1 Itslearning Assignment Directions Creating the Assignment: 1. Go to your Course and click Add in the navigation tree. Click Add in the folder you wish to add the assignment 2. Click Add Assignment. 3. Enter the fields to setup the assignment. Scroll down when finished with the fields below. a. Title: This is what is displayed in the course tree. b. Text: Enter instructions for students along with files, links or embedded videos needed to complete the assignment. A rich-text editor is present and supports teacher voice and video instructions. c. Deadline: Set the date and time the assignment is due. d. Mandatory: Set the assignment to Mandatory e. Activation Status to Yes (Viewable), No (Hidden), or Set Time Span for visibility.

2 4. Continue entering the fields below. a. Files: Attach any supporting files for the assignment. b. Use Groups: Leave on Do not use groups c. Submission Status: Leave on Status. d. Plagiarism control: If you wish to check student s submissions against previously submitted assignments and against the internet, check this box. e. Assessment: Change to Score and enter 100 for Max Score. f. Learning Objectives: Attach standards by clicking Add Learning Objectives. 5. Click Save. Setting Permissions for Assignment (Optional): 1. By default the assignment is assigned to all users. If you need to assign the assignment to individual students or groups, open the assignment, click the Settings wheel in the upper right hand corner, and then select Permissions. 2. Click on Select who can take this assignment.

3 3. Toggle between individual students and groups by clicking on the Participants and Groups radio button. Check the students you wish to assign the assignment to and then click Add. Click Save when finished. Submitting the Assignment: (Students) 1. Student will go to the assignment in the course. 2. After reading the directions, the student will click Submit Answer. 3. If there is a file to submit, the student will click the +Add file link. 4. In the Add file section that opens, click Browse. 5. Find the file to be submitted. Click Open and wait for it to upload. 6. If the student wishes to type a comment to the teacher or type answer to the assignment, he or she should type that information in the Text box. 7. Students can insert audio or video clips by clicking the Add audio recording (microphone) or Add video recording (video camera) icons.

4 a) For Audio Recording: (using computer) 1. Click Allow to grant access to microphone. 2. Name the recording. 3. When ready to record, click the record button (button with red dot). When done recording, hit the stop button (button with square). To listen to recording, click play button (button with arrow). 4. When happy with recording, click Insert to add recording to submission. b) For Video Recording: (using computer) 1. Select Allow to grant access to camera and microphone and click Close. 2. Name the recording. 3. When ready to record, click the record button (button with red dot). When done recording, hit the stop button (button with square). To listen to recording, click play button (button with arrow). 4. When happy with recording, click Insert to add recording to submission. c) If you are using a tablet or phone, the recorders do not work because they are flash based. However, here are some ideas for submitting recordings from devices. 1. To use your device camera to record, click +Add file, click Browse button, select Take Photo or Video for IOS or select Camcorder for Android, record your video, and for IOS click Use video to attach it and for Android click the checkmark. 2. You can record yourself using a voice or video app (ex.: QuickVoice or device camera), upload the file to your Google Drive account, then use the +Add file link to import the file from your Google Drive account, and submit. 8. Click Submit. **If you need to later edit your submission, just go back to the assignment. Scroll down to see your submission, if needed, and click the Edit or Delete button.

5 Assessing Assignment Submissions: 1. Click on the Assignment in the course tree to open it. 2. When the assignment opens, you will see a table of student submissions. To open a submission, click on the Show link in the last column of the table. 3. Once the student submission opens, click on the File link to open any file that was attached. 4. In the Status dropdown, change the status to be what you deem appropriate for the submission. 5. In the Score box, type a score. 6. In the Comment box, type comments. 7. If you wish to add audio feedback,click the Add audio recording (microphone). a. If you click on that choice, an audio recorder box will open. (You will need a headset with a microphone or a standalone mic.)

6 b. Title your recording and click the button with the red dot (record). c. When you are done recording, click the button with the rectangle to stop recording. d. Click the Insert button to add the recording to the comment box. 8. If you want to create comments directly on the student submission, click the [Create comment] link right at the end of the submitted file. a. An Edit file content box should open, and a copy of the submitted file will open. b. Type comments on the file that opened. c. When you are done typing comments, click the Upload button in the Edit file content box. d. A pop-up will ask if you want to upload the file. Click Yes. e. Your comment file will then be added to the Comment files box below the Comment text box.

7 9. Click Save. 10. Repeat for additional students in the course. Additional Features: Ability to Assess Multiple Submissions If a teacher wishes to assess multiple student submissions at once, teacher should complete the following steps. 1. Check the box in front of the items to assess. 2. Click the Assess Multiple button. 3. Edit the Status, Score, and Comment. 4. Click Save. Ability to Filter Submissions by Group Student submissions to the assignment will be listed in the table by time submitted. A teacher can filter the list to only show one class period (group) at a time. 1. Find the Filter by: choice and click on the Group dropdown. 2. From the drop down, select the group one wishes to view. Ability to Use a Rubric to grade the Assignment see Creating Rubrics directions.
