1 What is an insect Insects are very small animals that compete with foods. Insects are invertebrates. They have no backbones. Most insects walk, fly and jump. Insect need water, air and food to live.

2 Most insects have five basic physical characteristics: Insects have what we call an exoskeleton or a hard, shell-like covering on the outside of its body. Insect have three main body parts: head, thorax and abdomen. Insect have a pair of antenna on top of their head Insects have three pairs of legs. They use the leg for walking, but sometimes an insect may have a pair of legs that are specially designed for jumping. And insects have wings. Some insects are beneficial to people Some insects are harmful
