2 LOG LINE An allegory of the spiritual journey; a young man (Colin Campbell) regains consciousness in a paranormal forest; he realizes that he lost his best and only friend his dog and with the help of a Native American guide (Will Thomas) the man embarks on a dog search that leads him deeper into the unknown. SYNOPSIS A young man (Colin Campbell) regains consciousness and finds himself trapped in a forest of the infinite. The man soon realizes that he has lost his best and only friend his dog a Golden Retriever named Gus. As his dog search leads him deeper into the unknown, the man experiences a deconstruction of identity; a loss of self; the man is flooded with phantasms, symbolism, imagery, and emotions that transcend his understanding. With the help of a Native American spiritual guide (Will Thomas), the man passes through an esoteric realm a realm both light and dark unknowingly unlocking universal truths along the way. Big Waves is a theurgic allegory of the spiritual journey, with elements and motifs of the paranormal, surrealism, and the occult. DIRECTOR S STATEMENT I started working on this film, Big Waves, two years ago and finally completed it this August, Inspired by a number of dream-state visions, I started writing the screenplay during my Spring of After completing the screenplay, I returned to Michigan and immediately resumed work on the pre-production phases of the project. At the time, my attempt at organizing a successful DIY short film seemed to have a promising future I had gathered a fine crew of committed non-actors that would also serve as my production crew and I had secured a modest budget moreover, the shooting schedule was quite feasible and I was convinced the film was in the can. Well, things went differently than I had planned, and before we knew it, time was running out. Some of the actors were in good health and committed to the project; others simply were exhausted from working their day jobs and eventually lost enthusiasm for the project. Ultimately, the shooting script of Big Waves never was completed in its entirety. In fact, the most crucial scenes with exposition and dialogue were either partially-completed or unattempted. I learnt a great deal and significant self-evolution occurred during the process of this project. Big Waves became a lifestyle. Big Waves became an editing journey. The lack of production success presented some great challenges in the editing room the story lacked a clear-cut narrative and there were no completed scenes of characters dialoguing with one another. The film sat for some months before I gathered enough ambition to start editing. There have been over twenty cuts of Big Waves and, amazingly, following this path of endless editing revisions led to thematic discoveries inherit in the story and self-discovery as a filmmaker; I found that my initial, deep seated intentions were manifesting in other, more subtle forms. In retrospect, Big Waves never would have worked as a narrative; it was meant to be an experimental short and a significant filmmaking journey before the project even came to existence. 3 DIRECTOR S BIOGRAPHY Andrew Rosinski is a Chicago-based filmmaker and artist whose work experiments within the narrative, documentary, motion design, and experimental genres. Common thematic elements of his work are often described as surreal, subversive, psychedelic, allegorical, paranormal, and feverish elements that, in one way or another, draw influence from his Northern Michigan upbringing a region that is home to several major Native American tribes, whose legends and stories are very much part of the Northern Michigan culture and landscape. At age 22, Andrew has made over twenty short films and is a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Film & Video Editing.
