What a Study Plan (PDS) is A Study Plan is the didactic career of every student enrolled in a Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) or Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) course. The Study Plan identifies all compulsory and optional educational activities, as well as those selected independently, in respect of the commitments established by the study programme classes and the teaching organisation, divided into course years. Students who find difficult to study full time can submit a Study Plan with an ECTS number lower than 60 (but not lower than 30, with the exception of specific situations, such as for example: students without OFA additional educational obligations). Once completed, the Study Plan can be approved according to the School and pertaining study programme. A course must be added to the Study Plan in order to use the related didactic services: students must also attend lessons, be on the teacher's lists, take part in practical exercises, take part in practical and integrative activities (laboratories, seminars, projects, etc.), be eligible (enrolling for the exam sessions) for ongoing evaluations and exam tests, and receive a profit assessment. How to present a Study Plan To present a Study Plan, go to the Online Services ( Personalised services Course data Study plan. To fill in a Study Plan, select the courses you want to do from the teaching offer of your course of study, acquiring a minimum of 30 and up to a maximum of 80 ETCS (University credits). The plan must be completed respecting the study course teaching regulations. The number of credits required for graduation are: 180 ETCS for Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science), 120 ETCS for Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science), 300 ETCS for 5-year single cycle programme (Master of Science 5 year course). You can present: a recommended plan a plan to be approved this is when the educational is the one recommended in the Study course Regulations. The plan is automatically accepted. this is when the plan does not comply with the programme and/or the education regulations. In order to be approved, the plan must be evaluated and validated by the teaching boards. The amount of the University fees to be paid with the second instalment varies according to the number of ECTS inserted. The real calculation is therefore made after the optional half-year modification has been closed. Page 4 of 16
When to present your Study Plan The Study Plan should be presented annually, and some Schools allow its modification before the start of the second semester. The deadlines for presenting the Plan vary according to the School and the related course. The dates are given in the academic calendar ( calendar). What you see when you present your Study plan While presenting your Study Plan, pay attention to the messages; they give useful administrative and teaching information. You will be able to see that the rules have been organised in order to offer indications about the Administrative Secretariat and Schools and related Teaching. To simplify reading, the information is divided into sections: As shown in the screen example below. Academic Calendar This section provides the Study Plan presentation period, and the half-year modification period, if possible. cademic calendar You can access the Study plan presentation process: o from to and the six-monthly plan modification procedure: o from 01/01/2015 to 01/07/2015 Page 5 of 16
Service communications The service communications for your specific study programme can be found here. Service communications The enrolment PSPA (track) has already been defined. The PSPA definition phase will not be proposed but will remain available for possible data modification Communication from the School In this section you can have direct access to the notices and teaching regulations of your School. Communication from the School to access notices and/or regulations on your School study course teaching, click on this link: Notes for compiling the Study Plan This section contains: a Tutorial about the study plan presentation. We recommend you to follow it carefully, it will only take four minutes and it explains in advance the process that you will have to follow general information that sums up everything you have to know about presenting your Study plan Page 6 of 16
Specifications on Laurea e Laurea Magistrale courses The Study plan of Degree courses lasts one year, therefore each year you have to reinsert not only new courses but all the courses of the previous year that you did not pass (considering possible changes to the Regulations). The only exception concerns the "Final test", unless related to exams that have not been passed, and "internships" which are inserted only once in the whole university career. For Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science), the courses/training activities, once inserted in the Study Plan, remain there for the subsequent years as attendances that have been acquired. The only exception is the Laboratory of the School of Architecture which, if not passed, must be newly inserted into the Study Plan. Study Plan compilation methods The computerised system provides three different ways to insert courses: EFFECTIVE: courses indicated by the Regulations of the degree course enrolled for, and which have not yet been done. SINGLE SUBJECT: single subject courses that are not part of the degree course of which the student is enrolled in and, from the academic year in which they are inserted, and as for the effective credits, help to reach the credits that are useful for graduation upon approval by the Study Course Board. AS EXTRA: courses of which the ECTS do not help to reach the necessary number of credits for graduation (180 ECTS for Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) and 120 ECTS for Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science)). The computer system automatically shows the list of programmed courses and those still not passed: you can from the application select the green cart "Effective" icon and insert the exams recommended by the system from a minimum of 30 ECTS to a maximum of 80 ECTS during both first and second semester (for enrolled students at their second semester, the minimum is 15 ECTS). you can present a Study Plan with less than 30 ECTS only if, by the insertion of the Plan for the current academic year, you obtain all the credits required for graduation (or if you have OFA but do not have enough credits to be selected in order to reach the minimum of 30 ECTS) Courses as Extra Courses/training activities can be inserted in the Study Plan in As Extra position (select the purple cart "As Extra" icon), selected even from other study courses, for a maximum of 30 ECTS (only valid for Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science), with no maximum limit for Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science)) throughout your university course, excluding the ECTS validated as extra after changes or transfers. Courses as Extra: - are not considered for calculation of the total credits necessary for admission to the final test (180 ECTS for Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) and 120 ECTS for Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science)), therefore passing them is optional. - are not included when calculating the average score - can be included in the maximum limit of 80 ECTS when creating the Study Plan, and can also be included in the overall total of the ECTS that defines the amount to be paid for the second instalment - are recorded in the student's career and included in issued certificates if passed You can change the position of a course from effective to as extra or vice versa when presenting your Study Plan. This modification leads to the payment of the enrolment fee even if there is no new attendance. We suggest you, in case of limits in the insertion of specific as extra subjects,to refer to the Regulations of the individual study programme ( Manifesti). There is no guarantee that acquired as extra ECTS will be subsequently recognised during the request for admission to Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) and Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Page 7 of 16
Science). Possible recognition of exams and/or attendance is exclusive matter of the structure that evaluates the request for admission. You can take as extra exams until the day before, but not after, the date of the degree exam sessions. As extra exams can be taken in the first available session after enrolment to the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science), if attendance has been authorised. Tuition Fees, number of credits and University contributions The amount of the fees, called University contributions, the balance of which must be paid with the second instalment, is set according to the number of inserted ECTS. Number of credits and University tuition fees You can insert courses in your Study Plan which, when summed, reach from a minimum total of 30 ECTS to a maximum number of 80 ECTS. The amount of the University tuition fee will be fixed according to the number of ECTS inserted at the time of the closing of the semester modification, and must be paid with the second instalment. number of credits 30 from 31 to 45 from 46 to 73 more than 73 (maximum 80) % contribution to be paid 50 % 75 % 100 % 130 % Having OFA (Additonal Educational Obligations) limits the formulation of the Study Plan; for example it may be impossible to insert in the Study Plan, teachings of years after the first one. As soon as you manage to clear the Additonal Educational Obligations, you can go to the Registrar s Office and ask for integration of the Study Plan; to be provided on dedicated paper form. The fees paid will not be reimbursed if the student does not pass the final exams. At the end of the procedure, after being sure that the courses shown are those desired, you must save and print the final page as a receipt that confirms the right presentation of the Study Plan. Warning: the Study Plan cannot be modified after the given deadlines: if you have inserted more than 73 ECTS you cannot request a reduction in order to avoid the increase up to 130% in the amount of the calculation of the second instalment. Students who do not present their Study Plan within the given deadlines in the academic calendar must go to: For the School of Architecture: Student Services Center (COS) For the School of Design: Design Student Services Center (DICOS) For the Schools of Engineering the related Student Secretariat Charge on late payment If you have to insert your Plan after the deadline given for presentation, you will be charged ( Fines (Default Interest)) of for late payment, on the tuition fee of the second instalment. 9 Options for the Schools of Architecture and Design If included in the course programme for Study courses, held by the School of Architecture and School of Design, you will be asked to give your opinion on the PSPA (track) and possible Laboratory sections and/or optional courses, if required by the educational offer of your course. The Schools of Architecture and Society and the School of Civil Architecture have two different steps, both of which are compulsory for continuing with plan presentation: - Pspa options presentation - if indicated by the course programme - presentation of the Study Plan The Pspa options presentation phase is propaedeutic to that of the Study Plan. Both are compulsory. For Design courses the Pspa options, if indicated, will be collected with Study Plan presentation. For the School of Design, therefore, there will be a single phase of Plan presentation. Your section preferences for Laboratory and/or optional courses, if available, will be requested during plan compilation. During the period indicated in the academic calendar ( Programmes Calendar, Lessons, Exams) you can access the personalised page of the Online Services and use the required service ( Course data PSPA options presentation and/or Study Plan presentation). At the end of Plan activities, the collected preferences will be elaborated on the base of merit parameters and published on the dates specified in the academic calendar. The published date is to be considered definitive only starting from the indicated publication date. OFA (Additional Educational Obligations) recovery OFA (Additional Educational Obligations) means that some gaps have been found in your initial preparation. OFA add some limitations to your university course until you have recovered them. You can recover your Additional Educational Obligations during the academic year. How to recover/clear OFA (Additional Educational Obligations) The OFA recovery tests differ according to the School you are enrolled at and the year of enrolment when they were given to you. They are usually held at least one time every month. You cannot take a specific Test more than once each month. Test registration is free, and can be done by connecting to the Online Services ( Three-year single cycle programme: entry or recovery test and enrolment). Politecnico di Milano, in order to help students to recover their OFA organises English language preparation courses ( Students From Enrolment to Degree English Language) and, from June 2014, has activated MOOCs - Massive Online Open Courses ( moocs polimi Open Knowledge). It is the first Italian university portal to offer online courses that are free and for everyone. These courses can be attended remotely to support students, not only those of the Politecnico di Milano, during the critical passages of their University and professional programme: from high school to university, from a Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) to a Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science), from university to the job world. You can consult the active MOOCs on: Remember that OFA are attributed on the basis of the Entry test that you took, and can vary according to the enrolment year. Page 9 of 16

You can: - add or delete attendances that are requested during presentation step, and which are related to subjects held during the second semester of the current academic year - modify the educational activities held during the first semester of the current year, varying the position from as extra to effective or vice versa Subjects related to previous years can only be modified in September. You do not have to modify your Study Plan if you don't want to. Warning: During the second semester you cannot self-certify the passing of exams that are not yet recorded in your career. If you are enrolled in a degree course of the School of Architecture, you cannot modify/insert Laboratories and change subjects allocated to optional groups. You also cannot modify the Pspa enrolment. The terms, within which the Study Plan can be modified, vary according to the School, as indicated in the Academic Calendar ( Programmes Calendar, Lessons, Exams). Page 12 of 16
