1 GREATER LEANDER FFA PROJECT SHOW LIVESTOCK RULES AND REGULATIONS January 1-2, ELIGIBILITY: The Livestock Show is open to all bona fide members of a FFA Chapter (including Jr. FFA) in the Leander ISD and select area FFA Chapters upon invitation by the Board of Directors provided care for their animals is under the direct supervision of an Agriculture Science Teacher. 2. SUBSTITUTION RULES: All entries must be exhibited by their owners except in the following situations: a. When an exhibitor has more than one entry in one class, another FFA member may show one of the entries, but the other exhibitor must be eligible to show in the GLFFAPS Livestock Show. b. When an exhibitor cannot be present to show his/her animal, a request for a substitute exhibitor must be submitted in written form no later than 2 hours prior to the division show time to be reviewed and approved by the Livestock Committee Chairperson. 3. TIME OF ENTRIES: All entries must be submitted (including payment) to the GLFFAPS by January 1, GLFFA reserves the right to verify eligibility with Agriculture Science Teachers and County Agents, and to verify that the project is supervised by the Ag Science Teacher or County Agent. Late Entries will be accepted January 2, 2016 by 8:00 am. Total late entry fee will be $30 per entry. 4. FEES: All Livestock Entry Fees will be $20 per entry. No additional fees will be charged for Showmanship. Late Entry Fee will be $30 per entry. 5. REFUNDS: No refunds will be made under any circumstances. 6. VALIDATION: Animal entries for the GLFFAPS Livestock Show must have been validated/tagged for identification. In the event that a livestock entry does not have a tag, the Greater Leander FFA Project Show reserves the right to seek verification that the animal project has been supervised by the Agriculture Science Teacher or County Agent. 7. RABBIT DIVISION RULES: Meat Rabbits: a. Each exhibitor can enter one (1) pen of meat rabbits b. Each pen shall consist of 3 animals. Each animal shall weigh between 3lbs. and 5 lbs. with a 2 oz. tolerance per rabbit. All rabbits shall be of the same breed in the pen.

2 c. A show official appointed by the show Superintendent will sift all rabbits as they enter the show. Exhibitors will be allowed to bring one alternate rabbit into the barn at check-in. If a rabbit is sifted, the alternate rabbit may be substituted at that time. Once the exhibitor leaves the check-in area with the entry, no other rabbits may be substituted. d. Disqualifying attributes: i. Sore hock ii. Malocclusion iii. Broken teeth iv. Broken nails v. Sickness vi. Ear mites e. All show rabbits will be released back to the exhibitor and must be removed from the Show Grounds during designated release times. f. If rabbits are sifted, they will still be eligible for the breeding show. Breeder Rabbits a. Rabbits will be judged and ranked by the show official that has been appointed by the show Superintendent. b. All rabbits, regardless of breed, will be allowed to show as long as they are in good health. 8. BROILER RULES: a. There will not be a weight limit for any poultry exhibited. b. Exhibitors are not required to have individual health papers for poultry exhibits. c. All broiler orders must be placed through the Greater Leander Project Show. Broilers will be ordered in increments of 25. d. Family members may show out of a group of birds ordered by the individual family members. e. There will be one class of cockerel broilers and one class of pullet broilers. f. Broilers will be ordered as straight runs. g. Exhibitors will be allowed to bring one alternate bird into the barn at check-in. If a bird is sifted, the alternate bird may be substituted at that time. Once the exhibitor leaves the check in area with the entry, no other birds may be substituted. h. Only exhibitors or eligible substitutes will be allowed in the show ring at the time of judging to show their poultry exhibits. i. Deceased Birds: If birds expire after check-in and prior to judging, the birds will be evaluated prior to the start of the show by the judge and will not be allowed into the ring. If birds expire during judging, the bird will remain in the show until the class is complete. All deceased birds will be given to the Poultry Superintendent for proper disposal. 9. VIOLATION OF RULES: Any exhibitor, parent, or other individual assisting the exhibitor who violates the rules of the show or conducts themselves in a manner requiring disciplinary action or law enforcement involvement can disqualify all said exhibitor s entries, thus forfeiting all prizes. This action could disqualify said exhibitor from participating in future GLFFAPS shows. This includes unethical or inhumane treatment of exhibitor s animals. Final decision will be determined by the GLFFAPS Board of Directors.

3 10. PROTESTS: All protests must be in writing and accompanied by a cash deposit of $100 which will be forfeited if the protest is not sustained. Any protest as to the eligibility of the animal and / or exhibitor must be filed with the President of the GLFFAPS (or authorized representative) prior to the judging of the animal. The GLFFAPS President will notify all parties involved in the protest as soon as a decision is made. 11. PRESENCE ON THE SHOW GROUNDS: The show barn will be open 12:00 pm Friday January 1, No one will be allowed in the barn or pen facilities prior to this without written notice from the GLFFAPS. The show barn will be open 6:00 am Saturday January 2, a. All animals will be released upon the Livestock Chairpersons announcement. Any animals remaining in the barn after a designated time may be removed by the show committee at the owner s expense. b. Once an entry is checked in, it may not leave the show grounds until released by the Livestock Committee. 12. LOSS OR INJURY: The Greater Leander FFA Project Show, its board, nor membership is responsible for loss or injury to any person or animals. 13. BEDDING: The GLFFAPS will have available for purchase wood shavings for bedding. No bedding other than wood shavings will be allowed in the barn. For fire and safety reasons, hay for bedding will not be allowed under any circumstances. Only hay the animals will eat during one feeding will be allowed. 14. SCALES: Official scales will be used by GLFFAPS personnel to determine official weights. No other scales will be allowed. Any tampering with the scales by anyone other than an officer of the show is terms for disqualification from the show. 15. HEALTH RULES AND REGULATIONS AND TREATMENT OF ANIMALS: a. No animal showing evidence of disease shall be permitted on the show grounds. A qualified individual will be present to inspect entries. Any animal deemed unhealthy or diseased by the inspector will not be allowed on the show grounds and must immediately leave the premises. The inspector s decision is final. b. Treating an animal internally or externally, with any irritant, counter-irritant, or other substance used to artificially change the conformation or appearance of an animal for show is considered unethical, inhumane, and is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to the use of graphite, air, powders, hemp, artificial hair coloring, common products such as fly spray, ointment, or liniment used to the point that it is irritating, or similar products. The use of dyes, spray paint, or other artificial coloring which result in altering an animal s true and natural appearance and / or color is prohibited. Adding false hair or hair-like material, fleece, or skin at any point, spot or area of the animal s body is illegal and could result in immediate disqualification. Surgery, injection or insertion of foreign material under the skin and/or into the flesh of an animal to change the natural contour, conformation or appearance of an animal s body is illegal. This includes vegetable oil, air, silicon or any other substance used to alter the shape of the animal. Acceptable practices of physical preparation which are allowed include, clipping of hair, trimming of hooves, dehorning, removal of ancillary teats, and docking of tails. The use of inhumane fitting, showing and/ or handling practices or devices shall not be tolerated. If it is determined any of the above practices were used, it will take a majority vote of the Board of Directors to take action. Only after all evidence and test results are available, a decision will be

4 made by the GLFFAPS Board of Directors on the outcome and future status of the exhibitor. The majority vote of the GLFFAPS Board of Directors is final. 16. ADVERTISING: No exhibitor will be allowed to wear advertising of any kind, other than accepted FFA insignia, on clothing worn while exhibiting. Exhibitors will not be allowed to wear caps or hats while showing. 17. JUDGE S AND CLASSIFIER S DECISIONS: The judge s and any classifier s decisions will be final. 18. SHOWMANSHIP: The showmanship classes will be an all-up and all-in per species. Awards will be presented as outlined by the GLFFAPS. Exhibitors may only show animals in the showmanship classes that were entered in their name. 19. NUMBER OF CLASSES: The number of classes for any breed will be determined by the Livestock Committee on the day of the show prior to the posting of show orders and class breaks. 20. OFFICIAL WEIGHTS: All livestock entries are subject to a weigh-back at the judge s discretion, subject to disqualification if outside the following ranges: Swine: +/- 10 lbs. Cattle: +/- 5% Lamb and Goat: +/- 5 lbs. 21. EXCEPTIONS: No exceptions will be made to any of the above rules.

5 Greater Leander FFA Project Show Entry Rules Entry Procedure and Deadline: The show will take place on Saturday, January 2, Entries will be accepted through 8:00 am to noon on Friday, January 1. All entries must be submitted through your school s Agricultural Science Teacher. The right is reserved to reject entirely or accept conditionally any entry and to refuse any accepted entry admittance to the grounds. All Projects must be hand made by exhibitor under Agricultural Science Teacher approval. Finished projects may not be store bought, but may be made from kits. Entry Fees: Entries will be $20.00 per project. Entry fees paid at the time of entry. No Refunds of Entry Fees Will Be Made Project Show General Rules Project Identification Form: Exhibitor s Project Identification Forms will be provided at check-in. Exhibit Areas will be closed during Judging. Judges decisions are final. Project Qualifications: Projects that have been released back to the exhibitor from a Greater Leander FFA Show cannot be re-entered in a Greater Leander FFA Show in following years. Group Projects: Group projects are permitted in some divisions to allow two or more youth to work together on one project. Group project exhibitor guidelines: Group projects will be entered and judged in the age group based on the grade of the oldest member in the group. An exhibitor may participate in ONLY ONE group project. Complete descriptions must be given for each entry. All group members and parent or guardian must sign entry form. One (1) exhibitor may enter the group project, but must list all individuals in the group on the entry form. All members participating in a group project must be present at time of judging for personal interview on the project. If all members are not present, points will be deducted

6 Classifications: Questions arising in classification of entries will be resolved by the Greater Leander FFA Show General Superintendent. Entries must be appropriate for the division/class entered and must meet all rules pertaining to the division/class or it will be disqualified. At the Greater Leander FFA Show General Superintendent s discretion, Greater Leander FFA Project Show reserves the right to combine and/or divide any class for more competitive judging. The Greater Leander FFA Show General Superintendent may move an entry to another division/class in order to group similar items for judging. Decision of Greater Leander FFA Show General Superintendent is final. Safety: All projects shall meet safety standards and electrical codes. Failure to comply shall result in the disqualification of the project (see Agriculture Mechanics Show Rules) NO LIVE ANIMALS Ribbons: Ribbons will be placed on the projects upon completion of judging. Blue, Red and White ribbons will be awarded on the basis of 1 st, 2 nd, or 3 rd place ranking. Awards: Rosettes will be awarded to Class Champions and Reserve Class Champions provided they are blue ribbon quality. Projects receiving blue ribbons are eligible for a Class Winner or Reserve Class Winner award. 1 st place Class Winner will compete for Division champion and Reserve champion to receive prizes. Division 1- Agriculture Mechanics Rules All Agriculture Mechanics projects and exhibitors are subject to the rules and regulation of the Greater Leander FFA Show General Rules and all subsequent rules in this section. Entries are limited to students that are members of Texas FFA Chapters. Exhibitors must construct projects exhibited as part of their SAEP (Supervised Agricultural Experience Program) Project construction must have started on or after August 1, All Projects must be clean, painted, or treated and in a presentable condition even though they may have been used. The majority of the project must be wood and constructed from raw materials to qualify for the wood class.

7 Documentation: An original working plan or drawing, photographs showing stages of construction and a bill of materials are required with each project. Additional documentation may be required for plan of vehicles that are used on public highways. ASAE standards must be met on three-point hitch and PTO Operated equipment. Working Drawing: Should include a student drawn original multi-view orthographic projection drawn to a given scale with proper lettering and dimensioning. Dimensioning shown on drawing should be specific and complete enough for it to be apparent that drawing was used to plan and construct project. Judges will spot check dimensions on projects to see if they comply with drawings. Drawing may be a CAD (Computer Aided Design). Pictorials, isometric oblique, or perspective may be included. Bill of Materials: Must include a list or a description of material, including quantity, size and cost. Other Information such as date of purchase, vendors name and/or Purchase Order Number, etc. may be included. Photographs: Showing work in progress should depict proper safety procedures including clothing, eye and face shields, etc. Photographs should be sequenced in the order of constructing the project. Safety: SDS sheets of all products used in the construction of the project must be part of the official documentation. Safety: Display: Appropriate and safe display stands are to be provided by exhibitor for gates, panels, and other projects that need support. Sharp edges and points (such as those found on self-feeder roofs, bale movers, etc.) are to be padded and/or covered as necessary in order to prevent injury. Transportation: All trailers and other equipment that will be operated and/or transported on public roads must be equipped with safety equipment specified in Title 7, Vehicles and Traffic Transport Code of Texas Statutes. Specific chapters regarding Width ( ), Lights and Reflectors ( , , , ), Brakes ( and ), Length ( ) and Inspection ( ) must be adhered to.

8 Judges Criteria: Workmanship points Design and Materials Used...20 points Practicality points Degree of Difficulty points General Appearance and Finish...10 points Documentation and Presentation..10 points Categories Metal Class Livestock Equipment-cages, trim chutes, blocking tables, head gates, crates, feeders, etc. Recreational Equipment-BBQ pits, fire pits, picnic tables, hunting equipment, yard art, metal art, etc. Trailers-stock trailers, utility trailers, car haulers, hay buggy, gooseneck, bumper pull, etc. Farm Equipment-sprayers, plows, disk, entrance gates, truck equipment and accessories, tools, etc. Wood class Categories Livestock Equipment- Hog spread panels, gates, chicken coop, rabbit hutch, show box, etc. Outdoor Accessories-picnic tables, porch swings, Adirondack chairs, planters, Indoor Accessories- chest, gun cabinet, book case, coffee table, jewelry boxes, hat rack, etc.

9 Division 2- Horticulture Rules Appropriate and safe display stands are to be provided by exhibitor for hanging baskets, wreaths & swags, and other projects that need support. Water must not leak from living plant project containers. Plants may belong to any species. Plants must be healthy and bug free. Select a container that enhances the creative presentation of the entry. Categories Living Plants Classes Dish Garden-succulents, herbs, flowers, terrariums Hanging Basket Potted Plants Floral Design Classes Categories Permanent Designs- center pieces, set pieces, etc. Wreaths & Swags- Holiday designs, etc. Fresh Designs- centerpieces, set pieces, etc. Homecoming Mums & Spirit Designs

10 Division 3- Agriscience Fair Rules There will be Agriscience Fair Project display that will follow the Agriscience fair rules set forth and adopted by the Texas FFA. These rules can be found at and will be the basis and governing rules for the Agrisciene Fair portion of the Greater Leander ISD Project Show. The interview portion of the Agriscience Fair will held Friday, Janurary 1, between 12:00 noon and 3:00pm. All displays, materials, and content of the Agriscience Fair projects will be judge Saturday, Janurary 2, starting at 8:00am.
