At Multnomah, we ve designed our Degree Completion Program (DCP) for the working professional with rich life experience. You ll be able to complete your bachelor s degree in a nontraditional academic setting by attending one evening class per week. As you further your studies, you ll discover the power of a curriculum with a robust biblical and theological framework. Our expert faculty will engage you. OVERVIEW Our program has been developed to meet the needs of working adults who have completed at least 48 college credits. (If you have less than 48 credits, we offer a precohort option. Read more on Page 6.) The Degree Completion Program is unique. The curriculum contains 16 courses that are taught in fiveweek-long modules. The program is not a collection of independent courses, but rather a unified curriculum with sequential courses. Your curriculum will be presented in a series of Student Guides that you ll receive electronically with detailed assignments for each week. The courses are scheduled over four semesters equaling 48 semester hours of credit. The schedule is planned to allow for holidays. Benefits The Degree Completion Program will allow you to: Earn a bachelor s degree in approximately 23 months. Convert significant life experiences into college credit by documenting past training, work-related projects and competencies. Attend class one evening each week from 6 to 10 p.m. Improve communication, leadership skills and vocational effectiveness. Develop group cohesiveness and an active network of associates. Receive individualized instruction and specific attention to problem areas of learning. 5 SERVICE LEARNING The purpose of the Service Learning Department is to provide students with opportunities to take classroom knowledge and apply it to real-life situations to encourage a lifetime of fruitful ministry. Students serve consistently in ministries while being mentored directly by field mentors and indirectly by Degree Completion staff. For each semester of ministry completed, the student fulfills one Service Learning credit. Students must successfully complete one Service Learning course for every semester they re enrolled in the program. 5

6 EARNING COLLEGE CREDIT Have less than 48 (72 quarter hours) college credits? If you have at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours), you can still enroll as a pre-cohort student. The classes you take while in pre-cohort status are used to meet general education and elective requirements. Once you accumulate 48 credits, you can select a major and join a cohort. While in pre-cohort standing, you ll have a variety of ways to earn college credit. Bridge Courses General education and elective requirements can be met with these five-week, modular courses offered on campus. New courses are available at five-week intervals. Online Education In conjunction with the DCP program, Multnomah has partnered with the Consortium of Online Christian Colleges (COCC) to make online courses available to DCP students. Students may use online courses for general education requirements and electives rather than as a substitute for courses in the core curriculum. The DCP Office will assist students in making arrangements for these courses. Students must have reliable Internet access and an active address. All students do not need to be online at the same time to participate in online courses, but they will have contact with their instructor and classmates through forums and . Evaluation of Alternative Educational Experiences Students can earn elective credit through Alterative Educational Experiences, Credit by Examination, and Credit by Demonstrated Competency (CDC). Unless otherwise approved, this credit will be applied only to elective credit. The University will evaluate formal educational experiences gained in non-college settings. Where the American Council on Education (ACE) has evaluated such courses, the University will use the evaluation in the appropriate guide as a source for determining what credit might be given. Students also may have taken courses in a technical institute, as specialized training in the military, or in specialized institutes (such as banking and real estate). Multnomah University will evaluate such work according to standards established by accrediting associations. Credit by Examination Multnomah University accepts the results of testing by CLEP (College Level Examination Program), DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) or a departmental examination approved by Multnomah. CLEP exams are offered on campus in both the general education and elective categories at a reasonable cost per exam. A maximum of 30 semester hours of general education or elective credit can be accepted from CLEP. Credit by Demonstrated Competency (CDC) CDC allows a student to prepare a portfolio describing specific work activities and life experiences and the learning that resulted from these experiences. Material for this portfolio can come from a number of different sources including: workshops, seminars, self-study, noncredit classes, training courses and work experiences. A maximum of 30 semester hours of elective credit can be accepted from CDC. 6

7 MULTNOMAH UNIVERSITY DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRAM INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE? Throughout the year, Multnomah holds information sessions on campus and at other locations where you can join others in learning about the Degree Completion Program. These sessions provide an overview of DCP, financial information, start dates for various cohorts, application procedures and more. You can find a schedule of upcoming info sessions at multnomah.edu/ preview/dcp. You re also welcome to schedule a meeting with an admissions counselor to discuss the program and how it may meet your needs. Call the Admissions Office at to set up an appointment. As you consider enrolling in the Degree Completion Program, we encourage you to submit all official or unofficial academic transcripts to us. That way, we can complete a free preliminary transcript evaluation and review the best way for you to reach your goals. This is a very important and helpful step in the enrollment process. READY TO APPLY? Complete an Application for Admission. You can print a paper application or apply online at multnomah.edu/apply. Your application should be accompanied by a $40 application fee and your 300- to 500-word essay about your relationship with Jesus Christ and your faith journey. Your application file will also include official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended, a Spiritual Life Reference and a Personal Reference. Multnomah utilizes rolling admission, which means that the Admission Committee will review your file quickly upon completion usually within one month and we ll continue to accept students for admission until each cohort is filled. NEED FINANCIAL AID? DCP at Multnomah University is a convenient, economical way to finish your college degree. In addition, you may be eligible for grants or loans from the federal government. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at fafsa.gov. In the college section of the FAFSA, be sure to list Multnomah University, with school code To sign your FAFSA, you will need a personal identification number, which can be obtained at pin.ed.gov. 7
