5 Construction of Berlin Wall After the Second World, Germany as well as the capital Berlin was divided into 4 sectors occupied by allied power: the US, the UK, France and Soviet Union. In 1945, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) was declared, which had a social market economy, was different from the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany)

6 Construction of Berlin Wall By Sunday morning on 13 August 1961, the border of East Germany to West Germany was closed. The construction of the Berlin Wall began. Numerous of East Germans could no longer travel or migrate to West Germany. Many families were therefore split.

12 The Black Forest Culture The Black Forest (German Schwarzwald) is a wooded mountain range in Baden- Württemberg, southwestern Germany. an area of approximately sq km. The forest mostly consists of pines and firs, some of which are grown in commercial monoculture.

14 The Black Forest Cuckoo Clock It was first made in Triberg in 18 th century, though in 17 th Century, the first known description of modern cuckoo clock was penned by a nobleman from Augsburg which is now a city in Bavaria. One of the typical black forest cuckoos is in a shape of a black forest chalet(schonach)

15 The Black Forest Cake (Schwarzwälder-Kirsch-Torte) It is named after the Schwarzwaelder Kirsch (black forest cherry schnapps ) produced in the Black Forest, That gives the famous black forest cake a special flavor.

Concerts by the famous St. Thomas' boys' choir are always a truly memorable experience.

19 German Christmas Markets in winter The history of Christmas markets goes back to the Late Middle Ages in the German speaking part of Europe. The Dresden Christmas market, first held in 1434, is one of the oldest Christmas markets Christmas markets in Germany open during the four weeks of Advent (around last week of November till Christmas Eve)
