1 St Luke s News January/February 2015 We have had a rather busy half term crammed with trips, events and exciting learning taking place in school. Yr4 have experienced the world of Stop/Start animation, Yr1 have been to the Farm and years 5 and 6 have participated in interschool football and rowing. Yr5 have also experienced their first residential with a 2 day visit to York. We are proud to be involved in the interschool initiative to raise awareness of online safety at home. We work hard in school to ensure that staying safe on line is embedded into learning which takes place in school however, we want to ensure safety at home as well. On the 28th January officers from Staffordshire Moorlands invited our parents along to a discussion at Endon High School to share information about online safety and it s place in child sexual exploitation. The event showed some short videos to highlight behaviour and warning signs as well as a discussions on the technical side of keeping our children safe. It was well attended and I have received positive feedback from those who attended. On the 15th January we welcomed grandparents into school to enjoy a lunch with their reception class grandchildren. This was well attended and enjoyed by all. School Uniform School uniform is an important part of our whole school ethos. When children wear the same clothes, it reduces the possibilities of distractions in lessons and helps children to concentrate. The uniform requirements are listed on the school website under the school prospectus, but here are a few reminders. Ear rings are not permitted for health and safety reasons. Please could children wear black shoes not pumps or trainers. Please could long hair be tied back. Headbands, if worn, should be in the school colours and no hair gel or styling products should be noticeable. Nail varnish is not permitted. PE Kit White polo shirt Blue shorts Black pumps for indoors and trainers for outdoors Blue sweatshirt for winter time. Thank you for ensuring our children look their best.

2 Parent Support Worker There are times when, as parents, you may need some support or are unsure of how to deal with a family issue. Michelle Cooper, our family support worker may be able to provide a solution. Elizabeth Hardy is our Education Welfare Worker. Please contact the school office for details should you require their support or advice. Junior Youth Club Endon A junior youth club is held at the Endon Methodist Church every Friday evening during term time. It runs from 6pm to 7pm. There are spaces available for 6 12 year olds. Everyone is welcome so come along to meet you friends and have some fun. Car Parking Reminder Station Road/Orford Road Please be mindful of where, in the vicinity of the school, you are parking. Several of our neighbours in Station Road have been blocked into their drives by people dropping off/collecting from school. Orford Road is private road and is for residents only. Please respect their right to be able to access their property. PSA Events Mother Day Shop 12th and 13th March Thornton s Egg Decorating 18th March Film Nights on the 24th March, 19th May and 23rd June. PSA Disco on 12th March (KS1 6-6:45pm and KS2 7-8pm) As always, many thanks to the PSA for their tireless energy used to raise money for our school. Already, this year, the PSA have purchased new Hi-visibility jackets for the children with the St Luke s Logo on the back making us safe and smart on our school trips. Yr3 Potteries Museum visit Yr3, as part of their topic on through the ages paid a visit to the Potteries Museum on 11th February. They took part in workshops becoming digging detectives exploring archaeological exploration of artefacts from the Stone Age.

3 St Luke s New Website The bare bones of the website have been finalised and we are working with a web design company who will be populating it with information, photos and content. We are looking forward to a beginning of March launch date. Endon Well Dressing Would your child like to be a Maypole Dancer and be a part of this year s Well Dressing Celebrations? If so, please come along to the Village Hall at Endon on 24th February 5pm 6pm to find out more and to have a go. Please wear pumps or trainers. After that, if you decide it s something that your child would like to do there will be rehearsals taking place and more information will be given out at that meeting. Head to to fundraise for St Luke's CE Primary School. FAST Club Fast Club continues to go from strength to strength being near to capacity most days with Wednesdays being full. We are running several clubs during this term which include cookery, nature, craft and book club all of which will continue after half term. We have also had some new toys in club which have gone down very well. In accordance with the Government s new guidance on School Food Standards, there have been changes to our menu snacks. Squash has been replaced by pure fruit juice and cake replaced by fruit or raisins and yogurt. We are also monitoring the salt and sugar content of the cereals we serve. All the staff who prepare snacks have the relevant food safety qualifications. If you have any questions about this or anything else in FAST Club please don t hesitate to contact either Lynne Schonau or Paula Elliott (office2@st-lukes-endon.staffs.sch.uk). Reminder if you need to change you normal attendance or report an absence it should come through to the office (to Paula Elliott) and not the FAST Club directly. In view of the numbers of children it is not always possible for FAST Club staff to pass on the information to the office. Similarly, from a safeguarding view, if you child is not attending on an evening when they usually attend (i.e. gone home for tea with friends/grannie picked up for a change etc) then you must let us know, to save any frantic calls to ascertain your child s whereabouts.

4 Y2 Trip to Cadbury World Unfortunately snow disrupted the fun at Cadbury World on 29th January and an early start back to ensure the safety of our Y2 children. We will be looking to rebook the trip at a later date and further details will follow.
