4 The Mission of NXP and it s Partners Key Statement : ecall technology can save 2500 lives in Europe per year. NXP and partners believe that ecall technology should be available to all European citizen. Therefore a cost-efficient solution is required. NXP s ATOP masters all standards in all European countries regardless whether European standard (in-band modem) or private solutions (eg SMS-based). Objective: Drive the implementation of ecall regardless of the various formats currently under debate Proving/promoting ecall in field trails as well supporting EU implementation initiatives in 2011 Proving that Telematics suppliers and car manufacturers are supporting the European ecall initiative Proof: NXP and partners tour Europe to show that ecall functionality and technology is ready in all European countries.

12 Conclusions A breakthrough of pan-european ecall is feasible Requirements : Need to join forces between Public Authorities & Industry Need for co-existence of public ecall and private initiatvies Need for a European legislation on ecall ~ mandatory! Need for open systems for a combination of ecall with other Telematics Initiatives Field robustness of ecall inband modem and protocol requires focus
