3 Admission for exchange students Contact your International Relations Office in order to find if a bilateral agreement have been made between our two institutions. Then, please respect the following procedure. Pre-Application Form: Must be filled online, your application will be complete only once we receive the hard copy of the Student Application Form with the required documents. 4 Administrative formalities You are a citizen of the European Union or of an associated nation (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland)? All you need is a valid passport or valid national identity card, a residence permit (carte de séjour) is not required for your stay. You are citizen of a candidate country to the European Union (Croatia, Turkey)? If you stay in France for less than 3 months then all you need is a valid passport or a national identity card. If you stay in France more than 3 months, you must have a passport and a visa type D requiring that you get a residence permit soon after your arrival. You are not a citizen of one of the above countries? If you stay in France for less than 3 months then all you need is a valid passport and a visa proclaiming that for the time being you do not have to get a residence permit. Contact the French consulate in your country. How to apply for a residence permit? After your arrival in Nantes, the International Relations Office of Oniris will help you through the application process. Although, please note that the following documents will be necessary: Passport Student visa D Proof of financial means Proof of residence in Nantes Four recent and identical passport size photos Certificate of inscription to Oniris and student identity card Stamped addressed envelope (to your address in Nantes) Birth certificate 4 Student Guide - Oniris

5 Bank Account Oniris recommends you to open a bank account in France, especially if you apply for the Caisse d Allocation Familliale (a financial housing aid from the government). The International Relations Office will advise you how to get your bank account opened upon arrival. Health Insurance Health Insurance cover is compulsory for all residents in France; except for the European students (including students from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) who only have to present their own health card. Health Insurance allows you to be reimbursed for part of your health expenses. Oniris recommends you to get a complementary insurance policy in order to be entirely reimbursed. We also require for you to subscribe a civil liability insurance which is included in the university insurance that we ask you to take. The subscription costs around 12 euros. Accommodation Oniris has an agreement with the CROUS (Student s life services which takes care of all the universities residences) with limited number of rooms reserved for our prospective students. Unfortunately, we are unable to meet everyone s need due to the shortage of student s accommodation in Nantes therefore it is highly recommended that you book with us before May 15 (for both autumn and spring semester). How does a room in a university residence look like? Usually the proposed rooms are of 9m 2 with sanitary, they are equipped with a refrigerator, a bed, a desk, a chair and a closet. 6 How to get housing aid? Also, you can apply for housing aid at the CAF (Caisse d Allocation Familiale) which is calculated according to your income. You can register online. Documents to provide: Photocopy of birth certificate and photocopy of passport / ID card Photocopy of your French student card Photocopy of your health insurance card A relevé d'identité bancaire (given when opening a bank account) A sworn declaration to state that you have sufficient finances to cover your year of study in Nantes Certificate of university residence or rent certificate filled by your landlord if you are in a house-share. The city of Nantes has a large public transport network, to obtain a bus/tram pass allowing you to use it you will have to subscribe to the TAN company. The subscription costs around 30 euros per month. All shops and businesses are closed on Sunday, except for a few of them that will open only in the morning. Smoking is forbidden in public places; breaking this law makes you liable to a fine. This law also applies to Oniris facilities. Internet access: all of Oniris facilities are equipped with wireless. Do not hesitate to contact Oniris Student Union which organizes various activities: If you want to know what there is to do in Nantes check the Office du Tourisme website: Students usually get a discount in most restaurants, cinemas, museums; theaters do not forget to bring your student identity card whenever you go out. 8 Student Guide - Oniris
