middle Harbour Yacht Club Including the Sand Bar next to the beach, for coffee and snacks and the Seabreeze bistro and licensed bar with stunning views overlooking the marina. Seabreeze has a generous menu, and is open for lunch Wed to Sun and dinner Thurs to Sat. There are also excellent conference rooms and newly refurbished showers and restrooms.
