Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Brand Identity Guidelines Manual
Introduction The Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Brand Identity Guidelines Manual has been developed to present a simple and clear explanation of how to use the brand and maximize visibility of the logo. By understanding and following these brand guidelines, OFSAA will achieve greater consistency throughout all communications materials. The greater consistency of logos, colours and apparel, the greater identification of the brand. OFSAA s corporate image is one of its most valuable assets. It shapes the way the organization is perceived by the public. Over time, consistent use of the identity will become familiar to staff, suppliers, volunteers, students, member associations and will be synonymous with the quality and level of services provided by OFSAA. OFSAA s Brand Identity Guidelines Manual provides criteria on how to use the OFSAA logo and how to build brand consistency. The following apply to all aspects of OFSAA s brand identity: 1. The OFSAA logo cannot be altered in any way. 2. To preserve the integrity of the OFSAA logo, it must not be combined with any other elements to create a new symbol or image. 3. The colours of the official logo cannot be altered or substituted. If you have any questions about the Brand Identity Guidelines Manual, or for uses not covered in this manual, contact: Devin Gray, Communications and Marketing Coordinator or devin@ofsaa.on.ca. Electronic versions of the logo and this manual are available at This manual is for the use of OFSAA employees, host committees, volunteers, member associations, community partners and suppliers.

1 Logo Symbol Version 1: Full Logo Wordmark Version 2: Symbol and Wordmark Version 3: Symbol Name spelled out in full (bilingual) 1.1 Logo Elements There are three versions of the OFSAA logo. To maintain its visual integrity, the logo must always appear in one of these three formats. Version 1: The full logo. OFSAA s full logo contains the symbol (trillium in the O), wordmark (OFSAA) and the words underneath (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations / Federation des Associations du Sport Scholaire de l Ontario). The size and relationship among these elements has been predetermined and should not be altered. The words underneath must always be printed in capital letters in the official typeface. Version 2: The symbol and wordmark. This logo is printed without the words underneath and can be used when the area is too small to print the full logo, as outlined in this document. See page 4 for information on minimum logo size. Version 3: The symbol. The logo symbol may appear as a stand-alone image on OFSAA merchandise as outlined in this document (ie. shirts and hats). See page 9 for details. It may also be used as a stand-alone symbol in OFSAA publications, website, brochures and advertisements. The full logo should be used wherever possible to reiterate OFSAA s full name and acronym. It is to be used on letterhead, championship websites, in school and OFSAA championship programs, in newspapers (advertisements and articles) and promotional material (merchandise, posters, signage, banners, etc.) The logo must follow the colour standards prescribed in this manual. 1
Recommended Formats 1. Full logo with printed words underneath 2. Symbol and wordmark without printed words underneath 3. Symbol 1.3 Alternative Formats 4. Logo with or without printed words underneath in black 5. Logo with or without printed words underneath in white 6. Symbol in black 7. Symbol in white Please note that the full-colour logo should always be used when printed on a light-coloured background. It may also be printed black in publications to keep printing costs down. For printing on darker backgrounds use the white logo, although the full-colour logo may be used on a black background. For one-colour printing, the logo should be printed in either white (on a dark background) or black (on a light background). It can not be printed in other colours (ie. host institution colours). Note: The logo in the background above is to show an example of the white logo. The logo should not be printed in a coloured box. 2
OFSAA Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Federation des Associations du Sport Scolaire de l Ontario 1.4 Logo Violations 1. Do not print the logo on a busy background, even if the logo is white. 2. Do not put the logo on a coloured background that will conflict with the colours in the logo. If using a dark-coloured background the best alternative is to use a white logo. 3. Do not use any other colour for the logo other than black, white or official colours. 4. Do not switch the logo colours. The wordmark must be the official blue and the trillium must be the official red. 5. Do not add any effects to the logo, such as bevel, emboss, drop shadow, etc. 6. Do not stretch or distort the logo. 7. Do not move the trillium out of the O in the logo. The trillium must always be printed inside the O. 8. Do not use another font for the logo. The logo and words underneath must always be printed in the official font. Do not change the capitalization of the words underneath. 3
Recommended minimum full logo size Recommended minimum symbol size.375 (3/8 ) minimum reproduction size 1.75 (1 3/4 ) minimum reproduction size Recommended minimum symbol and wordmark size 1 minimum reproduction size 1.5 Sizes for Reproduction The minimum size for reproducing the full logo (with words underneath) is 1.75 (1 3/4 ) wide. There is no limit to the maximum size of the logo. It is recommended that the full logo with the words underneath be used wherever possible. The symbol and wordmark alone (without the words underneath) may be printed smaller, to a minimum size of 1. The symbol may be printed to a minimum size of.375 (3/8 ) The legibility of the words underneath and the overall sharpness of the logo should never be compromised. The dimensions on all reproductions of the logo must remain to scale. The logo can never appear skewed or stretched. Please note that the size of the logo will depend on the product (ie. pens vs. banners). If you have any questions, contact Devin Gray. 4

3 Championship Logos 3.1 Recommended Guidelines These are sample designs for championship logos. These examples do not conflict with OFSAA s logo guidelines. All championship logos must include OFSAA s official logo. It can be used with or without the words printed underneath, but must conform to the recommended formats outlined on page 2. All championship logos must include the OFSAA logo printed in its official colours. Black and white versions are also permitted where applicable. The OFSAA logo should not appear in any other colours, including host institution colours. Schools are still encouraged to be as creative as possible when designing championship logos, but OFSAA s official logo cannot be altered. Note: No other logos besides OFSAA s official logo should appear in the championship logo. If there is a title sponsor or an outside company handling the logo design, their logo must remain separate from the championship logo. Notice in the examples above the logo has enough clear space surrounding it to maintain its separate brand. There should not be other text or images crowding the logo. 6
1 OFSAA BADMINTON Championship Logo Violations 1. All championship logos must include the OFSAA logo, either with or without the words printed underneath. Do not just type OFSAA. 2. Do not substitute letters with sports equipment. No other graphics should appear in the OFSAA logo. 3. Do not put another logo besides OFSAA s logo in the championship logo, unless they are a title sponsor (and in this case, it should say presented by ). If an outside company is handling the logo or T-shirt design, their logo must remain separate from the championship logo. 7
4 Merchandise 4.1 Embroidery and Screening The use of the OFSAA logo in embroidery and screening must be consistent with all other applications, and conform to the guidelines on page 2. Above are examples of appropriate use of OFSAA s logo on clothing. The full logo must be at least 3 wide when embroidered on apparel (including on hats). If it is smaller, an alternative format of the logo must be used (logo without the words underneath or the symbol alone). Examples of both are shown above. When the logo is screened onto apparel, the full logo may be used up to a minimum size of 1.75 (1 3/4 ). If it must be smaller, it must be printed without the words underneath. When applying the logo to hats, the logo should be positioned front and centre (as shown in the example above). It can be printed with or without the words underneath, or as the symbol alone (as shown above on the back of the hat). The logo can either be stitched directly onto the fabric, or screened onto the fabric (usually on sweatshirts, T-shirts, and other merchandise besides clothing). To obtain an embroidery tape of the OFSAA logo, please contact Devin Gray. The logo on OFSAA merchandise must only appear in white, black or the official OFSAA colours (see page 5). The full-colour logo should be used on a light-coloured background (white, tan, light blue, pale yellow, etc), or a black background (as shown in the hats above). If the logo is on a dark-coloured background, or a background that will conflict with the colours in the logo, a white logo should be used for optimum legibility. 8
