2 Your project: You must choose at least five of these tasks to complete over the next four weeks. Aim to complete at least one task each week. EXTENSION: If you are good at English, you should choose the more challenging tasks which involve more detailed writing. You will hand in your complete booklet of work to be marked by your teacher in the last week of term. Fully completed and well kept booklets will be rewarded with a certificate of Olympic achievement. Task list Tick the box when you have completed a task. There are eight to choose from: Research the history of the Ancient Greek Olympic games and create a PowerPoint presentation which you could use to teach other year 7s. Write a short biography of a modern Olympic hero s life and how they became a successful athlete. Write a letter to an Olympic medal winner, persuading them to come and speak to the year 7s at your school. Imagine you are interviewing someone who has just won an Olympic medal. Write down the ten questions would you ask them and explain why you would want to know the answers to these particular questions. Design your own logo for the London 2012 Olympics. Include labels and a commentary explaining why you designed the logo in this way, including the significance of colour choices and the symbolism of any images. Write a series of three diary entries of someone who is competing in the Olympic Games. Imagine how you would be feeling and what you would be thinking at each stage. Write an argument discussing this statement: Athletes who are found to have taken performance enhancing drugs should be banned from competing for the rest of their lives. Write a poem about the Olympics. Try and use some of the seven Olympic values in your poem: friendship, respect, excellence, inspiration, determination, equality, courage.

Were women allowed to take part? What kind of sports or events did they do? Who were the most famous athletes? What prizes did people win? What happened to people caught cheating? How were the Ancient Greek Olympic Games different to the modern Olympic Games? Remember to use language which is appropriate for teaching year 7s and use some images to interest the audience.
