4 A brief history a unique approach to business and service In 1922, the late Dr. Mohammed Said Tamer established the first pharmacy in Saudi Arabia, and developed the business to encompass the import and distribution of medicines across the Kingdom. In 1958, the late Dr. Farouk Tamer and Mr. Maamoun Tamer took over management and grew the organization into a leading distributor of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and consumer goods. Since 1985, Group expansion has continued strongly under the third generation extending to local manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and other investments. Today, the Group has established a special position in the Saudi marketplace resulting from a unique approach to business, service, and customer portfolio. Core activities are the import, distribution, marketing and production of pharmaceutical, medical and consumer products, for Saudi Arabia and key markets in the Middle East. The Group serves many of the world s leading companies through various agreements, partnerships and joint ventures. The Group companies are: FM Tamer & Co. a company importing, marketing and distributing pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and consumer goods. Tamer Industries Co. a company investing in industrial projects related to healthcare and consumer goods. It is a majority shareholder in the Saudi Arabian Japanese Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd ( SAJA ). Tamer Investment Co. a company investing in new projects as well as established enterprises working in various industrial, trading, finance and real estate fields. It is a shareholder in the International Medical Centre ( IMC ) in Jeddah. IMC is a hospital established by prominent businessmen and Cleveland Clinic, the first international equity holder in hospitals in Saudi Arabia. SAJA a 50 year joint venture, licensing and supply agreement with Sankyo Co. Ltd and Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd to produce the latest researched pharmaceutical products. Saudi Pharmaceutical Distribution Company ( SAPHAD ) a company exclusively importing and distributing Novartis products in Saudi Arabia. The Group has 50% share in the equity.
