2 Trip Name: World War One, Battlefields Trip Leader: Miss Steward Dates: 31 March 3 April 2017 Open to Students: 30 places available. Initially students in Year 9 from September 2016 This trip offers students a truly unique opportunity to build on their learning in History as part of their studies on World War One. The trip also allows the student to go far beyond the mere academic appreciation of this event but it also highlights the social and emotional impacts such an event had on the people and the nations of Europe. Every year three students have also been given the opportunity to lay a memorial wreath on behalf of Jack Hunt and Peterborough at the Menin Gate in Ypres. This is the only location in the world where there is a memorial ceremony every single day of the year. This is an internationally attended event and is a great honour. Students will also develop skills in independence and co-operation and have opportunities to practice their language skills. This applies to students born in the UK and those born outside of the UK who are British citizens. However, students who are EU Nationals and do not have British citizenship will need their own passport. Students born outside of the EU, without British citizenship, will also need to travel on their own passport, they will also need to give verification of their right to remain in the UK and the school will apply on their behalf for students to be placed on the British Council's Traveller's List, however this application process can only go ahead 2 weeks before we travel. 3 China Exchange Trip Leader: Mr Smith Trip Mr Barwise Name: Dates: Easter and June/July 2017 Open to Students: 20 places available. Initially students in Year 8, 9 and 10 A successful exchange visit which provides your son/daughter the opportunity to be host to a Chinese penfriend and in return experience first-hand the life, culture and language of China. The Exchange is designed to challenge our students, before and during the visit. Activities include learning Mandarin, fundraising to help towards the cost of the trip, sampling Chinese food and leading a sports festival and English lessons in Shanghai. Part 1 Jack Hunt Students to China (Easter 2017) Our students will stay at the Golden Apple School and spend two days in a Chinese home. Students will spend time in school or on day excursions and with the host family. Part 2 Chinese students to England (possibly June/July 2017) Time for our students to host their Chinese pen-friend in their home (approximately to days). During the Exchange time will be spent in school or on day excursions and with the host family. You will be required to accommodate and cater for a Chinese student. Acceptance on the Exchange is conditional upon a sound record of good conduct and attendance. 4 Trip Name: Trip to Spain (location tbc) Trip Leader: Mr Mandin Miss McGuiggan Dates: March 2017 Open to Students: Initially students studying Spanish in Key Stage 3 A new venture for Jack Hunt School in a very popular region for school trips. This is an opportunity for students to experience the Spanish culture and improve their speaking skills. This visit is 4 days and 3 nights (accommodation on a full board basis). Our programme is currently being finalised and final information will be given at the information evening. 5 Trip Name: Paris (Language/Art) Trip Leader: Mr Mandin Mr Raine Dates: 6-10 June 2017 (provisional) Open to Students: Students studying French and/or Art Year 10 and 12 A research visit to Paris in order to give students first-hand experience of the cultural aspects of learning a language, practicing speaking skills in real situations and writing a diary which could be adapted towards a written French controlled assessment. For students studying Art we will visit famous museums and see work from some well-known artists such as Monet. We will also have a day excursion to Versailles and cruise on the River Seine and a visit to the Arc de Triomphe. MFL Year 12 students will do one of their Cultural Dossier whilst in Paris (Monet - his life, influences on the artist, techniques and an appraisal of his work OR Paris - it s cultural and economic influence, geographical influences, history of the region and population changes in the last 20 years). There will be a visit to Notre Dame. Year 10 students will be completing one controlled assessment and gaining speaking practice to support language development. 6 Trip Name: Skiing Trip Trip Leader: Mr Cooke Dates: 18 to 25 February 2017 Open to Students: Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 Ski trip to France, Italy, Austria or Andorra venue to be confirmed. We are currently finalising arrangements to run a ski trip during the February half-term 2017 ie. Saturday 18 February to Saturday 25 February). The trip will include 5 days skiing with ski lessons each day, full ski equipment hire, lift passes and evening activities. Travel arrangements to be confirmed. Full board accommodation.
