Release Abstract This Software Release Notice (SRN) for version of the PlexView Advanced Reporting System (ARS) software describes the system architecture and features provided by this product. This software release notice covers both the Advanced Reporting System and the Advanced Reporting System with the Advanced Traffic Collector. The PlexView Advanced Reporting system provides a reporting environment that enables you to generate, schedule, and control access to predefined customizable reports. The Advanced Reporting system provides access to Inventory (for both the EMS and switches), Performance Monitoring, Traffic Statistics, and Order Entry data. The platform uses an architecture consisting of distributed databases and the report engine from Business Objects. This software release notice (SRN) contains important release-specific information that is not available elsewhere. Software This release of the PlexView ARS contains the following software PlexView Advanced Reporting Traffic Collection Software Install CD PlexView Advanced Reporting WebIntelligence Install CD PlexView Advanced Reporting Oracle Client Install CD PlexView Advanced Reporting Business Objects Install CD (1 and 2) PlexView Advanced Reporting Universe Master CD PlexView Element Management System License CD License Keys The PlexView Element Management System License CD has information on how to obtain license keys for the Advanced Reporting system. System Requirements The minimum recommended system requirements for this version of the PlexView Advanced Reporting System are provided in the following sections. For situations where hardware resources will be shared by applications or the architecture of the ARS could change over time, contact Lucent Worldwide Service for further information on recommended hardware. Advanced Reporting Workstation Requirements The advanced reporting workstation for applications without advanced traffic collection has the following hardware requirements: 550 Mhz Processor 1G RAM 40G Disk Space Advanced Traffic Collector Workstation Requirements The advanced reporting workstation for applications with advanced traffic collection will contain the StatsCollector application. This hardware requirement section is valid regardless of the architecture of the TSAA/StatsCollector relationship. The traffic collector workstation has the following minimum hardware requirements: 550 Mhz Processor 1G RAM Hard drive options are listed in the next section. Advanced Traffic Collector Hard Drive Options: Minimum Configuration Option 36G hard drive or two 36G hard drives with one acting as a mirror For maximum performance, do not use this setup. The OS and Oracle database reside on the same physical disk partition. Periodic backups are required if mirroring is not set up. Standard Configuration Option Two 36G hard drives with no mirroring This puts the OS and Oracle database on separate physical disk partitions. Periodic backups are required. Ideal Configuration Option 3 Two 36G hard drives with mirroring or a RAID Level 5 device for data read/write This puts the OS and Oracle on separate physical disk partitions and the Oracle data on a RAID device and does not require periodic backups. 6 of 10 Lucent Technologies, Inc.

7 PlexView Advanced Reporting System Software Release Notice Mounting instructions are included in the relevant user guide and behave similarly whether mirroring uses Sun Solstice or Veritas Volume Manager software. Note: For superior performance, use a RAID disk array and optimize your Oracle physical database layout. PlexView EMS Server Requirements The server requirements for an application that will run the PlexView Element Management System and the PlexView Advanced Reporting System is greater than the requirements for a PlexView Element Management System. EMS Server: The Sun workstation that will have the EMS Server on it has the following minimum hardware requirements: 550 Mhz Processor 1G RAM 20G Disk Space EMS Server with ARS: The Sun workstation that will have the EMS Server and the ARS on it has the following minimum hardware requirements: 550 Mhz Processor 2G RAM 40G Disk Space Business Objects PC Requirements The Business Objects PC must be a new PC and must be dedicated to the Advanced Reporting System. You can use this PC for the Business Objects client. Note: This PC must never have had an instance of Oracle on it. If an instance of Oracle has ever been on the PC, do not use it. The PC that will run the Business Objects software must meet the minimum specifications as stated by Business Objects. This software can be installed on computers running: Windows 95 Windows 98 Windows 2000 Windows NT4 with service pack 6a. Windows XP has not been tested and is not supported. 8 Software Release Notice PlexView Advanced Reporting System Oracle Database Requirements The PlexView Server employs an Oracle database for persistent storage of selected configuration information as well as user account information. Oracle 8i Standard Edition Release 3 ( ) and the Oracle patch set are bundled into this release of PlexView ARS software. You are required to upgrade your existing Oracle software to to use this version of PlexView. Optimizing Oracle Physical Database Layout The physical database layout can be optimized on the Advanced Traffic Collector workstation. Overall system performance improves when you add additional physical disk drives and map them to Oracle data directories. Lucent recommends that each directory map to a separate disk. Instructions are included in the installation procedures. Solaris Version/Patch Requirements PlexView EMS software (client or server) requires Solaris 2.8 (recommended) or 2.7 with the corresponding Solaris patches. Patches can be downloaded in.tar format from the Sun website, PlexView Software Requirements This version of ARS software requires that the PlexView EMS software be at a minimum release of Switch Software Requirements Switch software can be at any release supported by PlexView EMS and it will also be supported by this release of ARS of 10 Lucent Technologies, Inc.

Validated PlexView and Switch Releases This version of the PlexView Advanced Reporting System has been validated against a PlexView EMS software release of , and switches running Using this ARS software with other releases of EMS or switch software may yield unpredictable results. Upgrading the Advanced Reporting System Using the install files to perform an upgrade will result in the loss of all data in the StatsCollector s Oracle database.
