1 Module Introduction PURPOSE: The intent of this module is to provide an overview of CodeWarrior Linux Tools and Solutions and the Linux product strategy. OBJECTIVES: Identify the CodeWarrior Linux Tools and Solutions Describe CodeWarrior Linux product strategy Identify the components of this strategy CONTENT: 10 pages 2 questions LEARNING TIME: 20 minutes Welcome to the module on Embedded Linux Tools and Solutions. This module explains how Freescale has streamlined Linux development with Embedded Linux Tools and Solutions a completely integrated embedded Linux environment that supports development from board bring-up all the way through to the final testing and certification process. 1

2 Why CodeWarrior? Single resource for tools and support Support from conception to market Complete Solution: With CodeWarrior, developers no longer need to rely on several different resources for tools and support. Less time is wasted dwelling on hardware, OS, and development board issues. More time is spent on creating custom applications. Here you can see a list of some of the tools. CodeWarrior s complete solution includes tools for Hardware bring up, System/Kernel development, Application development, along with Test and Certification. Freescale also provides solutions for handheld and portable devices, including OpenPDA, PowerParts embedded GUI, and CodeWarrior for Sharp Zaurus. 2

Target Wizard Tools Used to manage, configure, extend, build, and deploy traditional open source Linux software elements. CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Used to manage projects, create, build, and debug your value added software, which sits on top of the open source foundation. Board Support Package(s) Includes all of the elements that are required to build, deploy, and debug the operating system, device drivers, and applications on specific hardware reference platforms. Other Features Package Editor Debian Binary Import Tool Linux Kernel Import Tool GNU Tool Importer Platform Creation Suite (PCS) for Embedded Linux OS is a full-featured, integrated development tool suite that targets multiple processor families. Linux Board Support Packages (BSPs) are available for several boards within the ARM, Coldfire, MIPS, PowerPC, SH, and x86 architectures. Platform Creation Suite (PCS) eliminates hardware, OS, and development board issues. It also gives silicon and board vendors the ability to capture their in-house Linux efforts into their own BSP that is fully integrated with PCS. Free Linux BSPs are available and include device drivers and applications for specific target hardware with all of the required host and target elements. 3

This Windows hosted version of development tools incorporates a Linux industry standard GNU compiler, linker, and assembler utilities, and the latest CodeWarrior debugger technology. These are all accessible from within the CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Designed for embedded Linux developers, the CodeWarrior solution gives programmers access to all aspects of system development. You can create/build loadable modules, file systems, and applications all from within one development environment. It also provides advanced hardware developers the ability to do stopmode kernel-level debugging of the Linux kernel using RDI.
