1 STK X Tutorial - Visual Basic 6 In this exercise you will gain hands-on experience using STK X to embed STK functionality in a container application created with Visual Basic 6.0. Select Standard EXE. 3) If Form1 now appears in the designer, skip to the next section. Otherwise proceed to the next step. 4) If a default form was not created automatically, click on the Add Form button in the toolbar to create a new one. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic 6.0 1

2 5) In the dialog box that appears, select Form. The form will be opened in design mode. Add the STK X controls to the Toolbox 1) On the View menu, click Toolbox to bring up the toolbox. 2) Right-click in the toolbox background. 3 3) In the Components dialog, go the Controls tab. Check AGI STK X 8 to load the AGI Map and Globe controls. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic 6.0 3

4 4) Click OK to close the Components dialog. 5) On the main menu, select Project->References. Scroll down and make sure AGI STK/Util 8 is selected. 6) The Map and Globe controls now appear in the Toolbox. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic 6.0 4

5 Send commands to STK X 1) Resize Form1 to a comfortable dimension. Click the Map Control and Globe Control in the Toolbox and place them on the form. Resize and move the controls to a visually pleasing orientation. 2) Click on the CommandButton control in the Toolbox to add a button to the form. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic 6.0 5

6 3) In the Properties dialog for the new button, change the Caption property to New Scenario. 4) Double-click on the new button in the designer. The code for Form1.vb will be displayed. 7 End Sub 5) Run the application. Click the New Scenario button. This may take a few minutes. 6) With the mouse you can control the Globe window. Add Zoom In/Out to the Map control 1) Add two more buttons to the Form1 windows form. Change the caption for the buttons to Zoom In and Zoom Out. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic 6.0 7

8 2) Double-click on the Zoom In button to switch to the code for the Click event handler. Modify the code like this: Private Sub Command2_Click() AgUiAx2DCntrl1.ZoomIn End Sub 3) Double-click on the Zoom Out button to switch to the code for the Click event handler. Modify the code like this: Private Sub Command3_Click() AgUiAx2DCntrl1.ZoomOut End Sub 4) Run the application. Click the New Scenario button. Click the Zoom In button. Use the mouse to define the zoom area in the Map control. You can zoom out by clicking the Zoom Out button. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic 6.0 8

9 Respond to events raised by STK X 1) In the Visual Basic 6 IDE, switch to the code view and enter the following function: Private Sub AgUiAx2DCntrl1_DblClick() MsgBox ("2D Map double-clicked.") End Sub 2) Run the application. Double-click in the Map window. The message box will be displayed. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic 6.0 9

10 3) You can use the same approach to hook up to the Globe control events. 4) You are now going to respond to STK X application events. Using the class and method name selectors at the top of the code window, select (General) as the class and (Declarations) for the method name. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic

11 5) Add the line below to the form code. This adds the stkxapp member variable to your form. Through this variable you can access the STK X application object. Private WithEvents stkxapp As AgSTKXApplication 6) You will now subscribe for notification on the STK X application object. As this object is not a control, the procedure is a little bit different. Use the class and method name selectors to select the Form class and the Load method. Add these lines to the form loader: Private Sub Form_Load() Set stkxapp = AgUiAxVOCntrl1.Application End Sub 7) Now, add an event handler to listen for new scenario events. At the end of the code, add the following handler: Private Sub stkxapp_onscenarionew(byval path As String) MsgBox ("Scenario created: " & path) End Sub 8) Run the application. Click the New Scenario button. The message box will be displayed as a result of the event. Add map picking 1) Go back to the Design view in Visual Basic 6 by selecting Form1 from the Project panel. Add a label to the form. 2) Under the Appearance subsection of the Properties page, clear the label caption so that it comes up blank. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic

12 3) Switch to the code viewer. Use the class and method name selectors to select the AxAgUiAxVOCntrl1 class and the MouseMove event. Enter the following code in the function generated by Visual Basic: Private Sub AgUiAxVOCntrl1_MouseMove(Button As Integer, _ Shift As Integer, x As Single, y As Single) Dim pickinfodata As STKXLibCtl.AgPickInfoData Set pickinfodata = _ AgUiAxVOCntrl1.PickInfo(x / Screen.TwipsPerPixelX, _ y / Screen.TwipsPerPixelY) If pickinfodata.islatlonaltvalid Then _ Label1.Caption = "Lat: " & pickinfodata.lat & vbcrlf & "Lon: " & pickinfodata.lon & vbcrlf & "Alt: " _ & pickinfodata.alt Else Label1.Caption = "" End If End Sub 4) Run the application. Click the New Scenario button. Move the mouse over the Globe in the Globe control. The mouse move event will be called. The mouse coordinates are converted to latitude/longitude/altitude and displayed in the label. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic

13 Set STK X properties 1) Return to the form editor window and click on the Globe control. The Properties window will show the properties for the Globe control. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic

14 2) The BackColor property allows you to set the background color of the Globe control s viewing square. Click on the property in the window, then on the downpointing caret on the right. Select the dark red square. 3) The background of the Globe object will change to match the selected color. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic

15 4) The NoLogo property allows you to hide the splash panel by setting it to true. The Picture property allows you to set the picture displayed in the splash panel if NoLogo is set to false. Click on the Picture property, then the ellipsis button to the right to bring up the file browser. Select a picture to display in the splash panel. 5) The picture you have chosen will replace the default splash panel. STK X Tutorial Visual Basic
