2 Proximity Sensors, Magnetic Field Sensors.3 Proximity Switches Introduction to Magnetic Field Sensors Unlike inductive or capacitive proximity switches, magnetic field sensors react to the presence of a magnetic field, regardless of whether this field is generated by an electromagnet or a permanent magnet. These side curves are responsible for maintaining a specific minimum distance between the magnet and the sensor to ensure safe switching behavior. A permanent magnet DM60 is used as a base for determining the rated sensing range (Sn). The magnet has a diameter of 3 mm and a height of 5 mm with a remanence B r of 380 to 00 mt. Mounting Conditions for Magnetic Field Sensors Due to the passive character of magnetic field sensors, unlike inductive or capacitive sensors, they can be flush mounted without affecting the operating distance. In contrast, the mounting conditions of the actuating magnet affect the operating distance. If the magnet is applied to a magnetizable carrier, the obtainable operating distance increases slightly. When the magnet passes laterally over the surface of the sensor, a polaritydependent response curve is produced. The response curve represents the sensing range of the sensor. The result is a bipolar alignment of the magnet: two symmetric curves. If the magnet is inserted flush into a magnetizable carrier material, the operating distance is considerably reduced by the magnetic "short circuit" through the carrier material. 380 USA: Germany: Singapore:

3 Proximity Switches Introduction to Magnetic Field Sensors Magnetic "Penetrating Sensors" for Hydraulic Cylinders The MB-F32 magnetic field sensor has a unique special feature. The sensor enables one of the pistons to be detected through the wall of a steel hydraulic cylinder. Once the piston passes under the sensor, the sensor generates a switching signal. This special function means that the sensor can be used to determine the position of the piston and also to count the piston strokes. Functional description of magnetic penetrating sensors The MB-F32 sensor reacts to low-level magnetic fields in the wall of the cylindermagnetic fields. It requires a magnetic field change in order to change its switching state. In the example below, the magnetic pole shoe of the piston induces a partial magnetic field in the steel cylinder wall. The sensor switches once the partial magnetic field passes under the sensor. Mounting magnetic penetrating sensors The MB-F32 magnetic field sensor is positioned on the outer surface of the steel cylinder wall and secured using a tightening strap. To create a functional system, a special pole shoe must be mounted to the piston inside the hydraulic cylinder. The shape and geometric dimensions of the pole shoe as well as the size and number of magnets depends on the configuration of the respective cylinder piston system.
