During your stay in Angers, you are required to have a health insurance and an employment injury and occupational disease insurance. Health insurance There are many options depending on what your status is : check the chart below for more information. The French health insurance system The French health system offers health coverage for everyone. You may join the health insurance system through the General system (for employees), the Student system (for students) or CMU (universal health insurance coverage). General system (for employees) If you receive a salary, you qualify for the General system and are automatically registered with the CPAM. Funding is ensured through contributions paid by employers and employees. Contributions by employees are automatically paid through employers. You have to go to the CPAM on your arrival with the following documents: Passport or ID card Birth certificate RIB (bank account details) Work contract and last three pay slips Residency permit (when applicable) Student system (for students) Students coming from a country outside the European economic space 1, who do not receive a salary, are less than 28 years old on the first day of October of the running academic year, and enrolled at the University of Angers, should register with one of the following : - La Mutuelle des Etudiants (LMDE), - la Société Mutualiste des Etudiants Bretagne Atlantique (SMEBA) Affiliation to the health insurance system is done when you register at the University of Angers. Registration is valid from September 1st to August 31st of the same academic year. Affiliation to the system is not free of charge. Payment should be made at the same time as you pay the university fees. 1 Member Countries of the European economic space : the 27 countries of the European Union plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein

2 You have to go to the LMDE or SMEBA on your arrival with the following documents: Birth certificate Copy of your passport Residency permit (when applicable) RIB (bank account number certificate) "Declaration of attending physician" form CMU (Universal Health Insurance Coverage) You may request affiliation to the CMU (Universal health insurance coverage). The CMU allows you to obtain partial refunds for medical care and medications. CAUTION: The basic CMU coverage is available only if you stay more than three months. Bilateral agreements covering health matters There may be a bilateral agreement between France and your home country. Please refer to the agreement for more information on health matters. List of bilateral agreements : Private health insurance If you cannot join the French health insurance system as an employee or a student, you may contact a private health insurance company. There are insurance policies which suit the needs of foreign people doing research in France (More information is given below in this information sheet).

4 Employment injury and occupational disease insurance You may also be covered for employment injuries and occupational diseases through : - The General health insurance system (for employees) - The Student health insurance system - The CMU (universal health insurance coverage) - Provisions in matters of employment injuries and occupational diseases covered by bilateral conventions signed by France and your home country - Private insurance policies Supplementary health insurance The CPAM repays only a percentage of medical costs. We strongly recommend that you take out a supplementary health insurance policy, what we call a «mutuelle» in France. Civil liability insurance Civil liability insurance protects you in case of damage caused to other people (to people, animals or objects) by yourself or people or animals under your care. Repatriation insurance This type of insurance contract provides you with repatriation coverage, for you or members of your family. House and apartment insurance This type of insurance contract protects you from claims in case of damage (fire, flood...). Such insurance may also include civil liability insurance provisions.
