3 SQL Server 2008 Installation Guide Step 1. Download SQL Server 2008/2008 from MSDNAA site, using your own student credentials: a. Step 2. Start installation by executing setup.exe file on the SQL Server 2008 installation disc. Figure 1. SQL Server Installation Center Planning page Step 3. On the left menu, as show on Figure 1, select Installation. The SQL Server Installation Center will show Installation page. See Figure 2. Figure 2. Wait until the Setup Support Rules checks the computer for installation problems. Press OK.

8 Step 13. Click Next. Figure 11. Installation chekcup for selected features Step 14. Select Default instance if you never installed SQL Server. If you want to have more than one SQL Server instance, you must choose Named Instance because they must have different names. Click Next.

9 Step 15. Click Next. Step 16. Select Network Service for SQL Server Agent and for Database Engine.

10 Step 17. Select Mixed Mode. Enter a strong password for sa user, and add current user as administrator (assuming that the current user is a trusted one). Step 18. Click Next.

12 Step 21. Click Close to finish the installation.

13 Configure SQL Server Set TCP protocol and set the default port to 1433 Step 1. Execute SQL Server Configuration Manager that is located at Configuration Tools at the SQL Server program files folder Step 2. At SQL Server Network Configuration, select Protocols for XXXXXX where XXXXX is the name of your sql server or MSSQLSERVER if is an unnamed instance. Step 3. Double click on the right panel over TCP/IP and set Yes to Enabled.

14 Step 4. Click on the IP Addresses tab and scroll down until you find IPAll. Leave an empty string on TCP Dynamic Ports and 1433 to TCP Port. Click OK. Step 5. The SQL Server service must be restarted. Click Ok. Step 6. To restart the service, select SQL Server Services on the left panel, right click mouse over the SQL Server (XXXXX) where XXXXX is the name of the instance, and select Restart.

15 Starting SQL Server and database creation Step 1. To start using SQL Server, find SQL Server Management Studio on your Programs form Start Menu and open it. Step 2. If you can t log in please check the following causes: a. If you used a week password, please login with Autentication:Windows Authentication, change the sa password and disable Force password policy b. If you installed the SQL Server Express, please write on the Server name: localhost\sqlexpress Step 3. It s necessary to ensure that the SQL Server is configured to accept remote connections. Click right mouse over the instance and select properties. Step 4. Select Connections and set the Allow remote connections to this server. Click Ok.

16 Step 5. Click right mouse over databases folder and select Create a new database Step 6. Name the new dadabase SI1 and click OK.

17 Step 7. Select database SI1 and click New Query.

18 Step 8. Write your SQL and press F5 over the select text to execute. Create table Aluno( numero int identity primary key, nome varchar(100)) Insert into aluno values('zé') Insert into aluno values('ana')

19 Install JDBC Step 1. Download the JDBC driver type 4 from the following site Step 2. Extract the zip file, copy the following files to a known folder, for example c:\jdbc sqljdbc_ _enu\sqljdbc_3.0\enu\sqljdbc4.jar sqljdbc_ _enu\sqljdbc_3.0\enu\auth\x(64 or 32)\sqljdbc_auth.dll

20 Eclipse Step 1. Please ensure that you have the latest jdk installed. You can download it from html Step 2. Download Eclipse from Step 3. Execute the Eclipse.exe and choose a folder to save the work you will do.

21 Step 4. To Add a new Java Project, from File menu, select New and Java Project. Step 5. Type the name for the project. In this case we want to read the students that were inserted on previous steps.

22 Step 6. Select the tab Libraries and click on the button Add External Jars.

23 Step 7. To add the JDBC driver, choose the file that was downloaded to C:\jdbc and click open when sqljdbc4.jar file is selected.

24 Step 8. To use Windows Integrated Authentication that is used when SQL Server was configured only on Windows Authentication or the user configured to access database is a Windows User, it s necessary add the sqljdbc_auth.dll to java.library.path. Expand the sqljdbc4.jar and select Native library location. Click on the Edit button.

25 Step 9. Write the path were the sqljdbc_auth.dll files was saved. And click Ok. Step 10. Click on the Finish button to finish the project definition.

26 Step 11. To add a new class to the project, right mouse click over the ReadTableAluno project and select New and Class.

27 Step 12. Type the packaged name and the class name. Please select public static void main(string[] args)

29 Step 15. Change the instance name if you have installed a named instance, or remove instancename=sqlserver1; from the string url. Step 16. Change the content of the password string with the sa s password that you entered on SQL Server installation, or comment that line and uncomment the url for integrated authentication. Step 17.
