Microsoft Share Point Server WSUS (though it s not officially unsupported, we have seen issues in some environments) Recommended Install the TimeForce application and all the utilities to their default locations. Set Data Execution Prevention (DEP) to Essential Windows Programs Only. Turn User Account Control (UAC) to the lowest setting. Use the MS SQL sa user to install, update and run the database. 2. Update to a Migration Compatible Version Determine the Database Build Version Before you start migrating TimeForce, you must determine the build version of your database. 1. Login to TimeForce as an Admin. 2. Click on the Admin Tab 3. The Version box in the upper-right corner will tell you the current Build. If the build number is or greater you can skip the rest of this section, otherwise you will need to update to a build that is compatible with our newest updates. If your build number is xxxx or lower you will need to download and run the update on the current TimeForce server. Follow the steps below to update the Database before moving it. Obtaining Updates You can obtain the update at https://securefile.qqest.com/. You will need the following credentials to log in: Username: qftp Password: b1urr3 Choose the TimeForce 1 folder, then 2.8, then Update. Download the file called TimeForce_ _Full.exe from this directory.

Installing the Update Once you have finished downloading this file to your TimeForce Server you can now run it as an Administrator to start the update process. As a general rule we always recommend backing up your database before running an update (see section 3 for instructions on backing up the database). 1. Run the TimeForce_ _Full.exe update. 2. Click the Next and Yes buttons until you reach the Setup Type screen. 3. Select Custom Installation and click Next. The installer lists Typical Setup as the recommended procedure but for this procedure we recommend you actually use Custom Installation, as it will ensure you are using the correct SQL database credentials. 4. In the Setup Type screen select Update TimeForce Program Files and Upgrade TimeForce Database then click Next. If you have a split install then choose only to update the Program Files on the Web server and only to update the Database on the Database server. 5. You will now be presented with the TimeForce SQL Database Advance Setup screen. Under the Computer field, type the Computer name of the Database server. Under Instance, type the name of the SQL instance that the Qqest database is attached to (the default is TIMEFORCE). Click Next. 6. Leave the database name set to Qqest then click Next. 7. On the next screen type the username, password, and confirm the password for your SQL admin account. Our default install credentials are listed below. Username: sa Password: Dr8gedog (or dr8gedog) 8. Next you will be asked for the destination folder of the TimeForce program files. We don t recommend changing this path 9. Finally you will be asked for the IP address of your TimeForce web server. Type the IP Address of the TimeForce web server and click Next. The loopback IP address may auto populate, this is acceptable for the software configuration of a single point install. However for some hardware configurations and all split installs the actual IP address of the web server must be used. Because of this we recommend you use the actual IP address of your web server. 10. When the InstallShield Wizard completes, click the finish button.

Note: The update can take over 2 hours to complete. 3. Database Backup In order to transfer all of your company data to a new computer you need to prepare your database for transfer. You have two possible ways of doing this; a backup file (.bak) created by SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), or a manual database copy. We recommend the first option as the file that must be transferred will be much smaller, however we will detail both procedures below. SQL Server Management Studio SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) is a database tool that comes bundled with our default install of TimeForce. The following steps will detail how to use this tool to create a backup of your database for transfer to another computer. 1. Launch SSMS, you can find it under the Start Menu > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (or 2005) > SQL Management Studio. 2. Login to SSMS Server type should be Database Engine. Server Name should be COMPUTERNAME\INSTANCE (so if your computer name is QSS2646D1 and TimeForce is installed in our default TIMEFORCE instance you would type QSS2646D1\TIMEFORCE). Authentication should be SQL Server Authentication. The default Login is sa. The default password is Dr8gedog (or dr8gedog). If your install is different please enter accordingly.

2. Expand the Server\Instance by clicking the + next to it then expand Databases the same way. Right click on Qqest, choose Tasks then choose Back Up. 3. In the Destination section, select Back up to: Disk. 4. Make sure that there is a valid name and path for the file. You can change the backup location and filename by using the Add and Remove buttons. Note that the Network Service account must have full control permission on the directory you backup your database to and may result in an Access Denied error if it does not.

5. Once you have chosen a destination and file name, click OK to begin the backup. Once the backup is completed successfully click Ok and close SSMS. 6. Locate the file in the location you chose for your backup and copy it to the new Database server. Manual Database Copy Instead of creating a backup of your database you can instead make a direct copy of your database. If you choose to do so you must first stop the SQL service the database is attached to, the files cannot be copied successfully while this service is running. 1. Open the Services console, by choosing search or run from the start menu and then typing services.msc and pressing Enter. You can also right-click on Computer, chooses mange from the options, expand Services and Applications and click on Services. 2. Select the SQL Server service in which TimeForce is running (MSSQL$TIMEFORCE or SQL Server (TIMEFORCE) by default), right click and choose stop.

3. Next browse to the location that your database files are stored. Copy both the Qqest05_Data.mdf and the Qqest05_log.ldf to your new Server. The Database files may be named Qqest_Data.mdf and Qqest_log.ldf. Note that the location of these files will be dependent on the SQL version and your operating system. 4. Installing Internet Information Services (IIS) Internet Information Services (IIS) is a Web Server service included with Microsoft Windows operating systems, however, is not installed by default. IIS must be installed prior to installing the TimeForce application. Windows XP Professional/Windows Server 2003 (IIS 5.1/6.0) Note: This step may require your Windows Installation CD. 1. Open the Control Panel and click on Add or Remove Programs. 2. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components. 3. Check Internet Information Services (IIS) in the Components window and click Next. 4. Allow the Windows Components Wizard to complete the installation then click Finish.

Windows Vista/ Windows 7 (IIS 7.0/7.5) Note: This step may require your Windows Installation CD. 1. Open the Control Panel and click Programs. 2. Under Programs and Features, click Turn Windows Features on or off. 3. In the Turn Windows Features on or off dialog enable: Internet Information Services 4. Expand Internet Information Services. 5. Expand Web Management Tools and enable: IIS Management Console 6. Expand IIS 6 Management Compatibility and enable: IIS 6 WMI Compatibility IIS Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility 7. Expand World Wide Web Services. 8. Expand Application Development Features and enable:.net Extensibility ASP ASP.NET CGI ISAPI Extensions ISAPI Filters 9. Expand Common HTTP Features and enable: Default Document Directory Browsing HTTP Errors HTTP Redirection Static Content 10. After all features are selected, click OK and wait for Windows to finish installing the features. Windows Server 2008 R1/Windows Server 2008 R2 (IIS 7.0/7.5) Note: This step may require your Windows Installation CD. 1. Open Control Panel and under Programs click on Turn Windows features on or off. This will open the Server Manager window. 2. Under Roles Summary, you will see a list of installed Roles. 3. If IIS is already installed you will see Web Server (IIS).

4. If IIS is installed, you can scroll down to the Web Server (IIS) section and check the Role Services to verify the necessary IIS components are installed. 5. Click Add Role Services if you need to add additional features (like ASP) to the Web Server (IIS). 6. If IIS is not installed, click on Add Roles to install it. 7. Click Next on the Add Roles Wizard. 8. Select Web Server (IIS) and click next. 9. Click next again on the Introduction to Web Server (IIS) 10. On the next screen, place checks in the boxes for the Role Services you want installed: Under Common HTTP Features select: o Static Content o Default Document o Directory Browsing o HTTP Errors o HTTP Redirection Under Application Development select: o ASP.NET o.net Extensibility o CGI o ASP o ISAPI Extensions o ISAPI Filters Under Management Tools select: o IIS Management Console Under IIS 6 Management Compatibility select: o IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility o IIS 6 WMI Compatibility 11. Select the option: Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only. If this is already set then you can skip this step and close the dialog boxes. 7. Click OK. This change will prompt for the system to be restarted. 7. Database Restore Now that you have installed TimeForce we need to restore the database you copied over from the old computer. The method for doing this will depend on what method you chose to backup your database with. We will detail both options below. SQL Server Management Studio If you used SSMS to make a backup of your original database and transferred that to the new computer we will use the same program to restore it. 1. First move the backup (.bak) file to a folder that Network Service has full control of. You can use the backup folder in the same location as the newly installed SQL instance or a different folder as long as it has the necessary directory permissions. 2. Launch and log in to SSMS again just as you did in the Database Backup step (refer to section 3 Database Backup). 3. Expand the Server and Databases. 4. If there is already a database named Qqest you will need to detach it. If not, skip to step To detach the Qqest database right click it and choose Task > detach. Check the box that says Drop Connections and click OK.

6. Right-click Databases and choose Restore Database. Type Qqest in the To database: field. Select From device: and click the browse button. 7. Click Add and browse to the location where you placed the backup file. 8. Select that file and choose OK, then choose OK a second time. 9. In the Select the backup sets to restore: list, check the Restore box next to the backup selection. 10. Click Options at the upper left. 11. From this screen check the top box that says, Overwrite the existing database (WITH REPLACE). 12. Click OK to restore your database. Once the restore procedure has successfully been completed, close SSMS. Manual Database Transfer If you chose to copy your database manually then you must attach the files to the SQL instance. 1. Place the database files in the location you want them to be stored. The default location is In the DATA folder within the instance directory of your Microsoft SQL directory; however any folder that allows full control to the Network Service account will work. If your chosen location already contains files of the same name then it is a blank database that was created with your install. See the previous section for the procedure on detaching a database using SQL Server Management Studio if this is the case.

2. Once your database files have been moved to your chosen directory you can attach them to your SQL instance. If you have not yet used SQL Server Management Studio see the Database Backup section for instructions on how to log in. 3. Once logged into SSMS expand the server and then Databases. If there is already a database named Qqest listed here, see the previous section for instructions on detaching a database. Once this is done right click on Databases and choose Attach. 4. Now in the middle of this screen click Add. Browse to the directory where you placed your Qqest_Data.mdf and select it then choose OK, Choose OK again. If SSMS asks you to confirm that you have selected all files then do so. Once the Qqest database is shown beneath databases you may close SSMS. 8. Update to Latest Version Obtaining Updates After your database is restored, you will need to update your Database and Program files to current versions. You can obtain the most recent update from If you do not yet have a login to this site you will need to create one. Your Account ID is required to create a login. If you don t have your Account ID, you can obtain it by calling TimeForce Support at

Once logged in choose Downloads/Updates on the right side and then choose TimeForce in the drop down menu. You must install the TimeForce updates in the proper sequence. TimeForce TimeForce Installing the Update 1. Run the update and choose Yes to continue. 2. Click the Next and Yes buttons until you reach the Setup Type screen. 3. Select Custom Installation and click Next. The installer lists Typical Setup as the recommended procedure but for this procedure we recommend you use Custom Installation, as it will ensure you are using the correct SQL database credentials. 4. In the Setup Type screen select Update TimeForce Program Files and Upgrade TimeForce Database then click Next. However for some hardware configurations

and all split installs the actual IP address of the web server must be used. Because of this we recommend you use the actual IP address of your web server. 10. When the InstallShield Wizard completes, click the finish button. 11. When you finish running the update you must make sure your Timeforce services have started properly. To do this open the services console by choosing search or run from the start menu and then typing services.msc and press enter. Locate TimeForce Advanced Server, TimeForce Punch Processing Queue and TimeForce Punches and insure they are started. 12. If they are not started, right click each service and click Start. 9. Post Migration Tasks After you have completed the migration you may still have a few tasks that need to be completed. You will need to remove TimeForce from the original computer. You may need to uninstall or redirect any clock utilities you run. Finally you may need to distribute the new TimeForce URL to your employees. Remove TimeForce From Original Server To remove Timeforce from your original computer: 1. Uninstall Timeforce from your computer via the Add/Remove programs wizard. 2. Disable the Timeforce SQL instance, using the steps below. Open your services console by click the start menu and choosing run or search, then type services.msc Locate the SQL Server (TIMEFORCE) service, right click this service and choose properties. Click the Stop button, and then change the startup type to Disabled and click ok. If you have no other programs that use SQL Server you may also uninstall SQL Server if you choose. Clock Utilities If you have ClockLink and/or Clock Server on your old Timeforce server and you intend to install them on your new server you should first remove them from the old server. You may do so using the Add/Remove programs wizard. If you intend to leave the clock utilities on your old server for any reason you will need to point them to the new Timeforce server. If the Clock Utilities reside on other computer, you will need to configure them to point to the new TimeForce Server.

Client Shortcuts If you have employees who access TimeForce from another computer, you will need to provide them the new URL to access TimeForce. TimeForce may be accessed via HTTP protocol by computer name or IP address. The proper path for the login screen is /qqest/login/login.net. So if the new TimeForce server s computer name is WebServer and your IP address is , then users on your network can access it at or 10. Common Errors and Troubleshooting The following sections detail some common errors you may experience after a new migration and the solutions to them. Please call Timeforce Technical Support for assistance If you encounter an error that is not listed in this section or if the suggested solution does not resolve it. You can reach Timeforce Technical Support at MSDTC System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: MSDTC on server 'ComputerName\InstanceName' is unavailable. This error occurs when the Distributed Transaction Coordinator services is not started. Change the service's startup type and start the service by following these steps: 1. Open the Run box. 2. Type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. 3. Right-click the Distributed Transaction Coordinator service and select Properties. 4. Set the Startup type to Automatic. 5. Click the button labeled Start to start the service. 6. Click OK Login failed for user 'sa' This means that the SQL username and/or password is incorrect, you will need to rerun the update and ensure you select custom installation. Type in the correct log in credentials for your SQL install.
