1 PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release MAHKOTA MEDICAL CENTRE RAISES AWARENESS ON DIABETES THROUGH CHARITY RUN Melaka, 10 August 2016 According to a report published in The Star newspaper, about 3.5 million or 17.5 per cent Malaysians aged 18 years and above have diabetes. Our Deputy Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahya also mentioned that based on the National Health and Morbidity Survey 2015 (NHMS), 1.8 million of the 3.5 million diabetics were unaware that they have diabetes. In our efforts to raise awareness about diabetes, Mahkota Medical Centre in partnership with Affin Hwang Asset Management Berhad, Malacca Skyhawk Marathon Club and Lee Youth Caring Fund, will be organising Mahkota Charity Run on 6 November This is the third year in which this event is organised and this follows on the success of Mahkota Charity Run 2015 held last year whereby a total of RM107, was raised by Mahkota Cancer Centre to benefit patients with cancer. This year, the effort is spearheaded by Mahkota Diabetes Centre and as such, the theme of the race is Sugar Rush and targets 1, 500 participants. All proceeds will be channelled to the Lee Youth Caring Fund for the benefit of diabetic patients who are unable to afford treatment. Apart from the Men s / Women s 12km run category, the hospital has also introduced a new category, 6km Fun Run that is

2 opened to public aged 7 years and above, providing that participants aged between 7 to 15 years old must be accompanied by their parents / guardians. The public are greatly encouraged to register via and participate to raise funds for this worthy cause before 15 September. Manual registration can also be done at information counter at Mahkota, Affin Hwang Asset Management Berhad (Melaka Branch) or Lee Association. The race will flag off and conclude at Mahkota Medical Centre. The flag off time is 7.00 a.m. and will take approximately 2.5 hours to complete. A day before the run takes place, Mahkota Diabetes Centre will be celebrating its first anniversary with the theme Healthy Living and Diabetes. Held in concurrence with World Diabetes Day, this celebration aims to raise awareness about diabetes and the importance of practising a healthy lifestyle. Some of the activities lined for that day are complimentary health check, booth exhibition, health talk, lucky draw and the unveiling of the winners of Inspirational Role Model of The Year for the Centre. In conjunction to the Diabetes Day celebration and charity run, the Centre is offering two special promotions i.e. (i) Mahkota Diabetes Package at RM299 + free glucometer, (ii) Foot Dressing - Buy 4 free 2 sessions. These promotions are up for purchase only during the two-day event.

3 MAHKOTA DIABETES CENTRE Mahkota Diabetes Centre was officially launched last year. It is committed to improve the quality of life and to delay long term complications for diabetic patients. The Centre also provides an avenue for the consultants to refer their patients for diabetes care counselling and health education. This is the first of such a centre that is set up in a private hospital in Melaka. The team at Mahkota Diabetes Centre consist of consultants, diabetes educators, dietitians and physiotherapists working in close collaboration to provide the best personalised care for patients.
