3 Concept of Telematics Based Car Insurance - A Model that Targets Specific Driver Groups Concept of Telematics Based Car Insurance System Risk-groups are based on driving behaviour Multiple suppliers involved GPS based track and trace Telematics based Insurance System PAYD -First Product in Europe Mileage and time of the day form the key The concept works on three main parameters on a top level - when you drive, where you drive and how you drive The product is a GPS based model that uses track and trace technology to decipher tariff for the route traversed. A GPS black box installed in the car along with a GSM module will help transfer data stored in the system to a remote data center This is then compared with the pre-designated tariff table to arrive at the insurance premium. As the premium varies from journey to journey, the name is pay as you drive Apart from route taken and time of the day driven, other regular parameters like make of the car, age of the driver are also included for premium calculation The system incorporates different risk groups based on age and driving behaviour. This forms the key towards tariff calculation System involves cooperation of multiple suppliers from telecommunication, data storage and security, insurance provider, GPS and GSM equipment providers 3
