5 1 Purpose of use -series isolating transformers are compliant with all requirements of DIN VDE (VDE 0100 part 710) for IT systems in medical locations. This makes them suitable for their intended purpose, namely the use in IT system power supplies for medical locations. 2 Technical features In isolating transformers, the secondary winding is galvanically separated from the primary winding. The isolating transformers have a reinforced insulation and are compliant with the requirements of DIN EN (VDE 570 part 1) and DIN EN (VDE 0570 part 2-15). In order to reduce electrical interference, a static shield is installed between the windings. The shield has an insulated connector for connection to the equipotential bonding. Corrosion protection is ensured by a complete vacuum resin impregnation. This has the added benefit of guaranteeing low noise emissions even after long use. 9 5 Assembly, connection, labeling NOTE The assembly and the connection may only be carried out by qualified electricians. All relevant safety regulations and standards have to be observed. 5.1 Assembly The isolating transformer is designed for use in dry indoor spaces. Ensure sufficient ventilation/cooling. The rated output decreases at temperatures over 40 C. For temperature monitoring, each limb has a wound-in PTC thermistor, which is wired to terminal. The requirements for protection against electromagnetic interference (EMC/EMI) according to DIN VDE annex C are fulfilled at a minimum distance of two metres without any further measures. The isolating transformer must be installed behind a cover that cannot be opened without tools. The isolating transformer and its cover must be labelled (see chapter 5.3 on page 10). The mounting brackets are insulated from the transformer core. The transformers need not be installed separately isolated. 5.2 Connection The ingoing and outgoing feeders of the isolating transformers must be secured against short circuit and short to ground. Use only devices for short-circuit protection; isolating transformers should not be protected against overload. The use of an overload protection is not permitted (DIN VDE (VDE 0100 part 710) paragraph ). For the protection of transformers, monitoring devices to be used according to DIN VDE (VDE ) resp. DIN VDE (VDE 0100 part 710) section The relevant terminal strip is designed for wire cross-sections from 1 35 mm². Shield windings provided by the customer may be connected to the PE terminal. 11 A Comparison oft he isolating transformers (Standard/ECO) The copper losses in both versions (Standard/ECO) are the same and load-dependent. However, the ECO isolating transformers have a special core material, which is manufactured with a special technology. The ECO isolation transformers more efficient than the standard version in terms of no-load power and the no-load input currents. Fig. 8 shows the comparison of the isolating transformers based of the graphical profile of the heat power dissipationas a function of the load at an ambient temperature of 40 C.
