2 1 Directory structure of the CD-ROM This CD-ROM contains all the files required to install RMHost version 1.0 onto a Unix workstation. It contains the following directories, files, and documentation: Unix installation files The root directory contains RMHost 1.0 installation files for supported Unix platforms (see Platform and software requirements on page 1). It also contains the files readmerm.txt and licenserm.txt. common directory hpux directory solaris directory Contains RealMonitor DynaText files and PDF documentation in.tar format. Contains binaries and the Adobe Acrobat Reader in.tar format for the HP-UX platform. Contains binaries and the Adobe Acrobat Reader in.tar format for the Solaris platforms. 3 2 Installing ARM RMHost 1.0 This section describes how to install RMHost 1.0 in a Unix environment. 2.1 Hardware requirements The following are the minimum hardware requirements for installing and running RMHost 1.0 for Unix: SunSPARC workstation (Solaris 2.6 or Solaris 7) or HP-UX workstation CD-ROM drive. (This can be a networked CD-ROM drive.) You must also have the following hardware to use RealMonitor: An RDI 1.5.1rt-compliant JTAG unit, that can be one of the following: Multi-ICE version 2.0 Agilent Emulation Probe (E5900B). Target board: Integrator/AP Integrator/SP. Target processor: ARM946E-S (CM946E-S core module) ARM966E-S (CM966E-S core module) ARM1020T (CM1020T core module). For more details on RealMonitor hardware requirements, see the system requirements section in the Introduction chapter of the ARM RMTarget Integration Guide. 2.2 Platform and software requirements You must have one of the following Unix workstation types to install and run RMHost 1.0: HP-UX Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 7 (SunSPARC). Note Instructions for installing RMHost on a Windows platform are provided with the Windows version of RMHost. This guide describes the installation procedure for only the supported Unix operating systems. You must also have the ARM Developer Suite (ADS) 1.1 installed on your system. 4 The debugger you use must be one of the following: ARM extended Debugger (AXD), as provided with ADS version 1.1 any other RDI 1.5.1rt-compliant debugger. Note RMHost is not supported when using the ARM Debugger for Windows (ADW). If you want to view the PDF version of the RMHost and RMTarget guides, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system. Acrobat Reader is provided with both ADS (see Adobe Acrobat Reader on page 5) and the Unix version of RMHost. The ARM RMHost User Guide and ARM RMTarget Integration Guide are also viewable in DynaText as part of the ADS manual suite (see DynaText on page 5), if you select this component when installing RMHost Installation procedure To install RMHost 1.0 for Unix: 1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. The volume manager mounts the CD automatically. 2. Move to the top-level CD-ROM directory: cd /cdrom/rmv1_0_1 3. Type the following: sh install.sh A message is displayed indicating that RMTarget is required, which is delivered with AFS 1.2. The message also indicates that Multi-ICE 2.0 must be installed if you are using Multi-ICE hardware with RMHost. 4. Press <ENTER> to continue. The license agreement is displayed. 5. Scroll to read the entire license agreement. At the bottom, you are asked whether you accept the terms of the agreement. If you do not accept the terms, type n to exit installation without accepting the terms. In this case, you can return the software to the supplier for a refund. If you accept the terms of the license agreement, type y. You are prompted to select the platform onto which RMHost is to be installed. 6. Select a platform, or combination of platforms, from the list. (Alternatively, you can quit the installation and return to your current directory.) 5 7. Select one of the following options: Typical installation Compact installation Custom installation Full installation Quit. A different set of components is installed with each option. (Typical installation contains only the component binaries and PDF documentation.) If you select a typical, compact, or full installation, you are prompted to enter the directory into which RMHost is to be installed. Go to step If you select a custom installation, you are prompted, in order, whether you want to install the following: a. Component binaries. b. PDF documentation. c. DynaText books (to be installed as part of the online suite of books with ADS). d. Adobe Acrobat Reader (required to view PDF documentation). You are prompted to enter the directory into which RMHost is to be installed. 9. Enter the root directory of your ADS installation. If you enter another directory, you are given an error message, and returned to the same prompt. If the DynaText viewer is already installed on your system, or if the RealMonitor DynaText guides are not included in the components you have chosen to install, you are prompted whether you want to review and change the installation details. In this case, go to step 11. If the DynaText viewer is not currently installed, and you have chosen to install the RealMonitor DynaText guides, you are prompted to select a default display type for viewing DynaText files. 10. Select a display type that is applicable to the users in your Unix workgroup. You are prompted whether you want to review and change the installation details. 11. Select whether you want to change installation details, or begin installing files. If you select the option to change details, you are returned to the platform selection screen (step 6). If you choose to continue with the installation, files are copied onto your system. When installation is complete, the message Installation is complete is displayed, and users are advised to run RMsetup.sh (see step 12). Note If RealMonitor DynaText guides were not installed by the RMHost installer, you can now begin using RMHost. ARM DSI 0015A Copyright 2000 ARM Limited. All rights reserved. 3

6 12. Every user with a personal copy of.ebtrc in their home directory must type RMsetup.sh from within the ADS installation directory. When this script is executed, the copy of.ebtrc in their home directory is changed to reflect the availability of the RealMonitor DynaText guides. When the script has finished executing, the message RMsetup finished successfully is displayed. 13. All users must ensure that DynaText settings are included in their environment settings. If DynaText has been installed with a previous installation of ADS, for example, these settings might not need to be changed. Examples of correct DynaText settings are provided in the following files in the ADS installation directory: env_dtxt.csh env_dtxt.sh. All users can now begin using RMHost. Caution If RealMonitor DynaText guides were installed by the RMHost installer, users cannot view these guides if steps 12 and 13 are not performed. 2.4 Adding and removing RMHost 1.0 components Every time you install RMHost on Unix system, you are given the choice of which installation type you prefer (such as compact or full). This screen is displayed regardless of whether a previous version of RMHost exists on your system. Any existing RMHost components are overwritten with each installation you perform. Caution If RealMonitor DynaText guides are installed on your system, they are removed with every subsequent installation of ADS. In this case, you can restore the RealMonitor DynaText guides only by rerunning the RMHost installer. 4 Copyright 2000 ARM Limited. All rights reserved. ARM DSI 0015A

7 3 Viewing online documentation This section describes how to invoke the help file and the guides provided with RealMonitor. 3.1 Online help From the RealMonitor Configuration dialog box, you can invoke the RMHost help file, RealMonitor.hlp, by clicking Help. Alternatively, you can view the file as a standalone, by performing the following steps: 1. Go to your ADS installation directory. 2. Depending on your Unix platform, access the help file as follows: Solaris HP-UX Type windu/bin.sol2/hyperhelp/bin/hyperhelp solaris/bin/realmonitor.hlp Type windu/bin.hp700mt/hyperhelp/bin/hyperhelp hpux/bin/realmonitor.hlp For details on how to navigate through the online help file, see the first topic in the file, Welcome to Online Help for RMHost. 3.2 DynaText Two DynaText guides are added to the ADS manual set, depending on your RMHost 1.0 installation specifications: ARM RMTarget Integration Guide ARM RMHost User Guide. A viewer for the DynaText files is installed if you have chosen to install these guides during RMHost installation. The viewer might also be present on your system if you have chosen to install DynaText as part of the ADS installation. (The ADS manuals are installed by default in a typical or full installation of ADS.) To display the online documentation, type dtext from within the dtext41/bin directory of the ADS installation. 3.3 Adobe Acrobat Reader The ARM RMTarget Integration Guide and ARM RMHost User Guide are also provided on the CD-ROM in Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) format. To view these guides, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system. This is provided with both ADS and RMHost for Unix. You can also obtain it from the website If you have installed the PDF files as part of installation, the guides are in ADS_install_directory/common/pdf. To consult either of the guides: 1.
