4 Beyond Textbooks (BT)
5 Beyond Textbooks (BT) Learning Objectives are introduced at the beginning of the week. For each objective weekly assessments are given. o Standard assessments are given within the time frame to determine student progress. o Common Formative Assessments (CFA) are given to determine mastery. (25 points) o After the CFA is given data is analyzed and students work in groups based on their mastery level. Reteach groups : Any CFA score 15 or below Enrich groups: Any CFA score 20 and above A parallel assessment is given to anyone who scored 20 or below on their CFA.
6 Beyond Textbooks (BT) Extension lessons and standards assessments are available for those students who prove mastery prior to the given time frame

11 Kindergarten Curriculum: Writing & Spelling Penmanship o McGraw-Hill manuscript Spelling o Short/Long vowel words, high frequency words, and words with rules Writing o Write from the Beginning Thinking Maps o Common tools used to map out thinking based on eight cognitive skills
12 Kindergarten Curriculum: Write From The Beginning (WFTB) Overall Goal o Kindergarten students will draw a discernible picture focused on a single event that they have experienced. Details will be reflected in both setting and characters. The story or event in each picture will be communicated through print. This print will vary according to the developmental level of the child.
13 Kindergarten Curriculum: Write From The Beginning (WFTB) Character, setting, event are represented. There is at least one sentence, with inventive spelling, that tells what is happening. Over time, the student will learn that the message is in the print. At this point, the teacher raises the line that separates the picture from the print!
14 Kindergarten Curriculum: Science All Students Kindergarten through 6 th Grade (K-6 th ) will be exploring the basic fundamentals, concepts, and principles of science to include: o Scientific Method (Formulation and validation of Hypothesis with experimentation) o Animal and plant biology o Earth, space, and environmental Science o Geology (Study of different rocks, elements, metals) o Chemistry o Science World o Reading Comprehension

17 DIBELS DIBELS is the acronym for Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills. DIBELS is a set of standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy development. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of prereading and early reading skills. Students are assessed three times throughout the year.
18 Goals of DIBELS Letter naming fluency all three assessments First sound fluency assessed twice Phoneme segmentation fluency assessed twice Nonsense word fluency assessed twice The first time students will be assessed on initial sound fluency and letter naming fluency.
19 PASI PASI is the acronym for Phonological Awareness Screener for Intervention The PASI focuses on proficiency in phonemic awareness so that every child can have the tools to be a successful reader. Some specific skills that we work on are: o Rhyming o Syllables o Categorization o Beginning and Ending sounds o Deletion and Addition of beginning and ending sounds
20 Communication Weekly packets come home on Thursday and contain our weekly learning objectives and graded assessments for the previous week. We use the homework binders as one form of communication home to parents. Please read and remove all papers, excluding homework, nightly. Zipper pouches are reserved for special notes to the teacher and money only. Please do not put pencils or other items in this pouch. They will be removed.
21 Communication Call or if you have questions/concerns. o Classroom phones will not ring into the room during school hours. You are welcome to leave a message. However, please be aware that messages may not be checked until after school. s are preferred and generate a quicker response. Our goal is to respond to all s, phone calls, and notes within 24 hours.

23 Kindergarten Specials Physical Education (P.E.) o 30 minutes, once a week o Please help your child wear appropriate footwear and bring a water bottle when they have P.E. o Activities focus on team work, sportsmanship, personal integrity and fair play. Music o 30 minutes, once a week o Lessons are presented in three-week units with an assessment at the end. o Utilizes interactive white board activities and a variety of engaging songs, instruments, and games.
