1 25 January 2016 Dear Parent / Carer Subject: Work Experience for Year 12 Students The School has decided to provide an opportunity for Year 12 to undertake a short period of Work Experience. This year we have allocated the period Monday 4 July to Friday 8 July 2016 inclusive for this event. This opportunity gives students an understanding of the world of work and gives an effective experience to use in their University, Apprenticeships or work applications. All Year 12 Students are encouraged to organise their own placement related to their chosen career or university course. Students have been given details in school by the Work Related Learning Department and parents are asked to note the following: i) We would like parents to organise a placement for their Son/Daughter. However, you should be aware that the school cannot allow placements to be arranged for those businesses shown on the prohibited placements list (attached). ii) iii) (iv) For the placement, the employer offering the work must fill in the Own Placement form (enclosed) and the student must return this with the application form. Employers offering work experience must have Employer s Liability insurance cover for the student and their premises must conform to current Health and Safety regulations. The Company should also have a Health and Safety Policy. Placements must be local because pre-visits and visits during the placement may have to be made by a member of staff. For all school placements in healthcare settings OR where students will be working with preschool children in a nursery/crèche, pupils must have received two doses of the MMR vaccine. This is to provide protection for the students and to the vulnerable population that they may meet. It is advisable that this be done at least four weeks prior to the placement so that their GP can complete any outstanding vaccinations. All Parents are asked to sign and return the attached form and the own placement form by Monday 7 March. Any student who has not returned all forms required of them, will not be able to do work experience and will therefore be in school for the Work Experience week. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school, ext 232. Yours sincerely Dr. H.K.Malhi Assistant Headteacher / Work Related Learning Co-ordinator Enc: Aims and Objectives of Work Experience, Prohibited placement list, Work experience form, Own Placement Form.
