2 After collecting office papers, they are sorted, de-inked and bleached without chlorine. The pulp is then sent to mills making paper. Discover the steps involved in the manufacture of recycled paper. Raw materials Office paper, photocopy paper, laser printing, white archives. Pressing Draining of the pulp into a pulp press. Pulping Blending of old papers into the soap-water and mixing into a turbine to separate fibres, ink and other components. Drying The water remaining in the pulp evaporates as it passes through the drier. Screening Extraction of plastics, staples, glues, dust, etc. through cyclonic purification and sieving. Cutting De-inking Ink extraction through flotation : the hydrophobic ink particles stick to air bubbles, formed thanks to the added soap, and brought to the surface by aspiration. Packaging before shipment Whitening : cleaning in 2 steps 1) with hydrogen peroxide and a period of time spent in a retention tower. 2) with sodium hydrosulfite. 3 The basic principle is to mix pulp with a lot of water to produce a smooth liquid solution. Water is then eliminated by the cheapest and less energy-consuming processes possible (gravity, suction, pressure, drying) to form a sheet of paper. 4 Pulp preparation The fibres are mixed with water in a «pulper». There are two types of cellulose fibres : 1) Long fibres (hardwood) 2) Fibres (softwood) both sourced from sustainable managed forests Cellulose fibres Mix water + pulp Copyright 2014 Arjowiggins and its licensors. 6 Wet section This mixture or pulp is poured from the "head box" onto a canvas called the wire. The fibres mat together on the wire and form the sheet, once the water has been drained off. The wire Recycled water Copyright 2014 Arjowiggins and its licensors. All rights reserved. #6
