2 WHERE WE STARTED FROM AND MEMBERSHIP REFORM Why? To support our vision for CIH to be the first port of call for people involved in the sector To identify any barriers to people becoming members of CIH To ensure that CIH continues to be relevant to future members and employers
3 KEY FINDINGS grading structure was too complicated need to examine how we charge for membership reverse loyalty benefits weren t valued not attractive access to higher grades of membership was felt to be too restrictive
4 SIMPLIFIED GRADE STRUCTURE then and now Fellow (FCIH) Corporate (MCIH) Practitioner (Cert CIH) Associate (ACIH) Affiliate Student
5 MEMBER RECOGNITION Chartered more wider used to mean fully qualified Designatory words or letters for all members along with use of logo to make it easier to recognise achievement and commitment to the profession. CIH Member or CIHM CIH Chartered Member or CIHCM
6 GRADE ELIGIBILITY CIH Chartered Membership Met the academic requirements for CIH professional qualification Professional Qualification or undergrad or postgrad programmes APEX element now embedded into (most) centre programmes Senior route Direct Final Experiential route Portfolio Route
7 GRADE ELIGIBILITY CIH Member Interest/working in housing, holds no housing approved qualifications Studying a housing related course Has completed a CIH approved vocational qualification such as Cert level programme
8 MEMBER RECOGNITION CERT CIH Members who have completed a CIH Certificate course at Levels 2, 3 or 4 can also use Cert designation in conjunction with CIHM CIHM (Cert CIH 2) CIHM (Cert CIH 3) CIHM (Cert CIH 4)
9 CIH Certificate Level courses Include the following: CIH Level 2 Cert in Housing Practice (QCF) CIH Level 2 Award in Community Action in Housing CIH Level 3 Cert in Homeless People (QCF) CIH Level 4 Certificate in Housing Visit for full listings and details
10 MEMBER RECOGNITION - FELLOW Existing CIH Fellow members can choose to use the new designation CIH Chartered Member or CIHCM. Or alternatively can continue to use FCIH Any member who became a CIH Corporate member on or before the is eligible to continue to work towards and apply for Fellowship. The final date for applications to Fellowship is
11 MEMBERSHIP FEES Two price breaks offering transparency Discounted CIH Member fee for those who complete an approved Cert Courses Discounted fee for Chartered Members for first 5 years after qualification Fee for CIH Member Fee for CIH Chartered Member

15 EXPERIENTIAL ROUTE CHARTERED MEMBERSHIP Need to find a way of recognising achievement through experience not just through academic qualification. Need to maintain standards but be accessible Competency route: 360 degree questionnaire CPD and business impact submission Interview Piloted with 20 senior applicants who would normally follow the Direct Final route.
