2 D87/D88/D9/D9A/D9E Installation Guide.0 Overview.0 Overview The D87/D88/D9/D9A/D9E Smoke Detector Bases are designed for use with the D8 Ionization Smoke Detector, D8/D8TH Photoelectric Smoke Detectors, and D0/D0/D0 Heat Detectors. Install these bases according to the National Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 7. Before installing a smoke detector base, read and understand this and the following documents to ensure proper system operation: D8/D8TH Installation Instructions (P/N: 09) D8 Installation Instructions (P/N: 0) D0/D0/D0 Installation Instructions (P/N: 70) NFPA Standard 7 This document covers only the information necessary to mount and wire the bases. Other information is available from: Two-wire compatibility information in the Technical Service Note: Two-Wire Smoke Detector Compatibility (P/N: 8) Installation guidelines in the Technical Service Note: Smoke Detector Installation Considerations (P/N: 7) Information about power requirements, testing, and maintenance in the D8/D8TH Installation Instructions (PN: 09), D8 Installation Instructions (PN: 0), and D0/D0/D0 Installation Instructions (PN: 70). - D87 Base only, two-wire - D88 Base only, two-wire, wide diameter - D9 Base only, four-wire - D9A Base only, four-wire, Form C Auxiliary relay - D9E Base only for power supervision, fourwire, end-of-line (EOL) relay, Normally Open (N/O) auxiliary relay - D9S Base only, four-wire with sounder - D7 EOL supervision module for four-wire systems A is the Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) compatibility identifier for the D8, D8/D8TH, D0/D0/D0 Smoke Detectors. To determine the identifier used with the D87, refer to the Technical Service Note: Two-Wire Smoke Detector Compatibility (P/N: 8). Detector Power Requirements Standby Voltage: - Two-wire: 8. VDC to.0 VDC - Four-wire: 0 VDC to 0 VDC Alarm Current Two-wire: Dependent on the control panel that must limit the alarm current to 00 ma maximum Four-wire: - D9: ma at VDC; ma at VDC (70 ma maximum at 0 VDC) - D9A: 8 ma at VDC; ma at VDC (7 ma maximum at 0 VDC) - D9E: 8 ma at VDC; 8 ma at VDC (00 ma maximum at 0 VDC) - D9S: ma at VDC; ma at VDC; Sounder ma at VDC, ma at VDC Bosch Security Systems, Inc. /0 F0U

Install these bases according to the National Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 7.

Pre-run all system wiring to the base locations.. Mount the base using the two oblong mounting holes.. Tighten the base to the mounting surface.. If mounting to in. (0 cm) square boxes, use the adapter plate. First, mount the adapter plate to the box, then mount the base to the adapter plate and box using the oblong mounting holes. Refer to Figure..0 Two-Wire Detector Wiring Refer to Figure and Table for the D87 and D88 terminal functions. Ensure the volume of any electrical box you use accommodates the number and size of conductors as specified by the National Electrical Code (NEC) or any local regulations having jurisdiction.. Cut, strip, and insert the In/Out wires as individual ends for terminal connection.. EOL Resistors Use the EOL resistors supplied or ones specified by the control panel manufacturer. This includes EOL resistors used with the D7 Module.. D7 Power Supervision Relay Refer to Figure for the D7 wiring. Figure : D7 Wiring. The yellow wire remains unconnected. - Cut loop for VDC - Smoke power positive (+) - Smoke power negative (-) - Alarm loop - D7 EOL power supervision module - A = Red wire (+ V) When using the D7 with VDC systems, connect the yellow wire to Terminal on the last base in the run. The red wire remains unconnected. Use one D7 per loop with the D9 and D9A. - B = Yellow wire (+ V) - C = Black wire (common) - D = Blue wires - End-of-line resistor The D9 is the standard smoke detector base used in four-wire configurations. The contacts are rated at 0. A at VAC and at.0 A at 0 VDC for resistive loads. Do not use the D9A with inductive or capacitive loads. ( ) (+) - Cut loop for VDC - Smoke power negative (-) - Smoke power positive (+) - N/O auxiliary contacts - Alarm loop - End-of-line resistor The D9E provides a set of N/O alarm loop contacts and an auxiliary set of N/O contacts. The contacts are rated at 0. A at VAC, and at.0 A at 0 VDC for resistive loads. Do not use the D9E with inductive or capacitive loads. The D9E also provides EOL power supervision using a built-in relay. This eliminates the need for separate power supervision devices such as the D7.
