1 Level 3 Operate steam turbine condensate system Credits 4 Purpose This unit standard is for people who work or intend to work as power plant operators. It is used to recognise people operating steam turbine condensate system. People credited with this unit standard are able to: Prepare steam turbine condensate system for start up Start and monitor startup conditions Maintain and sustain steam turbine condensate system operability during normal running conditions Stabilise transient conditions Shutdown and isolate steam turbine condensate system Preserve steam turbine condensate system for storage Special notes 1. General Information i. Assesment of this unit shall be in the context of oral and practical form. 2. Range statements i. Condensate system include but is not limited to storage, heating and transfer of condensate from the condenser to the inlet of the dearator. 3. Legislation and references i. Performance for this unit standard must comply with the following legislation and codes of practice: electricity supply act of 1973, Disposal of toxic materials act of 1998, Factories act of 1979 and their subsequent amendments. 3 Elements and Performance Criteria Element 1 Prepare steam turbine condesante system for start up 1.1. Safety precautions are applied according to organisational safety standards Personal protective equipment required is used as stipulated by organisational safety standards Instruction to prepare steam turbine condensate system is confirmed in 1.4. Steam turbine condensate system is prepared in accordance with organisational procedures Steam turbine condensate system status is communicated in accordance with organisational procedures. Element 2 Start and monitor startup conditions 2.1. Instruction to start steam turbine condensate system is confirmed in 2.2. Steam turbine condensate system is started in accordance with organisational procedures Steam turbine condensate system startup conditions are monitored in accordance with organisational procedures. 4 Element 3 Maintain steam turbine condensate system operability during normal running conditions 3.1. Abnormal conditions are identified in accordance with manufacturer's specifications Abnormal conditions are acted upon in accordance with manufacturer's specifications Monitored conditions are communicated in accordance with organisational Element 4 Stabilise transient conditions 4.1. Transient conditions are identified in accordance with organisational 4.2. Transient conditions are analysed in accordance with organisational 4.3. Steam turbine condensate system is isolated in accordance with organisational procedures Isolated steam turbine condesante system status is communicated in Element 6 Preserve steam turbine condensate system for storage 6.1. Steam turbine condensate system is prepared for preservation in 6.2. Steam turbine condensate system preserved status is maintained in 6.3.
