1 INFRARED TERM 2000 cabins with Philips VITAE lamps Until lately, there were just Infra Red cabins using the medium-wave (IR-B) and long-wave (IR-C) lamps, so-called: not shining or black available in retail. Due to the analysis and implementing to production the unique VITAE lamps emitting infra red in short-wave IR-A, it is possible to provide the curative thermal radiation to the deep hypodermic layers (down to 5 mm), and that improves the curative properties of Infra Red cabins a lot. General information. The main source of radiation to which human beings are exposed, is Sun. It refers to the ultraviolet (UV) included in the daylight, as well as the IR radiation. Below, there are general information concerning thermal influence of radiation (especially IR) to human body presented in the table. As the wave length grows, starting from the UV, via the visible VIS light, up to IR emission, the photochemical activity decreases. The photo biological effect becomes the main phenomenon for analysing in the Infra Red sphere. The biological effect of short-wave infra red radiation consists in its thermal influence on the tissues, which undoubtedly gives the strengthening and therapeutic effects. The IR short-wave heating abilities are exposed due to their deep penetration to skin layers, and conducting properties of water consisting tissues. Philips VITAE lamps and Sun. Sun can be treated as black radiating body (with the temperature of different colours in the range of Kelvin degree). Theoretically, the black body is the source emitting the energy according to the basic physics rules. For practical reasons the range of waves length of optical radiation is divided (according to CEI) into seven wavebands.
2 The total Sun radiation in the atmosphere is 1120W/m². UV-C and IR-C rays are absorbed by atmosphere. Such fixed value is defined in the determined atmospheric conditions: in tropics, at noon, on the sea level ground point. The IR-A and IR-B cover out of it W/m², which is 45% of the initial power of a daylight in the above described conditions. Conclusion 400W/m² is the level of infra red radiation intensity recommended by Philips. It is ensured in IR TERM 2000 cabins by especially chosen VITAE emitters (in order to achieve the optimal body heating session). Optically, the skin can be treated as a heterogeneous environment consisting of four layers: horny layer to 50 µm, epidermis layer µm, skin to 3mm, hypodermic layer from 3 mm. Those layers have different coefficient of refractions and placing the absorbing elements (chromophores). Due to that, the human skin has different properties of reflection, transmitting and dissipating, depending on wave length. Below, there is a schematic epitomization of the skin layers and the deepness of infiltration in wave length function. IR-A reaches the hypodermic layers (to 5 mm) and that's why the heat is concentrated in bigger dose, giving the more pleasant way of heating (more diffused/wide and more pleasant). IR-B and IR-C are absorbed by the upper skin layers. The heat concentrated in smaller dose leads immediately to higher temperature. As the nerves sensitive to heat are also located in the upper skin layer, the pain threshold will be achieved immediately. Shortly speaking, IR-B and IR-C allow to warn the sensors reacting to the pain, placed shortly under the epidermis in order not to damage the body by IR-A radiation.
3 VITAE lamps ensure the total decomposition within the Infra Red spectrum, among it IR-A, IR-B and IR-C. They offer the optimal balance thoroughly the Infra Red spectrum, connecting two main advantages: the delicate heat infiltration by IR-A delivering, that is comparable to Sun. the safety to a body, at five times bigger than Sun quantity of IR-B and IR-C, with no fear of overheating a body. The psychological effect. It is proven, that body temperature influences the broadly understood mental and physical activity. In such case, Infra Red radiation is used as a regulator that influences the general level of the activity. That reaction is partly autonomous, but also depends on the sensors placed in a body, responsible for cold, heat and pain. Heat is generated in a human body due to food assimilation, muscles exercises and all life processes contributed to the basic metabolism. The heat loss from a body occurs by the radiation, conductivity, water evaporating through the skin, and the respiratory system. The level of balance between heat created and lost, determines body temperature. Body heat therm-regulation a human body's normal temperature is about 37 C and fluctuates (0,5 0,7 C), depending on the outside conditions. In order to keep the heat balance, due to instinctive reactions, a human body keeps its temperature within the limits of some closed range (no matter to temperatures' fluctuations). Due to the basic metabolic processes, a grownup produces in fact heat of 100W (without any activity). There are four ways of piping the heat from a body: radiation (when a skin temperature is higher than environment temperature), convection and conductivity, transpiration, breathing.
4 Heat therm-regulation during the session in IR cabin: The temperature in the cabin is closed to 55 C, so it is higher than body's temperature. body's temperature grows slowly (0,5 to 1,6 C) s o the heat balance upsets, the excess of heat accumulated is dissipated with the transpiration, the continuous heat delivering warms up the skin slowly, and as a result, the body's temperature exceeds the heat balance. To ensure itself the biggest possible advantages from the session in IR cabin, and to keep body's heat balance, it is recommended not to exceed minutes of the session's time duration. The Finnish sauna and IR cabin The Finnish sauna and IR cabins, too, have in view to higher the body temperature, however, using different methods. In Finnish sauna, there is C temperature kept, at 15% of re lative humidity. Heat is delivered to the body directly through the IR-C long-wave radiation from the heated walls and stones, and through the convection from the heated air, and the conducting from the warm seats. In IR cabin the temperature kept as a target is on the level of C. The delivered heat comes in the phase of cabin heating, directly from the source of IR radiation, and then, later through the warm air, heated by TERM2000 lamps. IR cabins: long waves and VITAE lamps. The existing IR cabins are not equal, they vary with the heat source. Below, there are the main factors determining choosing the heat source: IR-A, IR-B and IR-C fission and decomposition time of heating in a cabin
5 VITAE lamps emit full IR spectrum, especially IR-A which deliver the more radiated heat. As a result, they ensure faster and more comfortable heating. Saunas and IR cabins with not shining lamps emit IR-B (in a small percent) and IR-C (mainly). Such emission is more convection than radiated, and the infra-red heating ray penetration is negligible (to 0,15 mm). VITAE lamps are the specialist range of IR heating sources. By delivering the cold heat they ensure the expected effect in Infra Red cabin. Sum up, TERM2000 lamps with Philips Vitae emitters are: the immediate heat source (any other IR solution heats as quick as Philips VITAE lamps), the optimal IR spectrum decomposition to be used in a cabin (the temperature of 1750 K) gives a low level of bli nding lamplight, the mild decomposition of light and heat in IR cabin, the body-safe source of heating (quartz tube has low internal pressure, and that protects the explosion risk). VITAE lamps and eyes safety Philips VITAE lamps are created for using in home saunas and recreational complex. The safety parameters used had their users' goods in view. However, when using IR cabin, be careful not to: stare at the emitter from a short distance, at a long time, exceed minutes of the maximum session time.
