Would you like to host a poker night, wine tasting, or day out on your boat? Are you always receiving rave reviews of your cookie recipe? Do you want to show off your talent or give of your expertise? This is the perfect opportunity do what you enjoy, AND to help our school to raise enough money to continue services like Hang Time, 7th grade science experiments and the 8th grade field trip to UW! children's middle school years great! It is that time again for the Annual PTA Reflections Art Contest This year s Reflections theme is Let your imagination fly Entry forms can be found on the bulletin board near the 1st floor Activity Center. You can also download your own forms at Entries must be turned into the school office by Friday, October 23rd at 12:00 p.m. Judging will occur in each category and top entries will be chosen. Reflections is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. It is to provide an opportunity for student to demonstrate their talents by expressing themselves through their own original works. A student may submit an entry in any of 7 categories, including: ~ Literature~ Music Composition~ Film/Video~Choreography/DancePhotography~ Visual Arts and Special Artist~ Only original works of art are allowed for submission. A reception will be held honoring all those who participated. From there, those who were the top entries will be sent to the Shoreline Center for a district reception and further judging will take place to continue on to the state level. Join PTSA Today! We are selling advertisement space in the directory and need sponsors. Access the School Calendar Here! Fall Luncheon for Teachers and Staff The PTSA is hosting a fall luncheon for the Teachers and Staff on

3 invaluable! Membership dues help to pay for activities such as Hang Time, 8th Grade pig heart dissections in Science, and "Kids in Medicine" for our 7th graders just to name a few. Without your help, these programs would not exist. Being a member does not mean you have to volunteer! Being a member means you are supporting the programs that are so important at Kellogg. October 22nd with the theme of "Comfort Foods". We are looking for volunteers to make, bake, or buy food for the luncheon. May 9th -13th/ Teachers and Staff Appreciation Week June 16 th /End of the school Luncheon Host Families Needed in May for Japanese Exchange Students Also, the Membership Committee is looking for a Co- Chair to be able to take over next year. The time commitment is minimal and you get to meet lots of families at the few events that happen before school! I've really enjoyed taking this role! Box Tops for Educations: Bring your box tops to the office. The Japanese World Language class at Kellogg Middle School participates yearly in an exchange program with Shukutoku-Sugamo Middle School in Tokyo. This is a fantastic opportunity for all students involved! Our 8th grade students get the opportunity to travel to Japan during the summer, but the Japanese students travel to the Seattle area in May (usually the 3rd week). Both schools work with Azumano International, which is a company that assists the student exchange by finding host families in both countries. We are looking for host families that would

Points/Participating-Products be willing to accommodate two Japanese students for the last three days of their stay in Seattle and to introduce them to the host family's culture and daily life. 3. Thriftway Receipts: Thriftway will donate a percentage of receipts (excluding some items) VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Check all the ways you can share your interests and help our Kellogg kids: AFTER SCHOOL DANCES : Ticket sales Bring snacks Pass out snacks at the snack table Snack table attendant Chaperone on the dance floor Chaperone the exits 8 TH GRADE GRADUATION PARTY & DANCE (JUNE) help with decorations Bring snacks Here's the schedule: The Japanese students will arrive at Kellogg Middle School at lunch time on a Friday and go to classes with the 2nd year 8 th grade Japanese students. The host family will attend a Welcome Party at the end of the school day on Friday to meet and welcome their exchange students. The exchange student will then go home with the host family and stay the weekend. On Monday morning the exchange students will need to be dropped off at Kellogg Middle School.
