1 GENERAL GUIDELINES ECDA - CHILD CARE SCHOLARSHIP FOR MASTER IN EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION (2012/2013) The ECDA - Child Care Scholarship for Master in ECCE (Part-time) is tenable at: National Institute of Education: Master of Education (Early Childhood) ( ) 1. Benefits of Scholarship ECDA - Child Care scholarships will cover the following components: Course fee 1 (unsubsidized portion of the course fee) Learning resource allowance (once-off) to the recipient Subsidy to the centre for engaging relief teacher when recipient takes paid leave to complete assignments/study/attend examinations (for the whole course) Cash award to the recipient upon successful completion of course 2. Eligibility Criteria Be a programme staff registered 2 with ECDA, certified at the L2 Level and currently employed with a child care centre licensed by ECDA, with at least 5 years of relevant pre-school or child care experience; Must have assumed or currently holding leadership roles/responsibilities in the pre-school sector; Be Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident aged 21 years old and above at point of application; Recommended by the Child Care Centre; Must not concurrently hold or be serving out their bond for any other scholarship, bursary or funding; and Must be accepted by the training provider into the course/ programme selected. In addition, nominees must also possess: 1 Refer to respective agencies website for course fee details. If there is a difference in course fee for a PR and a Singapore Citizen, ECDA Child Care s scholarship quantum will be capped at the maximum course fee payable for a Citizen. 2 A registered teacher would have a Letter of Notification (LON) issued by ECDA (or MCYS) or MOE Page 1

2 Academic Requirements National Institute of Education: Master of Education (Early Childhood) A good Bachelor s degree in any discipline from a recognized University <AND> GCE 'A' level with two passes (prior to 2006) or two H2 passes (from 2006) + at least a GCE O Level B4 in EL1 (or at least a C6 in EL1 + IELTS 6.5)+PQAC accredited Diploma in Preschool Teaching (DPE-T), or Local Polytechnic Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) + 5 GCE 'O' level credits including at least a B4 in EL1 (or at least a C6 in EL1 + IELTS 6.5), or Local Polytechnic Diploma (non-ece) + PQAC accredited Diploma in Pre-school Teaching (DPE-T) + 5 GCE 'O' level credits including at least a B4 in EL1 (or at least a C6 in EL1 + IELTS 6.5). 3. Tenure of Scholarship The Scholarship shall be tenable for 18 months for SEED MSc and 30 months for NIE MEd, subject to the nominee s good conduct and progress. 4. Conditions of Scholarship Child care centres of successful nominees and nominees will have to sign an undertaking with ECDA, and with the nominating Child care centre. For continuance of the Scholarship, nominees will be required to complete the course successfully according to the following requirements: Course grades Duration to complete course Bond period during the course Bond period (upon completion of course) Minimum Attendance Other conditions NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION [MEd(EC)] minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3, equivalent to grade B for every semester of the course To complete the course within a maximum of 30 months Remain at the nominating child care centre for the whole duration of the course Remain in the child care sector for 2 years upon completion of the course 80% for each course/module Successful complete and fulfill all required academic conditions stipulated by the training provider Page 2
