P+F sensors meet NFPA standards and are UL listed. Additionally, P+F sensors are CSA and approved for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Typically, discrete inputs are dry contact closures, however, they could be potential-free transistors or proximity sensors. P+F inductive and capacitive proximity sensors, specially designed for use in hazardous areas, are certified for all hazardous area classifications when connected to P+F switch isolators. Switch isolators are not limited to intrinsic safety applications; they can also be used as amplifiers for sensors. The figure at right shows a proximity sensor connected to a singlechannel switch isolator.
