1 9th Grade Requirement - (Family Genealogy) Value = 10 pts. Total Pt. For this part of the project, each student is tasked with finding the names and ethnicities of your ancestors. Fill in the "Family Tree" PowerPoint that is accessible using the link below. Remember: You need to trace your family history for a minimum of four generations. This project is required for graduation and will be built upon each year of your high school career. Use the tree below to get the information before you enter information into the actual PowerPoint file. Adding Additional Generations To Your Family Tree PowerPoint: If you are able to find information on more than four generations of your family history, you may include those on your PowerPoint if you wish. To add additional generations to your "Family Tree PowerPoint" slide you must do the following: 1) Click on the family tree "Smart Art" on the slide. 2) Click on "Text Pane' in the "Design Tab" under "SmartArt Tools." Find the name of the person you want to add the parents of, (let's say your Mother's Paternal Grandmother). 3) Press <enter> after their name, then <tab> 4) Press <enter> one more time to create a box for both the father and mother. 2 10th Grade Requirement - (What's New In the Old Country?) Value = 65 pts. Total Pt. For this phase of the project, you will begin to assemble your final electronic presentation and then add on to it in both your Junior and Senior years. You have your choice of creating a PowerPoint, a PhotoStory, or using MovieMaker to create a movie. (NOTE: If you choose to change your method of presentation sometime prior to graduation, it will be your responsibility to transfer the information over.) Choose one of the countries from which your ancestors came. Then, find the following information and create your presentation: 1) A picture of the Flag from that particular country. (5 pts.) (Bonus pts for finding and including the meaning behind the various colors & symbols: 5pts.) 2) A map of the world with the country and its capital city clearly labeled. (5 pts.) 3) Its current population and where it is ranked among the other countries of the world. (5 pts.) 4) The current life expectancy of someone born in that country and where that ranks compared to the other countries of the world. (5 pts.) 5) The religion of the majority of people living in that country accompanied by a paragraph expalining the basic beliefs of that particular religion. (10 pts.) 6) The language spoken by the majority of the people and list 5 basic phrases in that language. (ex. Hello, How are you?, Please, Thank You, etc..) (10pts) 7) One major holiday that is celebrated in that country, why it is celebrated, and what customs are involved in their celebration of that particular holiday. (10 pts.) 8) One traditional recipe from that country. (5 pts.) (Bonus pts for including pictures of you preparing and eating it in your presentation: 5 pts.) 9) Include pictures and identification of one major tourist attraction located there. Tell why people would want to visit it and what there is to do there. (10 pts.)

3 11th Grade Requirement - (Occupation Research) Total Pt. Value = 60 pts. For this phase of the project, take notes on each of the following criteria for a possible future occupation of your choice. (A career that is of great interest to you.) If you need help finding a career for research, try this: A) Go to and complete the survey. B) When finished with the survey, read through the job possibilities given to you and pick one of the listed careers to research. Once you have selected a career, create one PowerPoint slide for each of the following: (NOTE: Each slide must include both text and a picture/clip-art.) A. PERSONAL CAREER EXPLORATION (30 Pts. For This Segment) 1) Name of your career/occupation accompanied by a picture (This is your INTRO slide.) Part II: Political Parties (10 points) Compare their political party system with our system using the following criteria: o Does this country have a two party system, a one-party system, or a multiparty system? o What are the names, key beliefs, and symbols of the major political parties in this county? Part III: Elections and Voting (5 points) Compare this country s election system with our election system based on the following criteria: o What is the voting age and what are the qualifications to vote in this country? o How often are elections held in this country? o What types of elections are held (primaries, general, etc?)
