1 PC EXECUTIVE CAREER MENTOR PROGRAM WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND HOW TO APPLY

2 About the Mentor Program It is a 2 year program for juniors that provides an opportunity to receive advice and guidance in regards to their career plans. It is an opportunity to build a relationship with an executive through structured and nonstructured activities. It is a chance to meet a variety of professionals that can give a competitive edge in an internship/job search, or grad school application process.

3 Program Structure The Mentor Program is made up of required and optional activities in order to help the students and mentors build a successful relationship. The Mentor Program is designed with little requirements so that each pair can do what makes sense for them, and best fits their schedules.

4 Who the Mentors Are Our mentors are community leaders and executives, many of whom are alumni that want to support the career development of PC students by volunteering to be part of the Mentor Program. Our mentors represent a variety of career fields.

5 Required Activities Face to Face Meeting All students and mentors start off their relationship by having a meeting in order to make introductions and determine mutual goals for the relationship. Shadowing Day Shadowing your mentor gives you the chance to spend a day together so that you can really understand what their career is all about. Keeping in Touch A relationship requires keeping in touch. It doesn t have to happen every day or week, but a quick , phone call or getting together will help foster the relationship. We strongly encourage some level of interaction every 3 4 weeks.

6 Planned Events Basketball Game Watch a PC basketball game from the suite, connect with your mentor and others in the program. Hockey Game Watch a PC hockey game, connect with your mentor and others in the program. End of the Year Dinner End the year with a full course dinner, connect with your mentor and join us as we wish the best to the seniors and their mentors.

7 Optional Activities By participating in the required activities and planned events you will be able to build a relationship that will give you career guidance. However, by arranging additional activities you will be able to create a life long relationship that will provide you with a competitive in your career. Some activities mentors and students have done in the past include: Career Assistance: Have your mentor review your resume, prep you for an interview, assist you with a cover letter. Lunch or Dinner: Meet up with your mentor for lunch, dinner or even a cup of coffee it s a nice way to catch up. Pair Up: Do you have a friend in the program? Does your mentor? You could pair up with another mentor and student for dinner or a PC BB game. Invite Your Mentor to PC: Ask your mentor to deliver a presentation to a class or club meeting.

8 The Benefits You will expand your knowledge of career and industry trends. You will gain professional competencies and experience. You will develop networking contacts and referrals. You will advance your plans for internships, jobs and/or further schooling.

9 The Selection Process Application Materials The Career Education Center will carefully review your application and resume. Interview Selected students will be invited to interview with the Career Education Center. References The Career Education Center will call references to gather additional information on the final candidates. Matches Student Mentor matches will be made based on all application materials and the requirements of each individual mentor.

10 Timeline Friday, October 2 Application Deadline! October 7 13 Selected students will be asked to sign up for an interview date and time. October 16 Students will be notified if they have been matched to a mentor. October 21 & 22 Mentor Program Orientation this is a mandatory session for all students who have been selected to participate in the PC Executive Career Mentor Program.

11 How to Apply Before you apply, it is best to read each step first so you have an understanding of the process. A few things to keep in mind: You will need to have a copy of your resume. You will have to scroll through the opportunities, find the opportunity (or two) that you are interested in, then take time to complete the application.

12 Step 1: Review the Opportunities All mentor opportunities and the application are located in efriars: Log on to efriars: Username: PC Address Password: Your full banner ID Click on the Resource Library located on the left side bar Scroll through the opportunities and review the ones that match your interest KEEP AN OPEN MIND A title or industry does not always explain everything a mentor does orhastooffer.readprofilesthat match your interest as well as ones you are not sure about!

13 Step 2: Complete the Application Once you are ready to apply, complete the application You Can Choose 2 Youcanchoosetoapplyto2mentor opportunities on the application. Be sure you have you choice or choices ready so you can complete the application in one step.

14 Step 3: Submit Your Application Drop off your application and a copy of your resume to the Career Education Center, Slavin 108 by Wednesday, October 2 nd.
