3 WELCOME We are Hackney Learning Trust, a local authority providing a full range of competitive services to schools with a not-for-profit philosophy. They can provide support to develop leadership and management capacity, from Early Years to post-16. Their focus includes whole-school improvement, succession planning, the development of middle and aspiring leaders, and training for governors. We can offer a programme of school visits to support school leaders to evaluate the impact of their school s work. Each school will have an allocated Leadership and Management Adviser to work with school leaders throughout the school year. 21 EARLY YEARS EARLY YEARS support Making a lasting impression on Early Years achievements and outcomes. There have been significant increases in outcomes, as measured by the end of Foundation Stage profile, which now sees Hackney performing significantly above national averages. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) team that helped to deliver these developments comprises a range of experienced professionals with expertise in achieving better outcomes, using data analysis to enhance quality, improving early literacy and social and emotional well-being, working with parents and ensuring effective transitions. The benefits of a positive start to a child s learning in the Early Years continues to be seen throughout their school career. Early Years lays the foundations for future learning, so it is vital to get it right in terms of leadership, learning, providing a stimulating environment and establishing the right kind of early intervention for children who need additional support. The LIT Programme delivers a small group intervention to improve the reading and writing skills of struggling Year 7 pupils. It equips them with strategies for learning and understanding, as opposed to just decoding a piece of text. It is currently being used in over 180 Secondary schools in the United Kingdom. The programme targets pupils who are working below age related expectations, or on a National Curriculum (NC) level 2 or 3 for English. It aims to accelerate their progress so they can catch up and achieve NC level 4 by the end of Year 7. It improves pupils confidence so that they are able to work more independently.
