3 Payroll issues including auto enrolment - 7 September 2015 Jeremy Mindell is an accomplished and entertaining speaker, and is in high demand for tax, pensions, share schemes and remuneration events. Jeremy is one of the few individuals in the country who has qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor but also has a Masters from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. He is on the IFS Pro-Share advisory panel and a member of the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisors. The main challenge for payroll in the last few years has been digesting the changes that have been working through the system from the largest to the smallest employers. These include: real time information; auto-enrolment; post termination payments; national insurance changes; the end of contracting out; pay rolling benefits; the reform of expenses inspired by the OTS; and PAYE for non-tax approved share schemes. These changes to tax and national insurance are mainly the product of a phased implementation. It is now down to the smallest employers, who are generally least well equipped and resourced, to comply. The course looks at practical, common-sense, economic solutions to these challenges Pensions update - 5 October 2015 Kevin Read is self-employed as a Professional Tutor and Training Consultant and he specialises in writing and presenting update courses for accountants, private client managers and lawyers. He is a regular presenter of webinars and classroom courses for major training firms and has been delivering courses for SWAT for several years. He also presents tax updates on a variety of topics to local societies of ICAEW and at ACCA conferences. The tax rules for pensions have changed several times in recent years, particularly concerning the amount of taxrelieved annual pension inputs permitted and the maximum pension rights that can be built up before retirement. George Osborne s surprise announcement in the March 2014 Budget that he would remove the restrictions when accessing the benefits from money purchase schemes has led to a raft of new rules, contained in the Taxation of Pensions Act 2014 (TPA 2014). This new flexibility, as well as increasing the options available to a pension investor, produces a number of new complications and traps which you should be aware of. This course will explain all the new pension terminology and, with the aid of numerical examples, show what the new rules mean in practice. Topical tax tips - 2 November 2015 Tim Good BA (Oxon) ACA is one of the founding partners of The Professional Training Partnership. Tim is also a director of PTP Ltd, PTP Interactive Ltd and Absolute Accounting Software Ltd and is Chairman of The Tax Club. Tim is one of the most prolific lecturers on the post-qualified tax lecture circuit and lectures several times each week to professional audiences all over the country. He has the ability to make even the most obscure tax point crystal clear and the most mundane topic entertaining and informative. The course will make you aware of the latest developments in direct taxes which give rise to planning opportunities and pitfalls that you and your clients need to exploit or avoid. Full coverage will be made of all relevant press releases, statements of practice and case law decisions, and the emphasis will fall heavily on the practical ways in which you can help your clients to exploit the opportunities and avoid the pitfalls. Content will include: personal tax; employee tax; national insurance; business income tax; corporation tax; capital gains tax; and inheritance tax. Property and construction taxes - 7 December 2015 Dr Ros Martin is a consultant and lecturer covering all aspects of direct tax and Stamp Duty Land Tax. Until 2002, Ros was a fully trained Inland Revenue Inspector. She is now a consultant advising on tax planning for large and small businesses and individuals, as well as dealing with full and aspect enquiry work. Her clients are mainly small and medium-sized accountancy practices. Her consultancy work means she understands the key issues of concern for accountancy professionals, and the practical application of the legislation. The course provides a good overview of a number of areas of property and construction taxes including: current issues for buy-to-let landlords; new rules for non-residents owning property in the UK; impact of changes to private residence relief; and construction industry scheme update.

4 Charity and not for profit organisation update incl. clubs and friendly societies etc - 8 February 2016 Tony Austin has been a chartered accountant and tax specialist for over 30 years. Tony has specialised in advising charities on direct taxation matters, particularly those relating to trading, Gift Aid and other tax effective giving and the establishment and running of trading subsidiaries. He was the charity tax partner at BDO and Mazars and he writes for Tolleys Charities Manual and lectures on direct tax issues for charities and donors. Through his work with the Charities Tax Group, he is involved in the consultation process with HMRC on the application and reform of tax legislation affecting the not for profit sector. The course will cover the latest changes in direct tax law and HMRC practice affecting charities etc. In particular it will cover: changes announced in the Chancellor s Autumn Statement and ongoing consultations; Gift Aid and Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme; Gift Aid for membership and supporter schemes and charity shops; trading and other sources of potentially taxable income; legitimate ways of avoiding a tax charge, including use of a subsidiary; and donor tax reliefs and tainted donations. Share valuations and other assets for tax purposes - 7 March 2016 David Craddock is an independent consultant specialising in employee share ownership and reward management. He is a recognised authority on employee share ownership and is the author of The Tolley s Guide to Employee Share Schemes and The ICSA Employee Share Schemes Handbook. David is the senior examiner for The European Centre for Employee Ownership and The ESOP Institute in London in relation to The Certificate in Employee Share Ownership Studies, the material for which he is the author and the principal authority. Course objectives: to provide a detailed understanding of the principles and practices of share and asset valuation; to illustrate the application of the principles and practices of valuation with easy-to-understand examples; and to include explanations of how to deal with the most controversial aspects of share and asset valuation. Accountancy update - 11 April 2016 John Selwood is a chartered accountant and independent training consultant, who lectures for major accountancy practices, professional bodies, training companies and publishers. Previously, he has been the technical partner for a top 30 firm of accountants and head of an accountancy network. John is a member of ICAEW s Audit and Assurance Faculty s Practitioner Services Committee and he has written and presented material for the Audit and Assurance and Financial Reporting Faculties roadshows for a number of years. This course will help you understand the practical impact of the UK GAAP accounting standards on all sizes of companies and be aware what has to be done by different types of entities and by when. Content may change as a result of developments but is likely to include: practical problems with FRS 102 and planning for small company adoption; the latest on micro company accounting and FRS 105; other current developments and issues in UK GAAP; accounting and reporting areas where frequent mistakes are discovered; developments in specialist areas including the revised SORPs; and regulatory changes and QAD feedback on Practice Assurance. Finance Bill May 2016 Tim Good BA (Oxon) ACA is one of the founding partners of The Professional Training Partnership. This course will familiarise you with the current Finance Bill. All of the major changes in the Finance Bill will be explained, in the context of the clients whose affairs will be affected. Identified planning areas and pitfalls will be covered. Other current developments in taxation as they affect you and your clients may also be included, depending on the significance and relevance of the Finance Bill. Course content: business income tax; corporation tax; employee tax and national insurance contributions; personal tax; capital gains tax; inheritance tax and administration; and more.
