2 The SACE International programme provided a great foundation to prepare me for university life, not only building my subject knowledge but also improving my time management and communication skills. The intensive one-year course was challenging at times, but this equipped me with the skills for even bigger upcoming challenges. After completing the SACE International, I was accepted by the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom where I studied for a Bachelor of Science in Geology. I was sponsored by Shell and since graduating I have been working for Shell. Because the SACE International is recognised internationally, it has been invaluable in helping me pursue my academic goals. I am currently a third-year student at Cornell University majoring in Communication and minoring in Applied Economics and Management. Emilyn Teh Studying the SACE International programme is challenging and full of surprises, but the end result makes it all worthwhile. I believe with enough determination, perseverance and character, the SACE International is a course for everyone. The knowledge and experience gained is very valuable. On completing the SACE International, I hope to study medicine at the International Medical University. 4 The comprehensive SACE International course and structure, where laboratory work, research papers and presentations during the year were included in our overall assessment, has helped prepare me for university life. Hard work and discipline was required throughout the SACE International, just as it is now in my pharmacy studies at the International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur. The SACE International equipped me with valuable skills and knowledge which will help me now and into the future. I liked the fact that there was a balance between study, work and play. I also enjoyed the community service element of the SACE International. Ng Ee Von I chose the SACE International programme because I wanted to continue my studies overseas. Through the programme, and the support of SACE International teachers, I was accepted into Cambridge University. SACE International teachers were highly dedicated and helped me develop good study habits. Through SACE International I became a hard-working, well organised, independent learner. The SACE International has a broad curriculum suitable for all students and the extracurricular activities helped broaden my horizons, enrich my knowledge and grow my confi dence. Chao Ye The SACE International programme encourages you to think and apply theories you learn in the classroom to real-life situations. The focus is on developing thinking and learning skills, rather than memorising facts. As 70 per cent of students fi nal grades are derived from coursework and tests in the classroom, there is a greater emphasis on working consistently throughout the year. Through the coursework, I also gained valuable skills such as proper time management, teamwork and cooperation. I achieved an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 99.9 per cent through the SACE International. 7 An affordable, excellent program SACE International provides world-class pathways to university study around the world. It represents excellent value for an international pre-university qualifi cation in terms of duration and cost. SACE International is traditionally an 11-month program; however, some colleges may offer varying timeframes to complete the programme, including nine and 18 month options. Students select fi ve subjects based on what they plan to study at university. For each subject, students receive a grade ranging from A+ to E-. These grades will be used by some universities to form a Grade Point Average (GPA) for entrance selection purposes. Students also receive points out of 20 for each subject. These are called Tertiary Entrance Points. The points for the best four subjects and half of the fi fth subject are totalled to form a university aggregate (reported as a score of 90.0*). This aggregate is used to derive an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) a percentile ranking recognised by all Australian universities to select students into university courses. The ATAR is preferred by some universities around the world for entrance selection purposes. Students fi nal grades for each subject are calculated from school assessments (70 per cent) and external assessments (30 per cent). This allows students to build on their knowledge and skills throughout the year, accumulating marks towards their fi nal score as they study. Students work is assessed through a marking, moderation, and review process to ensure that grades accurately refl ect student knowledge and effort. *80 in 2014; 90 from 2015.
