1 FastNetSecurity SpamGuard Spam Filter How-To Using your web browser, log on to Tip: Add a bookmark to this page for easy access! Login credentials will incorporate your existing company address, and the password will be provided to you by FastNetSecurity.
2 Once logged in, you'll notice several options available to you: 1. A general overview of current spam volume over 7 days 2. The ability to view messages caught in the filter 3. Preference options 4. Reporting options 5. Spam handling preferences 6. notification preferences 7. Whitelist and Blacklist preferences 8. Message Queue 9. Junk mail quarantine (same as #2)
3 First and foremost, please change your SpamGuard access password. This can be found under the menu option 'Preferences' (step #3) and is located at the bottom of the 'Set Your Preferences' page. Please choose a secure password that includes letters and numbers. Make sure to take note of your new SpamGuard.
4 Checking your Junk Mail Quarantine (step #2) will allow you to see any messages caught in the spam filter. To release a message from the filter, mark the check box to the left of the message in question, and select the 'RELEASE' option. You can remove more than one message at a time by choosing multiple check boxes. The Preferences page (step #3) will contain options to change your access password, adjust aggressiveness of Spam Handling, modify Whitelists and Blacklists (permanently approved or blocked addresses), and other reporting and notification options.
5 Choosing the Reports button (step #4) will allow you to generate a graphical report of spam filtration over the time period you've selected Spam Handling Preferences (step #5) allows you to easily adjust how aggressive the GFI Mail Essentials spam filter will run. FastNet Security recommends a value of High, but if you notice that legitimate s are often getting blocked, the value of aggressiveness can be reduced.
6 notification preferences (step #6) will allow you to modify how often you'll receive Spam filter reports (digests), and to what address you'll receive them. Be default, your standard company address will be the address the spam filter reports are being sent to. Note: Show Advanced Options allows you to enable a frequency of up to 3 spam filter digests per day, at a specific time of day of your choosing. Manage your Whitelists (step #7) allows you to manually enter approved senders. You can either add a specific address, or add an entire domain to your whitelist. These addresses will always be allowed into your Inbox. FastNet can help you manage this list.
7 Manage your Blacklists (step #7) allows you to manually enter addresses or domains you wish to block completely. These addresses will always be flagged as junk. FastNet can help you manage this list. If at any time the Exchange server is unable to process your , the Mail Queue as listed in step #8, will allow you to see any messages waiting to be delivered to the Exchange Server.
8 Checking your Junk Mail Quarantine (step #9) will allow you to see any messages caught in the spam filter. This is also the same method as step #2 describes to check your Spam Quarantine. To release a message from the filter, mark the check box to the left of the message in question, and select the 'RELEASE' option. You can remove more than one message at a time by choosing multiple check boxes. FastNetSecurity has configured the spam filter to use the following rules: Aggressiveness of the Spam filter is set to High be default. Delivery of detected spam messages are redirected to your Junk Mail Quarantine. **SPAM** is added to the subject line of every detected spam. A one-click Add To My Whitelist link is in the body of every detected spam. Messages containing viruses are automatically hidden. Questions or concerns?
