4 Strategic Board Lord Charles Falconer Chair Lord Charles Falconer is an acclaimed commercial barrister and Labour politician. Appointed Solicitor General in 1997, Lord Falconer s influence determined his varied and senior political career path. He joined the Cabinet Office a year later becoming involved with critical issues facing Government until election in After the general election, Lord Falconer led public service reform in his roles as: y Minister for Housing, Planning and Regeneration y Minister for Criminal Justice, Sentencing and Law Reform. Lord Falconer holds several other non executive positions: y Chairman of Newcastle and Gateshead s City Development Company y Chair of Thames Gateway London Partnership y Partner at international legal firm Gibson Dunn. In 2010, Nottingham Trent University awarded Lord Falconer an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD). In 2003, Lord Falconer became Lord Chancellor but abolished the office through constitutional reform. In 2007, he became Secretary of State and Government Spokesperson for Constitutional Affairs and Justice. This role gave him international recognition and influence as he dealt with Presidents and Prime Ministers of world leading countries. 4 Strategic Board - Making homes, helping people
5 Steve Douglas Vice Chair Steve is a well known and respected housing expert. His social housing history spans over 20 years and began as an Intern at the New York City Department of Planning and Urban Development. His career features significant Chief Executive appointments, including ASRA housing association and most notably the Housing Corporation. In this role, Steve oversaw the regulation of England s 2,000 housing associations. He also managed the transfer of its roles and functions into the Tenant Services Authority (TSA) and Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). including, Board member at English Partnerships and member of the Government s Commission on Integration and Cohesion. Currently a Partner with Altair the housing and regeneration consultancy, Steve specialises in leadership and change management. He offers wide experience of housing, regeneration and community development at both a strategic and operational delivery level. Steve led the creation of the National Affordable Homes Programme investment-partnering framework currently used by the HCA, which funds affordable housing in England. Steve has extensive non executive experience in the sector 5
6 Strategic Board Andrew Wiseman Andrew is an experienced residential developer of mixed tenure housing developments. Andrew has been a principal director and shareholder in publicly quoted residential developers since He founded an East London developer in 2000, Telford Homes Plc, which builds homes for open market sale as well as affordable homes for social rent, affordable rent and for shared ownership housing. Having been Chief Executive until 2011, Andrew is now Executive Chairman of Telford Homes Plc and is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Beverley Spear Beverley has worked in social housing for over 25 years. Beverley found her niche during her first housing role as a Development Project Manager for East London Housing Association. She continued to progress in regeneration and development roles for organisations like Circle 33, Asra Greater London, English Partnerships and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). Beverley has an excellent understanding of business, strategic risk and contract management, and procurement. Beverley now heads up her own consultancy firm specialising in development and regeneration projects and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing (FCIH). 6 Strategic Board - Making homes, helping people
7 Mike Davis Mike is a social housing expert with 36 years experience working for local authorities. Mike spent the last 10 years as Director of Housing for Croydon Council. In this role, he developed a strong and successful partnership with tenants and leaseholders. As a result, Croydon Council was one of four local authorities nationally awarded Beacon status by Government for Improving Services by Involving Tenants. Other notable positions for Mike include Chair of the London Housing Directors Group and lead Housing Director for the South West London Housing Partnership. Mike led on partnership working with Government, other registered social landlords, residents, the Housing Corporation and local politicians. Mike is currently a non executive Board Member for Sutton Housing Partnership. 7
8 Strategic Board Neil Robertson Neil is an experienced HR and former FTSE Director with a 30 year track record of delivery in a world class, international environment. He has held previous non executive board appointments. Previously a Director at the Department for International Development until October 2012 where his responsibilities include human resources, overseas estates and security. Neil was Director for People at British Airways (BA) until his retirement in 2007 following a long career. In this time, he saw BA move from a public sector organisation to a private one; take on a more customer centric approach and undergo a merger with British Caledonian and alliance with American Air. A member of the Institute of Directors and Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Directors, Neil completed the Advanced Programme in Organisation Development and Human Resource Management at Columbia University in New York, and Executive Business Programme at Stanford University in California. He has been one of the Mentors with the Institute of Chartered Accountants new Leadership Programme (F-TEN). 8 Strategic Board - Making homes, helping people
9 David Oliver The guiding principles of David s career covering private equity, catering and outdoor advertising have been growing people and businesses. As an accountant he has a keen focus on all things financial but also has plenty of experience in other areas of business at both a strategic and operational level. He was particularly pleased to have been responsible for Clear Channel being a Sunday Times top 50 green company. He has enjoyed his work as an independent Director for a variety of organisations such as Westway Development Trust and Sport England that are trying to make a real difference to people s lives and their community. He has a particular interest in measuring the outcomes and efficiency of delivery of projects to ensure resources are employed to maximum benefit. David Clifford David s background is very much a financial one having spent most of his working life with KPMG, an international accounting firm. In addition to providing audit and investigation services, David looked after a wide range of clients and managed various parts of the firm s business. He was actively involved with Business in the Community, as Chair of their Avon Leadership Team, when he ran KPMG s Bristol office. Since retiring from KPMG David has become a Non-Executive Director of Carpetright plc; where he chairs the audit committee. He is also a Trustee and the Treasurer of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, which provides welfare and support to former Gurkhas and their communities, principally in Nepal. David was also the Treasurer and Company Secretary of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation, which developed and ran the Thames River Pageant to celebrate HM The Queen s 9
10 Strategic Executive Board Team Paul Crouch Before joining the Board in 2010, Paul was an active member of our resident focused governance structure. He was Chair of Sussex West Area Panel and member of the Residents Council. Paul s professional background is in sound recording. He also works in the security and event production industries. As Chair of the Hedgehog Housing Co-op, Paul led a successful community self-build project for social rent in Brighton. Paul is particularly interested in community development, communications and resident involvement. He is a member of AmicusHorizon s Audit Committee and Board representative on IFORE (Innovation for Renewal) our international retrofit project focusing on regeneration work whilst taking a green approach. Nick Stephenson Through a two decade career in economic development, Nick is experienced in supporting organisations to develop their employment and training offers. He has raised more than 50 million from European, government and regional sources to support this work. And developed innovative award-winning models of delivery to unemployed people and those with low skill levels. As a consultant he has provided strategic support across the public, private and voluntary sectors, including to organisations working on big infrastructure projects in the 2012 Olympics and Crossrail. He has served on AmicusHorizon s London South East Area Panel and Homeowners Task Group. Nick believes in prioritising quality outcomes with high levels of customer input in his working life, and has brought this to Amicus Horizon s governance. 10 Strategic Board - Making homes, helping people
11 Strategic Executive Team Paul Hackett Chief Executive Paul was appointed as Chief Executive in He was previously Chief Operating Officer for four years and oversaw the transformation of service delivery and achieved notable award success. AmicusHorizon is now benchmarked number one in g15 for business and customer service KPIs. Achievements also include a raft of awards including Social Landlord of the Year, Britain s Top Employers, Sunday Times Best Companies, Customer Service Excellence accreditation and Investors in People Gold. Paul worked with residents to create a ground breaking resident governance structure. The regulator recognised the quality of our approach by awarding AmicusHorizon Co-regulatory Champion status. Paul also served on the DCLG s Ministerial Sounding Board on resident engagement. Under Paul s leadership AmicusHorizon increased the scale of our development programme, completing more homes than ever before in Before joining AmicusHorizon, Paul was Executive Director: Development and New Business with Moat. He led Moat s merger with Bourne Housing Society and oversaw a number of major regeneration projects including Moat s first PFI. Before joining Moat, Paul spent over eight years at the London and Quadrant Group. He set up and ran London and Quadrant Forest Homes - a stock transfer subsidiary in East London. Paul s last role at London and Quadrant was to establish an intermediate market rent business for key workers. Paul is a Chartered Surveyor and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing. 11
12 Strategic Executive Team Sarah Smith Executive Director Finance and Resources Sarah joined AmicusHorizon in March 2009 as Finance and Resources Director. She is responsible for all finance, treasury, IT, audit and risk functions. She previously worked at London and Quadrant Group as Head of Financial Services and then Director of Financial Services. Since joining AmicusHorizon, Sarah restored financial strength through: y Credit rating with Moody s y Debut 100m bond issue y Fully funded development programme and reduced refinancing risk y Developed strong assurance framework, supported by: Effective risk management In house internal audit function Delivered value for money 7.8m savings over three years Introduced VFM task group with resident involvement. Sarah is a member of the National Housing Federation s Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) working party. She sits on the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) social housing sub-committee. 12 Strategic Board - Making homes, helping people
13 Jane Porter Executive Director - Operations Jane was appointed as our Executive Director - Operations, in January She has strategic responsibility for all front line services including: y Housing Management y Response - our award winning call centre y Income management y Home Ownership y Asset Management y Procurement y Sustainability y Health and Safety. Jane joined AmicusHorizon in July 2008 as Interim Chief Executive of 1066 Housing Association and Executive Director of Rother Homes. Both companies were subsidiaries of AmicusHorizon Group Ltd. She became Regional Director, Sussex, following the amalgamation of all the Group s subsidiaries in In 2012 she took on the same role for London, becoming Regional Director, London and Surrey. Jane has worked in London and the South East for over 25 years. She has held senior executive roles in housing, development and home ownership. 13
14 Strategic Executive Team Mark Miles Lea Executive Director Commercial Mark was appointed as Executive Director - Commercial, in January Mark has strategic responsibility for all commercial aspects of the organisation, including: y Our development programme across south London and Surrey, Kent and Sussex y Our commercial property portfolio y Stock rationalisation and acquisition. Previously Mark had been Commercial Director at AmicusHorizon since January Mark s background is in development. He started as a Development Officer for Swale Housing in 1993, and progressed to become Development Director for AmicusHorizon, before taking on new roles. Mark is a Chartered Surveyor. Kate Dodsworth Executive Director People and Strategy Kate was appointed Executive Director People and Strategy, in March She has responsibility for organisational strategy and external relationships including: y HR and Organisational Development y Co-regulation y Communications y Planning and performance y External Affairs. Kate joined AmicusHorizon in January 2013 as Director of Policy and External Affairs. She started her housing career in homelessness and mental health. After completing a Masters Degree in Housing, Kate joined the National Housing Federation where she covered a variety of policy and lobbying roles over nine years. She was Assistant Director for London, South East and East of England before joining AmicusHorizon. Kate is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Housing. She s also an examiner for the University of Westminster and a Board Member of Southdown Housing Association. 14 Strategic Board - Making homes, helping people
