Open studio privileges extend only to weeks classes are in session. Basic ceramic tool kit is required for each class and can be purchased in Pewabic s Gallery Store. Daytime classes reserved for students 15 and older. Night classes reserved for students 18 and older. All classes appropriate for all skills levels. ALL ABOUT TEA* Monday, 10:00AM 1:00PM Susannah Goodman Session 1: Aug. 24 th Oct. 19 th Session 2: Oct. 26 th Dec. 14 th No class Monday Sept. 7 th. Focusing on wheel-throwing, this class will explore the many elements of tea sets: lidded forms, collaring spouts, pulling handles, throwing off the hump, assembling functional forms from many pieces and more. Students will make sets, learning methods for repetition and consistency. MONDAY WHEEL* Monday, 6:00PM 9:00PM Annie Dennis Denaway Session 1: Aug. 24 th Oct. 19 th Session 2: Oct. 26 th Dec. 14 th No class Monday Sept. 7 th. Beginning techniques such as centering, compressing and shaping, as well as more advanced techniques such as attaching multiple parts to one object, throwing lids, and surface decoration will be covered. FIGURE SCULPTING* Mondays, 6:00PM 9:00PM Christopher Mayse No Class Monday Sept. 7 th. Session 1: Aug. 24 th Oct. 19 th Session 2: Oct. 26 th Dec. 14 th Hand-building methods including additive and subtractive sculpture, relief, wheel-thrown assemblage, and traditional sculpting will be utilized in understanding classical and abstract anatomy. INDEPENDENT STUDY Tuesdays, 10:00AM 1:00PM Mary Ann Grauf Session 1: Aug. 25 th Oct. 13 th Session 2: Oct. 27 th Dec. 15 th This class is designed for the intermediate and advanced students that have specific ideas that do not fit within other class descriptions. Students must have hand building and/or clay sculpting experience.

3 HAND-BUILDING Tuesdays, 6:00PM 9:00PM Marcia Hovland Session 1: Aug. 25 th Oct. 13 th Session 2: Oct. 27 th Dec. 15 th Through demonstration and discussion, students will learn both basic and advanced technical clay building techniques that apply to both functional and sculptural work. Glaze techniques will also be explored. WEDNESDAY WHEEL Wednesdays, 10:00AM 1:00PM Rick Pruckler Session 1: Aug. 26 th Oct. 14 th Session 2: Oct. 28 th Dec. 16 th Beginning techniques such as centering, compressing and shaping, as well as more advanced techniques such as attaching multiple parts to one object, throwing lids, and surface decoration will be covered. TILE MAKING Wednesdays, 6:00PM 9:00PM Dave McGee Session 1: Aug. 26 th Oct. 14 th Session 2: Oct. 28 th Dec. 16 th Taught by a Pewabic Designer, this class will cover the way Pewabic s Fabrication department traditionally designs, fabricates and glazes tiles. Sculpting, carving and handpaints will be covered, as well as moldmaking for pressing tile. THURSDAY THROWING* Thursdays, 10:00AM - 1:00PM Annie Dennis Session 1: Aug. 27 th Oct. 15 th Session 2: Oct. 22 th Dec. 17 th No class Thurs. Nov. 26 th Beginners will learn the basics of wheel throwing and glazing techniques. Intermediate and advanced students will refine their personal voices by developing advanced wheel and decorative techniques. ADVANCED INDEPEDANT STUDY Fridays, 10:00AM 1:00PM Session 1: Aug. 28 th Oct. 16 th Session 2: Oct. 30 th Dec. 18 th This is time set aside for students who not require instruction but would still benefit from access to the studio. Students interested in this class must received approval from Studio manager. There is no instructor for this class. *No classes on September 7 th in observance of Labor Day and November 26 th in observance of Thanksgiving. Monday classes run one week longer first session to make up. Thursday classes begin one week earlier second session to make up.

4 4-6 WEEK CLASSES Our six week and four week class offerings are geared toward beginner students that have never touched clay before. These classes are designed to survey your abilities and figure out which 8- week class would best suite your interests. These classes do not include open studio time but it can be purchased for an additional $ Clay, glazes and firings are included with enrollment. CERAMIC SAMPLER, $ Week Duration Fridays, 10:00AM -1:00PM Session 1: Aug. 28 th Sept. 18 th Session 2: Oct. 30 th Nov. 20 th This intensive class is designed for students who have never worked with clay and would like to survey all fundamental ceramic construction methods. Tile pressing, wheelthrowing, and hand-building will be covered. Clay and tools provided. BEGINNER WHEEL THROWING, $ Phil Gilchrist 6 Weeks Duration Saturdays, 10:00AM-1:00PM Session 1: Aug. 29 th Oct. 3 rd Session 2: Oct Dec. 5 th This intensive class is designed for students who have never worked with clay and would like to survey all fundamental ceramic construction methods. Tile pressing, wheel throwing, and hand building will be covered. Clay and tools provided.

5 WORKSHOPS AND SPECIAL EVENTS Workshop fee includes clay and one bisque firing, unless otherwise noted. Registration is required for all workshops unless otherwise noted. RAKU PARTY $65.00 per vessel $95.00 for two vessels Saturday, Oct. 10 th 10:00AM 8:00PM You will experience the excitement of working with Pewabic artists to select, decorate and fire a pot. At the end of your session, you will go home with your own Raku art piece. This exciting hands-on experience helps to support Pewabic s education programs. FLOWER POWER $ per person Blake Williams (Exhibiting Artist) 1:00PM 4:00PM Saturday, Sept. 19 th Using meticulous hand sculpting, Blake will show ceramic enthusiasts of all levels how she makes porcelain flowers, petals and beads. Participants will each design their own flower and create templates for repetition. THURSDAY NIGHT RAKU $45.00 per person 6:00PM 8:00PM Thursday, Oct. 9 th Enrolled students now have the chance to raku a piece of their own work Thursday nights! Limit two pieces per student. Glazes provided. Students must sign up a day in advance to guarantee firing. Friday Night Out Alternative $45.00 per person 6:00PM 9:00PM Nov. 4 th, 11 th, 18 th or 25 th Looking for a stimulating Friday night adventure? Begin your weekend in our studio with your friend and/or family creating objects with soft clay slabs. You will be surprised with what you can make with no clay experience. Make it your own private party and bring your own food and beverages. Participants make two objects each, a vase and /or luminary and a tile. B.Y.O.B. All tools are supplied. HAND-BUILDING BIG POTS $45.00 per person Dianna Pancioli (Visiting Artist) 11:00AM 1:00PM Saturday, Nov. 7 th. Using the extruder and tools created and produced by Dianna students will learn how to create large historical pots.

6 FALL YOUTH WORKSHOPS Youth workshops are held one Saturday per month and cost $30.00 per person or $45.00 for one child and adult making one project. Workshops are held on the following dates from Noon 2PM. All workshops and camps are onsite, if not otherwise noted. September 5 Animal Treat Jar (Make a cookie jar for your pet!) October 3 - Elephant Wall Vase (Holds flowers, mail or pencils) November 7 - Cowboy Hat Cup (A cup fit for a sheriff!) December 5 - Elf on a Shelf (You better not pout, I m telling you why) December 29 th Snowman Luminaries December 30 th - Robots (Add a warm glow that doesn t melt.) (No oil required) -- Pewabic Education Studio is under no obligation to reschedule classes that are cancelled upon the closure of the facility due to inclement weather. There is no guarantee that a make-up class will be offered. Classes will not be pro-rated to accommodate a missed class, nor will refunds be issued.
