2 OVERVIEW College is pleased to offer a wide variety of technical and professional courses, which gives our learners the specific skills that employers are seeking. This includes a wide variety of full-time courses, part-time professional courses and Apprenticeships. The majority of our part-time professional courses and Apprenticeships can also be studied at your place of work. As an Ofsted Outstanding training provider, College is recognised widely for its high standards of teaching and student support. Courses are taught by highly qualified staff with relevant work experience in the subject they teach. The College also benefits from state-of-the-art modern facilities, which are currently undergoing a 12million transformation. An important part of the local community, College also runs a wide range of part-time leisure courses in convenient community locations throughout the local area in addition to the full-time and part-time professional courses at the main campus. We hope that you find this guide useful, however if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our Information, Advice and Guidance team by calling or . Alternatively if your query is regarding employer services, please call or btraining@eastleigh.ac.uk. QUALIFICATIONS EXPLAINED At College there are many different qualifications to choose from, with varying levels of academic and/or vocational challenge. It is essential for you, and for any of your future employers or educational providers, to be able to understand easily the academic and vocational level of the courses you choose so that it is clear how they stand in relation to other qualifications. The below career ladder indicates the level of vocational qualifications and Apprenticeships in comparison to A-Levels. For example, a Level 3 qualification or Advanced Apprenticeship is equivalent to A-Levels. It is also possible to transfer between the academic route and the Apprenticeships route, and vice vera. LEVEL ACADEMIC CAREER LADDER APPRENTICESHIP CAREER LADDER Level 6 Bachelor Degree Higher Advanced (Level 6) Level 5 Foundation Degree / HNC / Degree Higher Advanced (Level 5) Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education Higher Advanced (Level 4) Level 3 A-Levels Advanced Level 2 GCSEs Intermediate

3 WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP? Apprenticeships combine paid employment with recognised accredited learning tailored to specific job roles. An apprentice will have a job and also be studying towards the relevant qualifications for that Apprenticeship, which also includes functional skills in maths, English and in some cases IT. An apprenticeship is a way for young people and adult learners to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification and a real future. Most of the training is on-the-job at an employer s premises, working with a mentor to learn job specific skills in the workplace. WHAT ABOUT NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (NVQS)? An NVQ is a competency based assessment which means it is very practical and assesses your competency within a particular vocation or job role. NVQs at College can be studied at the College, or within a place of work if a part-time course is chosen. Vocational courses have been developed in partnership with employers, in order to ensure that students learn the skills that are relevant for their industry. This type of study allows students to learn the technical and professional skills which will prove to employers that they are work-ready. In these competitive times, having practical experience behind you can give you the edge in your job search. WHAT ARE WORK-BASED LEARNING QUALIFICATIONS? Work based learning offers flexible qualifications that you can undertake within your workplace. This includes a range of Apprenticeships and Nationally recognised Vocational Qualification s (NVQs) in a range of subject areas. Fully workplace based courses are an excellent way to recognise the talents in your workforce without having them spend time off-site in order to do so. This type of course is especially suited to existing employees within an organisation who have gained experience in the relevant industry and would like their skills accredited. It is also a great way to encourage staff who are already qualified to develop and achieve a higher level of attainment. A range of government led subsidies are available through the College to assist with course costs. To find out more please visit our website.

You must be a qualified Electrician in the electrical installation field and you are required to Complete a question sheet referencing prior knowledge. What career opportunities can this lead to? Candidates successfully completing the C&G 2394 and 2395 qualifications will be ideally prepared for the C&G 2396 design and verification of electrical installations qualification. We strongly recommend that unless a candidate has a proven record and substantial experience in the field of inspection and testing, that they attempt C&G 2394 before C&G What does this programme involve? The C&G 2395 is the Level 3 award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations. The course covers explanations of current legislation, HSAW, EAWR, GS38, selection and use of test equipment, safe isolation procedures and methods of recording Inspection and Test results through the completion of relevant documentation for Periodic Condition Reporting This qualification is recognised for those wanting to Inspect, Test and Report on the Condition of Existing Installation. The course requires completion of a closed book online exam, closed book written exam and practical assessment. The sessions are split to give both theory and practical knowledge, the theory is completed through structured questions designed to encourage the candidate to use BS7671 and GN3 extensively. Whilst every opportunity is given for hands on use of test instruments, it is expected that candidates will have some prior experience. The test scenarios will include work on both single and three phase installations How is the programme taught and assessed? The sessions are split to give both theory and practical knowledge. Theory is supported through the completion of structured questions, designed to encourage the candidate to use BS7671 extensively, whilst every opportunity is given for hands-on use of the test equipment. Test scenarios will include work on both single and three phase installations. What else do I need to know? This course is for those currently working as electricians who have C&G th Edition. Candidates will have proven ability in the field and will be required to show evidence to this effect. This is normally carried out through completion of a questionnaire and a telephone interview.
