1 TERMS & CONDITIONS Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) Food Science, Food Engineering and Food Technology Scholarships Award information The food and grocery product industry is Australia's largest manufacturing sector and makes a substantial contribution to the economic and social welfare of all Australians. The Australian Food and Grocery Council, as the leading national organisation representing Australia s packaged food, drink, and grocery products manufacturers, is offering five scholarship opportunities to encourage outstanding second year students in a food related program to pursue a career in Food Science, Engineering and Technology. The scholarship provides educational support, professional development and industry exposure opportunities. Details Value: $6000 AUD over 1 year (payable in two allocations of $3000 in each semester) There is one individual scholarship available. 2 Eligibility To be eligible for the AFGC Food Science Second year Scholarship, an applicant must: Be able to be classified as an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident; be a domestic student within the meaning of the Fee Rules; and Be enrolled as a full-time second year student in Food Science, Food Engineering and/ or Food Technology courses in their second year of a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering program at The University of Queensland in 2016; Have completed their first year of an undergraduate Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering degree and obtained a GPA (Grade Point Average) of 5.5 or higher on a scale of 7. Selection process Applications will be assessed by a selection committee made up of the: The Australian Food and Grocery Council Chair, Head of School of Chemical Engineering, or their nominee, Head of School of Agriculture and Food Sciences or their nominee, A Senior Representative of the Australian Food and Grocery Council. The selection committee will review applicants grades, in conjunction with the responses contained in the official application form. Considerations for the award of scholarships will be based on academic merit and the responses contained in the application form. UQ reserves the right to prioritise specific study areas in the selection process. The Selection Panel s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Wherever possible, applicants will be notified within one month of the scholarship closing date of the result of their application. Obligations of scholarship recipients Successful applicants must: Enrol in fulltime studies in Semester 1, 2016 in Bachelor of Engineering or integrated Bachelor of Engineering / Master of Engineering (Chemical with a minor in Food Engineering), Bachelor of Science (majoring in Food Science) and/ or Bachelor of Food Technology. Diligently and to the best of their ability apply themselves to the successful completion of their program of study. Remain enrolled full time and in good academic standing in their approved achieving a GPA of 5.5 or more in their program for the academic year. The scholarship is not transferable to another program of study or another University. Students who change their program or major of study from Bachelor of Engineering or integrated Bachelor of Engineering / Master of Engineering (Chemical with a minor in Food Engineering), Bachelor of Science (majoring in Food Science or Food Science & Nutrition) and/ or Bachelor of Food Technology will forfeit their scholarship. Where a student withdraws or is excluded from their program of study, they will become ineligible for continuation of the scholarship. Unless exceptional circumstances can be demonstrated, students who withdraw from studies after the census date, or who are excluded from studies, may be required to repay the cash payment awarded for the semester. Determination of exceptional circumstances shall be at the discretion of the Selection Panel. Conform to University regulations (including disciplinary provisions). Promote Food Science, Food Engineering and/ or Food Technology at events such as UQ Open days, TSXPO or other education promotional events. -2-

3 Invitation to the AFGC s Highlands Senior Executive Forum 2016 : the pre-eminent forum providing an opportunity for members from the Australasian food, beverage and grocery manufacturing sector and supply companies to network with colleagues and peers from across the industry from the retailing sector. Notification in writing to the Australian Food and Grocery Council Chair is required if the student: Wishes to defer, transfer, or withdraw from the approved program. Wishes to apply for an extension. Payment Payment of scholarships is conditional on scholarship recipients meeting the obligations outlined above, as applicable at the payment date. Payment will be made after the academic census date in each of the first two semesters of study (after March 31, 2016 for semester 1; after August 31, 2016 for semester 2) according to the schedule below: 1 Scholarship Total Value AUD $6,000 only Payment 1: Semester One Payment 2: Semester Two of study AUD $3,000 of study - AUD $3,000 After April 4, 2016 After September 2, 2016 Payments will be made into the recipient s nominated Australian bank account. Taxation Generally scholarship money paid to full-time students is not treated as taxable income. For specific or expert advice, please contact the Australian Taxation Office or an Accountant about your personal circumstances. Notification The successful applicant will be notified in writing by the AFGC Chairperson or a nominated representative of The School of Agriculture and Food Sciences. Communications/publicity Successful applicants will be asked to provide testimonials outlining the impact that winning a scholarship opportunity has made to their career interest and future studies in Food Science, Food Engineering and/ or Food Technology at UQ. They agree for their image and a summary profile to be distributed via print and electronic means to prospective students, media and education agents to acknowledge their success. Recipients will be asked to speak about their AFGC Scholarship experience to prospective students promoting Food Science, Food Engineering and/ or Food Technology programs.
