3 March Songs One Elephant One elephant went out to play, out on a spider s web one day. He had such enormous fun, he called for another elephant to come. (2 elephants went out to play, then 3, then 4, etc.) The Clown Jolly and gay is the funny old clown, merriest fellow that comes to out town. Everyone laughing wherever he goes, tumbling about in his funny old clothes. When I m old enough I ll be a clown. Little Peter Rabbit Little Peter Rabbit had a fly upon his ear, Little Peter Rabbit had a fly upon his ear, Little Peter Rabbit had a fly upon his ear, and he flicked it and it flew away. (fly upon his head, fly upon his paw, fly upon his eye, etc.) Grey Pony The little grey pony looked out of the barn, he wants to go out to play. The little grey pony jumped over the fence and galloped and galloped away. And galloped and galloped away, and galloped and galloped away. The little grey pony jumped over the fence and galloped and galloped away. Six Little Ducks Six little ducks that I once knew, big ones, fat one, skinny ones too. But the one little duck with the feathers in the back, he led the others with a quack, quack, quack. Down to the river they would go, wibble, wobble, wibble wobble, to and fro. But the one little duck with the feathers in the back, he led the others with a quack, quack, quack. The Merry-Go-Round Let s Go to the Zoo Let s go to the zoo and see the shiny black seals. Let s go to the zoo and see the shiny black seals. The seals, they flap like this, the seals, they flap about like this. Oh, come let s go, oh, come, let s go, oh, come let s go to the zoo. Oh, come let s go, oh, come, let s go, oh, come let s go to the zoo. In the Long Grass Who s that hopping (crawling, walking, etc.) in the long grass? Hop, hop hopping (crawl, crawl, crawling) in the grass. It s a kangaroo (bunny, bear) that s hopping. Hop, hop, hopping in the grass. Oh, the camels and bears and ponies are found, prancing around on the merry-go-round. Too-dle-oo-toodle-oo, on the merry-go-round. Little Bunny I m a little bunny and I hop, hop, hop. Right foot left, oh I cannot stop. Now my ears are wiggling and I feel so free. Let me find a bunny who will hop with me. PNS NEWS PAGE 3
4 March News From The Classrooms Mrs. Haas & Mrs. Halpern s Four Year Old Class - The Penguins February was a busy month! We celebrated Chinese New Year complete with a real dragon dance and special treats at snack time. Mrs. Yuzuki (Sky s mom) helped with stories and snacks. We also celebrated Valentine s Day with projects, games, and songs. We learned about Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, and saw and learned about how to take care of pets. It looks like March is coming in like a lion, and will hopefully go out like a lamb. This month we will learn about the tropical rainforest and springtime. We will make many rainforest animals from the rainforest floor up to the emergent level. We ll also talk about how important the plants in the rainforest are to people. Please keep on reading and telling family stories to your child. Chatty parents build great vocabularies and imaginations in their child. Please remember to send in a list of books you have read with your child. After 25 books, a special award is given, and after 50, a prize. The books can be checked out at the school and/or gotten from the library. Mrs. Hilliard s Three Year Old Class - The Turtles What a busy, busy February we had with our Valentine s Day parties. Thank you for all the wonderful treats and thoughtful gifts. As the flowers, buds, leaves, insects, birds and all spring to life again, let s make it a point to spend some extra time with these young minds and point out all the wondrous things that are happening around us. I think we are all looking forward to SPRING! Our unit this month will focus on zoo animals. We will learn about the habitats of these fun animals, what they eat, and what they do! PNS NEWS PAGE 4
5 Mrs. Hilliard s Two Year Old Class - The Bumblebees This month our class will be learning about Spring! We will learn about pets, big and small. We will have our own little Leprechaun party and learn some springtime songs. Mrs. Levick s After Care Notes I will begin a discussion about spring in the After Care program. What changes do we see happening around us? What are the animals doing now that they are no longer hibernating? What are the trees and plants doing? I will have the children plant something easy (like parsley) to grow in school. Hopefully the seeds will grow and then the children can each take home a container. I am also planning for the children to each make a bird s nest, maybe a classroom bird s nest too. I would like to read the book The Hungry Caterpillar and then have a cooking lesson based on the book. Finally, as always, we will try to go outside to run around and observe nature close-up.
