2 About HIMSS HIMSS is a global, cause-based, not-for-profit organization focused on better health through information technology (IT). Vision: Better health through information technology Mission: Globally, lead endeavors optimizing health engagements and care outcomes through information technology
3 Roundtable established in December 2014 The CNO-CNIO Vendor Roundtable serves as an advocate and leader for the nursing community, provide guidance on informatics competencies for nursing, and provide guidance on EHR related topics including analytics, interoperability, usability, terminology, workflow, quality and outcomes. This pioneer partnership led by HIMSS and including the nursing health IT suppliers depends largely on the ability to move beyond the cultural norms of each partner's organization in the service of innovation to advance outcomes for nursing and clinical practice.
4 Purpose & Objectives To optimize health engagement and care outcomes through IT by leveraging the thought leadership of HIT vendor nurse executives Serve as an advocate and leader for the nursing community Provide guidance on informatics competencies for nursing Provide guidance on EHR related topics including analytics, interoperability, usability, terminology, workflow, quality and outcomes

6 Workgroups Commissioned In response to recommendations made by the HIMSS CNO-CNIO Vendor Roundtable at the Inaugural Summit, three workgroups were established to advance and strengthen the voice of nurses in the health IT supplier environment: Big Data Principles Workgroup Human Factors/ Usability Workgroup Vendor Nurse Role Workgroup

The resource will emphasize that nursing leadership needs to be at the table when IT decisions are made so they can provide their knowledge and insight to help guide these crucial decisions. It is our vision to be a champion for nursing in the implementation and adoption of IT and lead with a strategic vision within the organization. Status: Pending publication August 2015

Status: Pending public dissemination August 2015
10 Our Contributions to Nursing Big Data What is big data? What are the challenges? Opportunities for nursing? Human Factors/Usability Why is usability important? What is the role of nursing? The role of nurse executives in health IT? Roles What are the demographics and organizational value of nurses at health IT solutions companies? Published top 10 recommendations from "Guiding Principles for Big Data in Nursing," that include: Promoting standards & interoperability, Advancing quality e-measures and Leveraging nursing informatics experts. Provides perspectives & guidance for nurse executives on human factors & usability concepts & issues. Publishing Nurse Health IT Vendor Survey Results
11 Serves as a Think Tank During the second Roundtable Summit Dr. Kathleen McCormick, a senior practitioner, researcher, and policy executive in health informatics, bioinformatics, cardiopulmonary physiology, and gerontology, provided her insights on current trends, knowledge, data models and technology required for the next level of informatics -- comparative genetic data. 12 The Next Wave As healthcare continues to evolve, acceleration in the use of health IT will only continue. The CNO- CNIO Vendor Roundtable serves as an advocate and leader for the nursing community and will contribute to defining a vision for the future of nursing that considers the technologies that can assist in achieving better health through information technology.
